After smoking for over 40 years and failing at every other method of quitting, I decided to give vaping a shot. I budgeted 2 week's smoking costs for a reasonable setup to try it and it worked after day 1. From there, I forgot all about the cost. Number 1 objective was to make this work whatever the cost. I didn't go crazy, but if I saw something that would make it easier or possibly better, so be it no matter the cost (within reason). I got multiple larger tanks for less frequent fillings and ease of changing flavors. I went for longer lasting batteries so I wasn't continually charging some. There was a cost, but by golly, it was working!

Then somebody started a thread about it being more expensive then smoking. So I went back and did some quick addition and found that I was still a bit short of what I would have spent for smokes. Then I figured out how to add a ticker to my signature and started using that as my vaping budget. As long as I was staying within sight of what it said I saved, I was fine with that. That allowed me to continue trying some new gear and searching for at least 6 flavors I really liked.

And now, at the end of 9 months, I have the gear I should be good with and at least 6 really good juices as well as a number of so-so juices I can slowly get through. I am at or below what I would have spent on smokes and most important, I am smoke free for those 9 months and that was my one and only original goal. I've got absolutely nothing to feel bad about and feel great........what more could I ask for?

The success stories really inspire me. I tried to smoke a cigarette earlier, I felt like I really wanted it, but it tasted so disgusting I couldn't smoke it. I came back to my vape. This is only my 4th day since the last time I smoked. Oh, yes, I've spent a lot but except for a few more tanks I'm fixed for gear and only expect to be spending for coils and juice until my mods batteries die.

This is a great idea!

According to my signature, I am so far in the hole right now... But the good news is I am finally finding what works for me as far as my set up and tanks, so I anticipate spending much less going forward.

This is a good sign, Puff! That's exactly what happened to me. Congrats on 4 days and keep up the good work! :thumb:

Thanks! I'm feeling sometimes like I'm just not getting the nicotine hit and I feel desperate to smoke but it's so revolting. I'll just keep remembering that awful taste next time. Hopefully I won't want to again.

hubba hubba,. I could find a million excuses for spending 3.6k this first year since quitting a 40 year habit, but it has been the first successful quitting attempt in 20 years and has been a year now already, which flew by thanks to hobby, ecf, shiny, juice, diy, etc etc and all the other distractions!! I think it is time to just live and enjoy what has be achieved. You can always make more money but once lost, you'll never get back your health.

I've moved on to vaping for healthy and budget reasons. My initial investment is more than what it would cost for analogues/month...moving from ego sticks to mods, getting various tanks/drippers and testing out juices. However, as I'm now reaching 2 months of vaping, I'm beginning to see my ROI by moving to rebuilding and doing a wee bit of DIY juices. So I guess i'm still too early in the vaping but I forsee that I'll eventually save more than analogues....provided I stop buying tanks and mods :p

Try keeping a small tank filled with a higher nicotine level of a flavor you like. For me it was 24mg. When you have the urge to smoke, vape that higher nic tank for about 10 minutes or so. It should help you to overcome those cravings. As time goes on you will find the cravings get fewer and farther apart. Emotional stuff is a big trigger. I also find every once in a while I will feel like having a cigarette if I see someone in a movie smoking. Being around smokers in no longer a problem. Strange.

I started vaping 7 weeks ago and have had no desire to smoke but have been vexed by the lack of satisfaction with low or no nicotine 'throat hits'. I would like to be nicotine free but still enjoy the sensation smoking gave me. I have also spent an alarming amount of money in less than 2 months but am happy with what I have now. No regrets.

I can only say what others have about the costs. I have some RTA's and protanks with some isticks and 1 iPV35w. But, I have been smoke free for over 2 years. And NOT spent $4,240 on cigs, but I have spent about $1,400 on gear and juice. Some companies will sell you 125mg or larger bottles of juice that is premixed, that saved me lots of money and now I make my own juice for about 11 CENTS a mg!!!! But, I do want some new shiny gear every now and then. So, I wait for it to get in the classifieds and mostly buy used gear or join co-ops for savings in gear. Good luck! It does get better!

It can, but so you REALLY need that new tank or mod or juice? Of course you don't, you can get by on a ego twist and far as juice with a lil research 120ml for 30$ 500ml for 90$. That's a lot of juice that will last a long long time. I imagine, you could , with a ego get by 3x500ml per year maybe less. So $270 a year IF your being frugal and trying to keep cost to a minimum. If course as with anything you'll have WANTS. Those wants are what gets the cost up.

Its very simple really.
Buy some quality gear THE FIRST TIME

I myself made the age ol mistake of not doing enough research before I visited a B&M.... highway robbery! Then I said to myself "hey, I should get a new mod and RDA" so I go to the B&M, and end up paying... $100 =[, for a clone mech mod and a Mutation X v2 RDA. To make matters worse, it wasn't even great. because of my experience I ended up finally doing research. Since I have found a better B&M, only frequent for rebuilds since I do not have the proper know how YET, that has been really cool and helped me learn a lot, but more importantly I found this site and have learned so much! So much in fact, that I recently took to the interwebs and got a new setup, sans the RDA, that I am incredibly satisfied with, for a fraction of what I spent on my first mod which always left me wanting more.

tl;dr do research and spend the right amount of money of the right gear the first time and you can save A LOT of money.

I think I spent around $200-$300 for juice only per month.... And it's been 5 months into vaping.

When I smoke before, I spent $50 per month for around 40 packs of cigarettes...

So, definitely not saving any money at all...

You're definitely a candidate for DIY juice.

For about $130 you could buy enough stuff to mix over 2 gallons of juice. There's no way you could vape 2+ gallons in a month.

And where were you buying 40 packs of cigarettes for $50? Where I live there is a $1.41 per pack tax on cigarettes, and then a sales tax of roughly 46 cents is applied on top of that. The tax alone on 40 packs would be $74.80.

I wondered that too, then I saw that he's from Jakarta.
