Claudia, that is the perfect solution. Keep my mouth shut and let it all go to h#ll. Problem is that I have been working on that particular character flaw most of my life and just can not seem to be successful at it. I have a real hard time standing by and watching someone do something that is going to cause more damage. I just spent 20 minutes explaining to DH and the contractor how working with an
insurance company works. We have to wait for the estimate/check to come in to know whether we try to save the buckled hardwood or replace it, same with the island and dishwasher. This decision affects the order of other work being done on the job. Why am I having to explain this to a CONTRACTOR who has built houses and been doing remodeling for 30 years. Duh. Am I the only person who can think beyond point and shoot? I really do not get it.
I also AGAIN explained to the contractor why we need his estimate in writing. The money will not be released in full until his paperwork is given to the ins co. We no get dollars; you no get dollars. Period. End of story. Contractor is still not getting it. I think he is playing a game to see if he can get DH to tell him how much $ ins is giving us and he will make bill match it. I want his $ estimate up front. So far DH is siding with contractor/friend. At least we are no longer yelling at each other.
They did the Killz type stuff in kitchen. OMG, the smell is unbelievable. DH says we can live in bedroom tonight. There is going to be no cake in this house for a while.
