I have to disagree to a point. For small business vendors I do understand taking the picture ID route, the age verification software is probably expensive. The larger distributors have no excuses; we have been supporting them for years and they need to pony up for the software that is available. My name-address-age is more than enough info to assure them of my viability as a legal customer with the software available to them.

I ordered from direct vapor. Have ordered from them in the past. My order was placed last week. Received an email today telling me to send in a copy of my license.

I am mildly irritated. I read about someone else on the forum worrying about having an issue but that person was an over 21 young adult. I am more than twice that.

I responded to their email letting them know that I have ordered from them before and that I do not have the time for this crap and to cancel my order and refund me and that I am done with them.

I also let them know that should appropriately age verify BEFORE the order is accepted.

Not a huge deal ---there are many other companies out there.

What is irritating is that I have ordered from them before and I am the Internet Queen.

Whatever!

Don't feel like you are the Only One.

I recently got the Urge to try some "Ultra-Pure" Nicotine to see if it taste any better than what I have. So I went to my Go-To Nicotine Vendor who I have purchased Nicotine (and Flavorings/Etc.) from Many Times and ordered a 250ml Bottle.

They came back and said that my CC Failed their ID Check. And I needed to send them a Picture of my DL.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

When I talked to them on the Phone to see if I could get things Straightened Out, I was told that it could be that there might Not be enough purchases on the CC I used. Like a Newly Issued CC.

I asked the CSR how old she was? She said that she was 35. I told here that my AMEX Card was 5 Years Older than she was. And it has had the Same Billing Address, the address the Nicotine was to be shipped, for the Entire Life of the Card.

LOL.

So, you're older than you appear on the internet? NICE. LOL.

Yes, age verification sucks, we've all been there.

I was buying some "age type thing," (could've been juice, actually) and the clerk asked for my ID and I was like, 'Do I not appear older than 21."
He answered, "Yes, m'aam in fact you DO. I am asking for your ID to verify the name on the credit card."

LOL, I have never asked that question again. Ever. Never been carded online either but I doubt I would have a TON of concern. I mean, lots of stuff, I've proffered my SS number (partial or whole) or my DL with NO ISSUES whatsoever, although it is more of a pain with online I'd bet, but I have a scan of my DL that I keep at the ready at all times, and I block out most info unless it's "required" but this is also the age we live in and etc. Etc.

I don't buy from vendors that wants a photo ID (two decades ago I did and my identity was stolen and I'm still dealing with that one). How many people with a credit card is actually under 18 anyway?

VERY INTERESTING...in that I just last week...had the same thing happen to me...at the same vendor...DIRECTVAPOR...

Filled my cart => Age Verification passed me on => placed order => THEN got an email saying they would NOT send order unless I...1.) would send copy of photo ID or 2.) give them the last 4 of my SSN...

I emailed back that I've been ME for 70+ years...have lived at this address for 30+ years...felt uncomfortable with their 2 options...and canceled my order...

An informative thread on Age Verification:

A List from that thread:

Did they charge your CC, before they sent the e-mail?

I can understand merchants needing to verify age, but I'd be very uncomfortable providing the information they're asking for. Fortunately for me, Canadian regulations are a bit different. Canada Post will verify age on delivery, so online shops generally use the postal system for any needed age checks. The postie just looks at my ID and doesn't record anything. It's also prohibited to even request someone's SIN (our version of the SSN) if you don't need it for tax reporting. American companies periodically get into trouble here by trying to use SINs for employee IDs or account identifiers.
