This mod doesn't have "preheat" as you can't set a duration.

You set the temp and max watt and it goes.

Does it matter, absolutely not but let's not mis represent it either. Hell for 50-60 bucks who cares :)

I don't know any TC mods that have a preheat duration? Most have the soft/normal/hard setting which is basically setting the watts to an amount which will heat up the coils quickly or slowly then kick in with TC when the desired temperature is reached.

This is the exact same thing but it holds your hand less.

DNA200 mods have 3 different settings for preheat in TC
1. Preheat power (up to 200 watts)
2. Preheat punch (from soft to hard)
3. Preheat time limit

So we're judging a $40 mod against an $80 chip?

Seems like a sensible comparison...

Why don't we now compare a Ford Focus to a Bugatti Veyron.

No, not at all, I was responding to your original post where you said "I don't know any TC mods that have a preheat duration?". I was just trying to supply some information for you. I think RX200 a great mod, I dare say it's probably the best bang for the buck going. I was not trying to be argumentative at all.

Cheers,
Steve

Ok the only other tc device I have is an ipv3li, and they do work differently. I have a dual coil 30g ni coil at .1 in my crius. Currently the rx is set to 60w and 540f. When I take a draw I seem to get less of a pulse and more of a pause. Temp protect will pop on the display during the pause which on a decent draw is noticeable. Is it just me or am I just being too sensitive. Generally I love my rx but for some reason this pause bugs me.
Anyone else experienced this?
For those not familiar the 3li uses joules and seems the pulse doesn't pause like this.

No pause on mine. Did you do the update?

Yes 1.07 first thing. Guess it's no big deal just not used to it. I'll play with the settings to see if I can ease it. I'm thinking if I lower the wattage it will take longer to reach temp and I will experience it less.

OK I think it's a false alarm. It looks to be a Flux in my build, that's what I get for trying to rewick spaced 30g ni. Went to my other tank with same build and it is better. I think I will be good once I rebuild. Thanks for the reply deucesjack.

I don't know what causes pauses (no pun intended) but the pause on my X-Cube 2 is one of the reasons I want to try some other mods out. It does weigh a ton as well and the novelty of the trigger wears thin. After 33 days my VTC mini has finally entered the UK so I'll get a feel for the nuances of the Joyetech chip before the RX arrives.

Sorry for jumping on the defensive, I'm probably tired is all :)

The same thing happens to me on my DNA40s, DNA200s and Snow Wolf when the temperature setting and power level setting are not well matched.

Try lowering the wattage to more closely match where the temp control is delivering its mean-wattage.

I find that limiting the wattage setting to only about 2 to 5 watts of "headroom" above where the TC is averaging (in watts), gives the smoothest vape with no peaks and valleys.

That's one thing I love about the DNA200, you can custom configure the screen to display "Last Power" (mean-wattage), and see that a temperature protected vape would be hitting, at, say, 22.5 mean-watts (average wattage over the duration of the puff).

Knowing this, you can then set the wattage limit to around 25 watts (in this example) and it will eliminate the gaps / pauses that happen when it would otherwise get too hot, too fast, then cut out for a bit, ramp up again, get too hot, cut out, etc.

It happens even more aggressively and noticeably with higher wattage devices, because they ramp up faster and have less battery sag.

Isn't the watts adjustment the preheat in a non DNA device? It should fire at X watts until temp is reached. Theoretically the higher the watts the quicker your coil will heat.

I guess the watts are also a rev-limiter of sorts as it should not go above X watts during your normal vape routine.
This is essentially correct

For those interested, i just temp probed this mod in Ti mode.....and its as dead on as any ive used....set to 260 degrees celsius, my readings bounced between 259-261.....thats a smaller variance then i have ever measured on a tc device!
