The brain got to drifting after reading one of Eleanor's great posts, and I remembered my very first reaction to vaping: what an idiotic idea. I saw an ad for ecigs online in 2009 and shook my head and snorted with pity for the poor saps buying this crap. That was then.

Just wondering, what about you? Where'd you see it and what did you think? First time.

I saw an ad online, knew it was a scam, but wondered....so I googled and this was the third site I went to. I no idea what made me pay attention to this, I was in a bad place emotionally and looking for a diversion, I was hating cancer in a fierce way so I guess this filled 2 needs- diverting me and giving cancer the finger. I lurked, said wth and bought a 510 kit. It was enough to show me this could work, not enough to work, so I joined ecf and bought an ego....and so it began, lol!

Can't remember where the concept first showed up for me, but I remember looking around about it online around January last year, kind of a new year's resolution thing. Found loads of scam sites, obvious even to a simple country boy. Revisited the idea early April, after a very close family member's serious health issue.

Ordered first kit for him, tried it out so I could explain it better to him, like it so much I kept it until I could get his kit in. No cigs after first vape for either of us. 3 PAD until then.

A month later, I found ECF and the rest is histor--STOP ME FROM BUYING MORE mods!

I tried ecigs for the first time 3 1/2 years ago from an online ad. The brand name was NJOY--which I believe is now out of business. I had so much trouble getting my supplies that I returned the unit for a refund after a month--not to mention the technology level of ecigs at that time .

I didn't think of vaping as an idiotic idea, but rather as a novelty. It was cool taking it to the local watering hole and seeing reactions from patrons/employees--a great conversation point.

cheers,

Great thread jeffree!
I just love new gadgets and stuff, and being a avid smoker, I thought,' Cool, a way to get my nic fix at work'! Little did I realize what I was in for. Started with a cheapo ecig, but that was enuff after 2 days that I never lit up a cig again.
Fast forward over 2 years later. and I am a vaper4ever. Smoking was a choice I made, but vaping is a choice I embrace :vapor:

Years back, I remember only hearing about eCigs, and thinking that it was something akin to an Bio-Ray bracelet (original scam that spawned the Q-Ray and iRenew) for the mouth--just another idiotic novelty that would blow-over in a year.

Later-on, I saw some Internet ads for 306-based units, that were just too small and "cute" for me to take them seriously. As time passed, I heard of the liquid containing nicotine, and reasoned that, if this was, indeed, the case, they could be an effective alternative to aCigs. The problem, at that time, was that the prices on the products were too ridiculous for their advertised yield, in terms of substituting for real smokes.

I forgot about them until we ran across a 306 offering that was reasonably-priced, and the guy was making realistic claims about how much the cartridge yield, in terms of smoking time, and also offered niquid to re-fill the cartridges with. While I was still dubious about the effectiveness of the dainty little thing, the price put it in the category of something that wouldn't "break the bank" to try-out for a week; and, if it didn't prove satisfactory, it would be something that is cheap enough that we could throw it away without feeling the slightest bit of angst over it.

At this point, I'm engineering my own mods.

I was getting desperate to give up smoking without all the withdrawals I had when I gave up before. I'd gotten by that time by putting a drop of peppermint oil onto a rolly filter and sucking on it, saved my sanity, just. I figured someone must've come up with something by now. So, I googled "alternatives to cigarettes", and leafed through a few sites. When I came across the first ad for an e-cig, I couldn't believe it. I had to look at a few more. What I saw blew me away so much that I had to walk away from the computer and come back the next day for serious research.

I 1st heard about ecigs last October when a woman sat down next to me at a casino with one. We started talking and she told me about it. When I got home I started researching found the scams right off, found a company that was not a scam, but took a month to get my partially shipped kit. Didn't like the flavor of the cartos or the unreliability of the company but thought ecigs were great in theory. Did more research, found v4l, received my kit in 3 days and instantly went from 3pad to 1/2 pad. Finally decided it was one or the other. Chose the ecig and never looked back. Haven't had a cig in 10 months. That woman who sat next to me that night will never know how she changed my life

First time I heard about ecigs was on a commercial on the radio Jeffree sir, was completely skeptical. Sounded like a scam, so never even bothered looking them up. Then got to see them in action because of a mall kiosk, and why their product confirmed my suspicions in some ways, also could see the potential in them. When I got home that night started looking up all I could, and the obsession began.... :)

I knew about them from TV Ads. Back then the kits were like 200 dollars. No way was I going to spend that. I knew I wanted help quitting. Doctor prescribed Chantrix (sp?) but I had a friend using it and he was telling me about the side affects he was having so that didnt help. Tried the patch no good. Gum what a joke that was. Tried cold turkey lasted about a week. Then I did some research on the net and found ECF. Wow what a great find this was! After a lot of reading finally pulled the trigger on a Vapor King from V4L. After about a week of using these I was off the analogs for good. The hardest part was finding my nic level. Finally found that at 18mg using Wowboy. Have been using it since then. Next june will be 2 years for me. Till this day I never thought I would be off the analogs. After more than 35 years of smoking Im still amazed using an e cig helped me kick the habit for good!!! Thanks V4L for helping me stop smoking and thanks for a new addiction! LOL!!!!

I did not know they even existed until my sis in law sent me a link about them and there was a link to v4l .
I did not even see them in a mall ( thank god ) as that would have been a waste .
I researched them like crazy on the main forum and asked questions questions like crazy .I believe Morandir and Kezy and Keela were instrumental in answering my questions .I then figured out I would need manuals.
I was off the analogs for about 2.5 months when a family friend passed and fell off the wagon for awhile ( but never back to my pack a day habit and still kept the ecigs with me ).I have stopped on and off and occasionally and still give in to my craving .
Still better then pack a day ,sometimes go 4 days entirely without analogs and never have more then 2 a day but i am still trying .
I admire those who have never looked back .But after 35 years of smoking ,nothing has been able to get me this far .
Not the patch ,not the gum ,nada .I refused to take a drs reccomendation of Chantix .I had my gp say she didnt blame me at all for not wanting to take that .I dont think it would have worked for me either .This IS the only way for me .
Cold turkey was not an option with me as i would have been a mess within a day .I AM a nictotine addict and i admit it .
I am doing the best i can ,and with everyones help here ,my life is a heck of a lot better .

That I can actually recall clearly, my first experience with e-cigs. Was nearly a year and a half ago now or so. Wow been long time. But I was hanging out with my BF at the time and other friends, laughing at them watching wrestling. The friends husband had blu. I thought they were awesome, little black tube with a nifty blue light. If I had known 0mg existed back then I would have gone new toy/gadget crazy a long time ago.

Thanks to all for sharing your reactions. What variety! Reminder to self: keep these various reactions in mind when coming in contact with folks new to the idea--and plenty of those folks are out there. Some patience and tolerance on my part can't hurt.

Waylon, no one ever said vaping has to be 100%. Just dropping the cigs down in number is a cause to celebrate, IMO. Congrats.

Willpower is a very small part of quitting. There are so many factors to why,how ect people get started, biological psychological ect. Will expound on this tomorrow. My ride is here....

Expounding ... actually I lost my train of thought and y'all are already way ahead of this so I will just drop this train of thought

My first thought was AWESOME!!!!
I found them while looking up info on Hookah. I had tried everything to quit smoking but kept going back to it. Well, maybe not everything. I tried the gum, patches and cold turkey. I had decided that I would just switch to smoking my hookah, so while searching for tips I ran across the ecig and thought "It's like a handheld hookah that I could use everywhere without all the hassle and cleanup!!" So I went for it! Quit completely and then started smoking again. Round 2 is going pretty good though, it has been 7 months and 13 days :)

And Waylon, not everyone has that crazy willpower thing. I still can't bring myself to vape around my smoker friends (although I have once or twice). When I'm around them I bum cigs off the dh. So don't beat yourself up. I look at it like I'm allowing myself to have them, I'm no longer a slave to them, I have a choice. And then the next day when I'm craving because I smoked half a pack the night before, I reach for my ecig. You aren't alone :)
