What are wine finings Fatty?

You probably come accross lots of flavourings and additives if you're a home brewer. Is there such thing as liquid wine flavouring? If so is it free of junk or is it full of additives?

Finings in general are frequently made from fish bladders so don't contain a lot of chemical and yes, there are some interesting flavours I am considering trying. Scotch, rum, ....

Kate, I've come up with a mix that seems to work re nicotine, but can't get any taste from it. Do you use flavourings with your glycerine? If so, where do you get them in Brit? I added Vanilla extract from Sainsburys but can't taste it at all. Tried the extract on its own but still no taste or "bite" (loads of vapour though).

Apparently alcohol can cause vapour. So dripping flavours neat can still work without pg and vg.

I use vanilla essence at the moment Fatty, from here - Ndali Vanilla Extract - Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware. It can also be found at Ocado. Ocado: Fairtrade Nadali Vanilla Extract (Product Information) To be honest the flavour isn't strong even when dripped neat. It's smooth and subtle, no bite. I like it, it's a matter of personal taste I think.

I also bought quite a few flavours from the candy flavour section at Barry Farm in the States, their postage charges aren't too bad. Grocery Store Map of Barry Farm Foods I haven't tried them yet so I can't say how they'll do. Unfortunately Bickfords flavours from the US are very, very expensive to ship. They get top marks for not leaving crud behind when vapourised I've heard.

If you like chocolate flavour you can get Star Kay White's Pure Chocolate Extract from Ocado. Ocado: Star Kay White Chocolate Extract (Product Information) I tried this briefly, dripping neat on my atomiser. It was quite strong, a cocoa taste, not very sweet but the aftertaste lasted ages and lingered in my atomiser so I wouldn't recommend using it neat. I think it might be nice diluted in a mix.

I was at the dentist today and asked her about the benefits of xylitol in regard to sensitive teeth. She said that it was just a non-harmful sweetener and not an active ingredient for coating or protecting teeth.

It was gunging my atomisers anyway but at least I can say I gave it a go, been there, tried that, got the t-shirt. Back to the drawing board.

Does anyone know anything about tinctures or Bach Flower Remedies? Is there any mileage to be had from inhaling them? Just wondering about the theory, not necessarily intending to do it.

If you read the 'Flavouring with essential oils' thread linked above, please for goodness sake, don't try it yourself unless you've read the whole thread.

Pillbox got me thinking that it would be brilliant if we could get our nicotine buzz without high enough levels of nicotine to cause the related health problems. Is it possible to treat nicotine like a homoeopathic substance and reduce the dose but concentrate the desired effects? Any chemists, homoeopaths, technically minded people know? If we could have the fun of smoking without ANY of the health problems it would be another justification for eventual government approval.

Another thing Pillbox was saying is that he will look into finding a supply of flavourless nicotine eliquid. I'd like to find a juice that has only nicotine diluted with propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerine. I want to put in my own additives rather than have a juice composition with loads of stuff I can't even pronounce and don't particularly like the taste of.

My LorAnn candy flavours are doing well. I've tried four flavours. Coconut is not very strong, I won't be buying that flavour again (it smells lovely though). Pralines and cream is really delicious, yum, yum. I'm going to be buying gallons of that stuff.

I want to keep my e-liquid as clear as possible, but I want to use vanilla essence. I was wondering if you can get a clear vanilla essence, cuz the only one I have is dark brown.

On the note of healthy things to inhale, fish oil came to my mind. I wonder if that would work. Maybe I will try it in one of my brews. I have a bunch of fish oil sitting here.

If I do it I would only do like 1-2% of the mix, or so. The fish oil that I have though has actually been flavoured to taste like orange, which could be nice.

Yeah, I read up about using oils, but do you really think 1-2% could really cause problems with the atomizer?

Also is it alright if I use vanilla essence even though the one I have is a dark browny colour? Do I need to keep the mix clear?

I wouldn't vapourise vitamin E either, why bother when you can swallow it?

It's just a matter of whether what you put in your juice is useful for taste, vapour or harshness. I like to take minimum amounts of additives, although some additives with health benefits might one day appear. They'll have to be able to be absorbed through the lungs or mouth mucus membrane though.

Trying to use food vitamin supplements for inhaling is unnecessary in my view. They're not tested for that and probably don't do anything either. Just eat them ;)
