Unlike many of you, I'm not overly concerned about vapor production. I just want maximum flavor & nic absorption, since I have to stealth vape so many places.

p.s. Mev007 has a good point since I have to use egos (std & Twist) when at work. My ProVari is too much for them to wrap their heads around. :)

BJ when you do your coil tests, could you include some done on a puny ego device just to cover everyone's PV's ?

looking forward to more myth busting.

I don't have any ego devices, but will do 3.7v, 4v, 4.2v and up to 6v. I very seldom go over 5.5v myself and vape mostly 8 to 10 watts no matter the ohms.

I am interviewing young native girls with strong fingers....:toast:

Man BJ!, wick rolling, micro soldering, etc...you have a lot of young native girls in your employ...it must be tough being you ...I tried to hire Oksana, the 18 yr old blond, blue eyed Russian nanny a while ago...my wife would have none of it...sure my youngest is 18 and lives at university but safety first I always say...

sorry to ask noob question,
I just started a week a go, using the dud i'm happy with the performance, right now using # 500 about 7cm, roll it real tight, it's wicking best for satisfying my vaping pace.

I a bit confused, when i will replacing my mesh ? some people says around a month ? is the old mesh can be re-use if i oxidise it again ? or just flip it up side down ?

Yea it's a good question. I have been playing around with so many wicks that I never let them get old enough for the need to replace them. I was thinking the exact same thing today, that I will just use this current wick for a while and then turn it around. A quick torch wouldn't hurt to get any gunk off the wick before flipping it. I suppose the best way to determine it is that it simply needs replacing ( or flipping ) when the performance drops off, which could be any length of time depending on the user. Keen to hear other peoples opinions too.

Ok,my 32 & 30g Kanthal is still not here, but my last rejuvenated coil was looks very sad and flavor was lacking, so I pulled out the nichrome 28 I bought at the local electronics shop (was the only res wire they stock) and set about making a coil for my new 110mm #500 mesh wick, 10wraps, steady 1.5Ohms, wrapped the coil around a drill bit then inserted drill bit into DID tightened connectors slid in juiced up #500 wick, and Bob's you mother's brother, 8 watts on the ZMAX and a great vape. This is not my ideal set-up (still running on so who knows) but until my kanthal arrives IT WORKS

Just thought I'd mention my Kanthal still hasn't arrived :censored:
But my 10wrap Nichrome on 110mm #500 is still going strong, leveled out at around 1.6Ohms and will happily run at over 10watts indicated on the ZMAX,done a few dry burns, and a couple of toothbrush scrubs.
When/if my order of Kanthal arrives I'll be loathed to tear it apart, I have a clear tank for it and even that might not convince me

Well like I said,, wicking and capillary action always seems to have room for improvement :) You may end up liking a wicking system I have been working on for some time now,,, my final solid porous ceramic wicks are being made for me as we speak,,:) They loOk something like the picture but not exactly like it BJ there's a little something else being done to them.
Hi mwa, have you played with the ceramic wicks yet? :2cool:

I have wicks that have been used for months, just washed, scrub with a toothbrush, dry burn and good as new. If the coil goes, scrub the wick and wrap a new coil. I have never flipped one and imagine if for what ever reason it no longer wicks on top then the bottom flipped would be useless in the juice.
I have not had to reoxidize, just drip and burn on a new coil to ck that all wraps are heating.

I am a mesh convert. I have only been vaping for about a month. Really enjoy the vision novas (mini and regular). I read on the silica wick concerns, plus feel they give a bad taste at times if vaped to quick. So I tried the candle cotton wick. Worked really well, but feel the candle wick is to thick and still mutes flavor. Went so far as to use a needle to soften it up and pull out strands, worked better but still feel the flavor is off.

Yesterday I got in my Cobra rebuildable atomizer. Made a wick from 400 ss mesh (want to use 500 but gotta wait a bit to order some.) Took awhile to make a coil that didn't pop, until I learned I needed to oxidize the mesh more, now it is working great at about 2.2 ohms. It has a 5/6 wrap, I believe I used stock coil so I am not sure what the gauge is.

So today I thought, what the heck time to try in a mini nova. The first one took a lot of playing with to get the hot spots to go away, now it is working like a champ at 1.7 ohms, again used the stock coil that came with the Cobra so not sure the gauge. Now I just made a second wick from mesh, oxidized, used my 32 awg a-1 kanthal wire and got it running with 7 wraps in less then 15 minutes, got really lucky, and it is coming in at 2.2 ohms.

I really think the mesh right away gives a cleaner taste. It is far more giving when getting the coil to work properly without hot spots, I even trim the mesh more before putting the tank on to not scratch the tank and no issues, maybe a quick move coils again.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this thread, it was very helpful.

I do have one question if you are still reading, haha. I love the cobra but do not seem to get as much vapor as I think I would. I am using 60pg/40vg gandalf, with a 5/6 wrapped coil. (EDIT: Forgot to say I am using about 4 to 4.2 volts, will raise more but when I did last it seemed to give a little burned taste.) The stock coil looks about 32 gauge, though not sure. Any suggestions to have more vapor, any other information I can give which may help suggestions?

Thanks

update.

a couple of things I have learned in the last few days regarding these setups. BTW, BJ, some of what you have told me has FINALLY sunk in.

1st, I find that not quenching or burning juice on my setups has helped. I do the "jack frost" method and they work much better for me. I think when I do the juice burn, and am adjusting the coils, I am knocking off pieces of oxidation, which made it more difficult.

2nd, I am not sure the widest wicks possible are best for the flavor FOR ME. I went down from 100mm to 70mm and the flavor seems to be better. Also instead of rolling as tight as possible from the start, I just rolled it and then squeezed it down as I went. What I was left with after cuting the top off was a wick where there was a hole inside, but not from the bottom because as we know as you roll, the mesh squeezes out of the top and bottom. When I first saw the hole, I was annoyed, but think maybe it acts as a reservoir that actually holds juice in there. Because the bottom is closed shut from the mesh coming out, I do not pull air through like on the ones with the hole from top to bottom. This last one I made worked better from the start. Maybe I stumbled onto something?

the last setup is 70mm with a 30g 5 wrap that is measuring in at 1.2 currently.

of course YMMV. :)
