Warning...long-winded newbie tech question here - if you're tired of "what should I buy?" posts, I won't be upset if you scroll down :)

Bit of a hijack here (is there such a thing in this thread? If so, I haven't seen it), soooo much information overload from searching and reading, but I think I might know which way I should go.

Since I picked up my Protank II, I was hoping that I'd be good with my EVOD VV batteries, but it's just so top-heavy. Looks fine to me (kinda like a magic wand :D), but I wish it could stand on it's own. See my previous pic, I have my PV standing up in an old Boy Scout neckerchief slide

I'm thinking I'll have to go mod, but I don't want to have to deal with "battery and charger sold separately", buy this, buy that, yadda yadda yadda. The B&M talked me into VV for my starter kit, and I'm very glad he did that. I've definitely noticed a taste and vape difference with the different juices I've gotten on different voltages. I think I want to play with VW.

I don't want to build my own mod, and I don't want to shell out a bunch of cash (read: no Provari...I know they're great, just too spendy and I'm afraid they're also the "charger and battery sold separately").

I was hoping to stay away from box mods, but it looks like that might be the only way I can get an all-in-one solution. I want to stay local too. B&Ms are very important to me both from a local support standpoint as well as instant gratification. Even if that means I spend a few more $$. No online purchases for this, I need to stay local.

I loved the iTaste SVD. Telescoping, VV, VW, looked good...until I ran into the tagline I hate...requires battery and charger...grrrr :(

I saw the ZMax. Looked nice, VV, VW...requires battery and charger :(

Then I found the iTatste MVP. Everything I need is in the box! Batteries are built in! No goofy charger to find a plug for! Yay! It even has a tank to try out! Cool!

Have I just talked myself into a box mod? Am I missing something that tells me I could actually use the 510 charger that came with my EVOD kit (and the spare I have at work) for a cylindrical mod with 510 connection? I just want something that will hold a fair amount of juice, stand up on its own, and not put me in the doghouse for the rest of the winter?

I was about ready to mention the MVP, and then you did. I love, love, LOVE my iTaste VV V3 and except for the design and battery life, they are identical. I think that is likely your best bet, because the VW feature is really awesome, and if you should ever get interested in rebuilding (never say never!), you have a built-in ohm reader.

I don't know of any round, mod-sized device with a built-in battery. The "fatty" ego's might work better, but they're still not big enough to counter-act the weight of the PT.

I have a larger spinner battery that seems to hold its own with the PT on it, but you would need at least 1000 mAh for the right size, and at that point you might as well get the MVP.

Thanks so much for the feedback Alisa - I know how these amateur questions can come up from my experience on the 4x4 forums, and I knew I was asking one of them...lol!

Charge longevity is another thing that is on the "would be nice" list, but since I have a 510 charger at home and one at work, if I found a mod-sized device that could stand up to a large-ish tank/clearo, I could sacrifice some time for charging. I'd still have my EVOD VV batteries, and I'll probably never get rid of my EVOD clearomizers. They're just so portable, and they fit my flavor ADD so well :)

My offer is good and bad from what you want. its VW/VV (can even custom program for different power levels during a draw... start high to heat the coil, drop power once its hot, raise a little to give warmer vape at the end..?) and can be charged by a cable you already have in your home (unless you only own apple products.. but who does that?!) by micro USB cable (most phones sold today use it to charge, most new portable hard drives, some bluetooth headsets use it to recharge ect.) and looks nice with a protank on the top of it. its cylindrical, can stand up with the protank on it (but may fall over if bumped, still working on a rubber stand for it, could easily make one if i was really worried about it and my roll of duct tape ever runs out [use the roll of duct tape as a little cup to keep it in.. if it falls it gets caught in the roll and doesnt actally fall over])

The Evic.

the bad, it takes a seperate battery, but the kit comes with 1 battery, a samsung 2400 (2600? cant remember, its around 2500mah). the price now may be around $100, i got mine on sale last june for $65. if you do buy one inquire if it is V2 (with the screws in the head) or not. V1 had the 510 connector pressed/glued in and came out if it fell. my V2 has falled from my chest hight (im 6'2) in a few outdoor bar smoking patios and is just fine. only thing it did was bounce the battery on the spring and turn the unit off).

default battery lasts me 2-3 days depending on how much i use it. if im chain vaping it will last just shy of 2 days. you can buy larger batteries (i ahve some 3600 mah batteries) you dont need protected batteries since the Evic is a regulated device, and if you are using a higher power you may trip the battery (unless my understanding is wrong).

tldr; Evic. Vw and cylindrical, about the thickness of a childs learning marker (ask me how i know, go ahead! lol.) or fat cheap sharpie. requires a 18650 battery. can be charged by micro usb cable while still using it (dont let the battery fall too much or you will need to let it get a charge before you can use it, as it doesnt passthrough straight from the cord but the battery).

the control head is aslo replaveable, so should it stop working you could buy another head to replace it.

Well, technology is moving so fast in the ecig world, I think almost anyone can still feel like a noob. And I'm a slow-advancing non-newb. :D Having just entered my dripping and soon-to-be rebuilding phase, I can tell you that I will be reading up quite a bit as I feel a little green myself.

I have 4 evods, a protank 2, and a Smoktech Aro, and I don't think I will ever stop using them, they're that easy and taste great. A few days ago I decided to replace my flavor wick with cotton just to see what it was like. I will be doing that to all of them, and maybe replacing the actual wicks with cotton at some point.

As far as battery life, if you get the MVP you won't need to worry at all about it. It has like 2600 mAh, and it can charge your phone too. If you can get over the box shape I think it would be a very good choice. You can put your ProTank on it just fine and it will sit flush to the box (no beauty ring required).

The only mods I know of that are self-contained and have VW are the MVP 2 and the iTaste VV. They both have built in batteries and are both VV/VW. The MVP 2 has a long-lasting battery of about 2600 mah to last a long time, but it's a box. The iTaste VV has only about an 800 mah battery so you'd probably need 2 of them to last all day. I think they both charge using the micro USB that cell phones use and can be used as passthroughs while charging.

If you plan to use a ProTank, I'd go with the MVP 2 because you'd have the same problem you're having now with the iTaste VV. It would be very top heavy. That is the only reason I haven't gotten one of them myself, since I only use ProTanks. The only drawback of having a non-replaceable battery is when the battery goes, the mod becomes useless. Good luck making your choice. :)

I took a look, and the B&M (Vaporleaf if I'm allowed mention the name - slap me if I shouldn't please :D) has the MVP and the eVic. About a $40 difference between the two, and they have a running 10% discount. I think I'll have to pay them a visit tomorrow to handle and maybe test drive both of them! The eVic, although it requires a battery, actually comes with it in the box. That doesn't fit the "batteries not included" that I mentioned hating. Micro-USB for charging is perfect too...especially since it's pass-thru. I can stealth-vape with the EVOD in the office and slap on the Protank when I step outside.

Thanks! The iTaste VV came up in one or more searches, and it looks good, but it doesn't look like the B&Ms nearby stock them. Also, you're right. It looks like it's a VV/VW square version of what I have. Top-heavy :(

I'm thinking it's going to be an aesthetic and possibly financial battle between the MVP and the eVic.

You may still need a charger and another battery to use while the first one is charging if you plan on using it when you're out and about.

I think having my eGo/510 (EVOD VV) batteries would probably help with that, both would be charged up, of course. Pass-thru would help a bunch when I'm wheeling as the head unit in my Jeep has USB. I can have the power inverter with me too when I'm on the trail.

I don't see running out of power being possible. I'd never put all my eggs in one basket :)

THe only other MOd that can be charged via a USB is the EVIC, it works but I caution that it is very delicate or used to be. I had two that the head broke off after falling once or twice.

I am a huge fan of Innokin products and if I had money I would buy them over and over again. from the new little fixed voltage EP to the VTR (too heavy for me) they are beautiful. Well made, and affordable.

I have Itaste VV V3, and the SVD, my nephew has the MVP, all well used here and I would buy again, I might eventually get an MVP it has a nice vape, you can use it a whole day or more depending on your vaping style. VV VW and ohms reader. the USB charge is convenient for a car trip. Or travel in general.

If you ever do go with battery and charger cylindrical mod, I would go with SVD or Provari depending on budget.

EDIT: I think DNA 20 mods are boxed shape and have built in batteries, since they were hard to come by, I never did research and now that they are more common, there is a new chip out to replace the DNA 20, also, they are almost as expensive as a Provari. I'm told they perform as well.

Thanks for all the good wta info. I have a small bottle of ry4 in my cart. That's some expensive liquid. I'm going to sleep on it and see if I really need to try it. I'm doing ok right now with non-wta juice, so why throw a wrench in the works. IDK I'll probably end up getting it because I have to try almost everything I see.

I always feel weird on a vaping forum when I see everyone talking about devices that are not cigalikes. Weird cause I feel like I'm the only long term vaper that doesn't have one yet. Though less weird when I feel firm in my decision to not upgrade anytime soon. Admittedly, if finances weren't a question, I'd probably get 2 to 5 of the best models around and experiment with them.

What I think makes me even a little more weird is, I may never have to buy another battery (cigalike) again or being realistic, probably won't buy another one in all of 2014, as my current arsenal of 7 batts (plus a pass thru) all have lifetime warranties. Also weird that I was able to cut way back on smoking with these types of devices. Seems like many vapers here on ECF would say something along lines of "if I had to stick to a cigalike, there's no way I could quit smoking."

Now, I just think about buying clearos and flavors and even that is on the low end. 10, one ml clearos are looking to last me about 2 months. And last order of 10 was first time I ever ordered that many at once. For juice, I usually get 50 to 100 ml, and it somehow lasts me 3 months on average. For sure 2 months at least. Though I guess I do usually get about 15 pre-fills in that time frame which helps make my juice last longer.

I'm kinda thinking all that makes me enviable but also thinking (often) I come across like Dorothy in Oz. All the participants on this thread would be all the cool people in Oz and not the haughty, fake, people in Emerald City. Oh, and don't even ask me who I think would be the flying monkeys and wicked witch faction.

Hey, if cigalikes work for you, millions of bonus points your way and don't think twice and don't feel weird. Count your lucky stars. I truly am glad they work for someone and I'm not saying that sarcastically. I wished they worked for me.

I think it's great that you use cig-alikes successfully and don't feel the need to upgrade to a mod. I relied on my eRoll to help me stop smoking at work. It puts out almost as much vapor as my Zmax and is very satisfying as a cig replacement. If my Zmax was out of commission I'm sure I could continue being smoke free using only my eRoll.

I started with a cigalike (eRoll) and used it exclusively for 2 months. Was happy as pie with it. Didn't smoke or want to for a month. I did smoke on occasion after that first month, but that was due to physical problems I was having that vaping was exacerbating and not because it was a cigalike.

But eventually I did get bored, and having something a little more powerful and that could take more juice (I was beginning to use much more) helped me "get back into the groove".

Sometimes I go back to my little ecig, and it's still impressive to me. If it weren't for the constant charging (although with a PCC and an extra battery it's not THAT bad) and filling the tank, I would use it much more often.

I know of quite a few big mod owners who ended up getting one and now it's the only thing they use (see the eRoll subforum).

Thank you for providing that explanation. I use a 510 atty and evods only, 2.2ohms. I am on an interest list for a Russian 91%. How do you know if you want a regular 5 wrap(ish) coil or a micro coil? What is the difference? I know I do not want sub ohm. This will be for on my Provari Mini. Or MVP2 or spinner.

You know I'v vaped on RBAs for a year now, I vape 12mg with single wick set ups and 6mg with dual coil set ups....from reading this thread I may need to up my nic level. some attys like the Kayfun even the manufacturer recomends cutting your nic levels, but most people I know into RBAs don't usually vape high nic levels. You find out pretty quick what levels work.alot of the time you may have to cut nic levels in RBAs is not because of the attys, but because of the kind of coils you wrap. there are alot of people who like to vape sub-ohm on them like say 1 or.8 ohm coils....then there are people who like to vape SUB-ohm coils like .4 or .2 vaping at those levels really forces you to cut your nic levels way down.
