Here's my new phiniac. Obviously it's pyrex. The quality seems very high as expected and the caps/seals are top notch. Oh, the tank is clear, the juice is filled to the very top (thanks siam mod tank filler tool!)

Nice! I really like that alien design (simple and sharp), and Phiniac is a great tank, to be sure. I currently have the Guitar and Notes design and at some point I'll be getting the Kokopelli tank as well. I do wish they would add some music designs to their Phrosties collection, but I guess that will come if they sell enough of that line to make it worth while.

The OCD tanks do have a nice snug fit on the carto. Certainly won't be an issue of these accidently sliding off a carto like a Smoktech DCT tank (remember PBsuardo's video review?)
[...]
I used to use the Siam Mods punch tool from Phiniac, which is supposed to be one of the better punch tools. If I made the holes too large it would deform the carto more, or after awhile the sharp point dulled and still deformed the carto. Maybe there are better punch tools out there. I like the looks and design of the Clouds of Vapor punch tool, but it's $40 price tag and frequent unavailability has me grumbling. :p

I've bought and used two of the little carto punches, one the Siam Mods one, and recently a similar designed one from Copper Creek. I can say this newer one is way better but I don't know who they source it from. The hole in the middle is slightly off-center, unlike the Siam Mods one that's dead center. The screw is better quality, harder steel, and it's got a finer point. So your cartos won't dent so easily. What's really nice about it is it bottoms itself out at just about the exact depth to punch a perfect hole in a Boge 2.0. With the other one I had to eyeball it and frankly it's easy to go too far and have to chuck a carto.

Thanks, I've been frustrated with mine. I had Phiniac send me some replacement screws and it is working better since then, but still denting the carto somewhat.

Thanks for the heads up on the Copper Creek punch tool, I'll have to give it a look on their website. I need some more of their Coffee flavored juice anyway.

I decided to go with the lazer-drilled cartos that I can get at Smoktek. I've been using them for about 4 months now and am quite pleased. With the single coil XLs that I use, they offer both one and two holes. I use the single hole for normal 50/50 pg/vg mixes, and put anything with more than 60% vg in the two holes. No issues with any juice delivery except my Boba's, and I still self punch my cartos for that juice. The lazer-drilled holes give me a consistancy I couldn't get punching my own. And for $2 a carto, its not a bad deal.

Does anyone know if any of the pyrex tanks will fit a Kir Fanis Prive? I thought I saw some mentioned here but cant find it now
None that I know of. I just don't understand how the manufacturers of these high end tanks can use "surgical-grade" stainless steel or titanium all polished or brushed all nice and pretty and charge upwards of $60 or more, and then put a cheap polycarbonate plastic tube on them. I've made the comment before about the Prive that "a tank that purdy deserves to wear pyrex".

I don't get it either. According to Busardo on his review of it, he says using glass would have made it so thick which with the small diameter wouldn't allow it to hold much juice. Well based on the results of my mini Pro V with regular size Siam glass tube this may be true BUT... the Prive has a fill screw on top doesn't it? How hard can it be? I dunno... I say let the buyer decide. One thing for sure, that Prive tank is a real beauty imo.

cheers

I don't believe thickness has a lot to do with it. It's in the quality of the glass.

I don't normally talk negatively about different vendors, but I have had two pyrex tubes from one vendor shatter from falling two feet onto a hard surface. The glass used in these tanks is rather thick.

When compared to another vendor's glass tanks whose tubes are rather thin by comparison, which have also fallen the same distance, they have survived without nary a crack. It may be just a coincidence, but I have personally talked to the vendor that makes the slimmer glassed tanks, and he obviously "knows his glass" if you follow my drift. Not all pyrex glass is created equal. I don't believe properly treated pyrex made with the right materials needs to be thicker to be more durable or more shatterproof.
