Hey guys so I have been reading this thread, it's incredibly informative and thank all that have contributed so much knowledge, information and time!
I got started in genesis style rbas about a month and a half ago and have enjoyed it very much. I currently have 4 genesis rbas aga, aga-t, aga-t+ and my newest an aga-s. So... there are days where I just cant get anything to work and days where they vape like a dream. I'm not sure this is cheating lol but I have been using the drill bit method for quite some time and find it much easier for me to build a wick and coil. My question is, no matter how tight I wrap my wick using 500 mesh, it does not wick the same as wicking it slightly smaller than the wick hole and leaving a small gap. But here is the problem with the smaller wick, when I do that it causes me to get gurgling from the atomizer, almost as if its flooding under the cap. When I wick smaller, I get that nice little inverted V that you can see through the glass, but when wicking really tight it doesn't seem to be going up the wick.

On all my AGAs I remove the fill hole screw and replace it with a small piece of ptfe tubing. This gives me a air hole to balance the vacuum in the tank and a handy fill hole. Have no problem with wicks being tight in the wick hole this way.

I've never left any of the screws in the fill holes in my agas. What does the ptfe tubing prevent?
Thanks for the quick reply

 but that's a little beyond the scope of my abilities :D

i'm off to google ptfe tubing

12 gauge ptfe tubing is what I used. I lucked out a year ago on an ebay sale for 5ft of 5 different small gauges and it sure has come in handy. Rebuilt all my Lines with it. 18 gauge is the ID and fits the silver posts on the line perfect.

OMG lol so I was rolling different sized wicks and trying them in my rbas lol didn't get to sleep till 4am lol. Was again one of those days where I just couldn't make 1 thing work. Finally gave up on the drill bit method and just stuck the wick in and coiled and BAM it worked!!! Then this morning my gf was saying she didn't think she really liked banana flavor, so I said hold on. Same thing as early this morning, stuck a wick in my aga wrapped the coil and again no hot legs, no big hot spots lol. I was to say the least HAPPY.
Always felt like I was cheating using the drill bit or rolling paper method.

Question - I have an AGA-T and have recently discovered the thick-wick wicking phenomena myself. But currently, and i don't know what to blame it on, I have crappy flavor and no TH to speak of. Whereas in an EGO with a clearo, the same liquid has what you would expect insofar as TH and flavor.
I'm using an AGA-T @ 1ohm with a thick coil, hollow and an open fill hole. Somewhere around 30.70 pg to vg ratio.

Any ideas? I'm really disenchanted with my genesis atm.

Update. After reading a lot more of this thread I made an extremely dense wick - 3 inches of mesh rolled on a desk - not hollow - hard as a rock. It was even difficult to cut with scissors. This is #400 mesh, btw.
It's wicking like a dream. I don't have to worry about doing the Genesis Tilt. It's been sitting on my desk for 10 mins, upright and will vape 100% if I pick it up right now. Flavor is a LOT better, so there's that.

Thanks, BJ, for spearheading this thread.

Lol. Very aptly put, monty. I'm actually nic-sick now.
uhggggg.

Glad you found your solution. This is a very information and innovation rich thread, just take a while to leaf through, but it's well worth it.
I saw your questions, and felt like it was a shame the answer is so long and I had so little time.
Popped back here to check on your progress though and so happy you're sorted ;)
