After you remove the straw, how do you get the coil tight on the wick?

just pull the top coil tight , when you put on the middle post, that should do it :)

the inner diameter on the straw is less than 0.1 mm usually when the straw remove the wick a little bit loose, that should cover the 0,1mm, just to make sure, i tight it when i put the khantal on the higher post.

Middle of nowhere
Hi all
I been reading this thread for days now.
I have found a lot of good info and just started to REALLY mess around with rebuilables. I have a Zap and love it. I have had a few problems but all has worked out pretty good. I have rolled one 400 wick a little smaller(less mesh) than most have been useing but after I got the coils right it is working pretty darn good.
I have also rolled another wick and have not tested it to see if it will fit in the hole. Dose anybody know/remember what the hole size is for the ZAP with the insulator still in it?
Thanks BJ for starting this thread.
I have two pages to read and I'm caught up...................LOL

don't use that crappy insulator, your mesh will melt to it and you don't want to vape those toxic fumes if it starts to get hot!

URL worked for me.

I just did a 60mm wick of #500 in the Cobra. It is wicking like a champ!

When I first tried it, I could barely get 45mm to fit. Now that I have the method down I think I might be able get a 70-75mm wick in there.

I found pre-oxidizing without the water treatment made it a lot easier to get a tight roll. After I had it rolled I oxidized again with the water treatment.

Thanx BJ! :D

Might it help to tighten the roll with a dollar bill or similar like a cigarette machine does? Seems it would be easier on the fingers and maybe not take so long.

That is a fantastic idea! I'm definitely going to have to try that. I tried rolling it on a flat surface covered with a thin piece of cloth, and that seemed to work a bit, but the wick was picking up cotton fibers like crazy, and the shape of the hand rolling over it didn't really help keep it even.

I tried a similar method. I laid the wick on a wood bread board and rolled it with another smaller piece of smooth wood with lots of downward pressure. I learned the hard way to just roll in one direction rather than back and forth. The wick came unwound. I quite at that point but I think it would work if you just roll the wick in one direction.

Ok, so you'll laugh, but when I was in my muchhhhhhhh earlier days, the glorious but vacant '60s, I use to enjoy, shall we say, a questionable smoke. Anyway, part of my 60's kit was this piece of material used to roll the above questionable smoke. I have re-purposed this device, bought at some now defunct head shop, to roll and tighten my 500 mesh wicks. Seems to make my fingers less tired and tightens the wick rather well. Can't believe I found this in a tucked away box in the basement, but glad I did.

I finally got a tight wick... just shy of 50mm of 400 mesh into my Chid with only a pinhole opening in the center. I ended up using the top of an unfinished cypress table, pressing hard with my fingers & rolling one direction.

I swear I have one of those somewhere too, and today after the posts, set off to look for it. I have not seen that thing in years :)
