Well... he asked if my nicotine came from the tobacco plant and I really didn't know how to answer him.

It comes from the mailman.

You can buy nicotine which is extracted and purified from tobacco, or one that is synthetically manufactured. Just about everyone, including BP, go with the extracted purified stuff because it's way more cost effective.

If you took a caffeine pill or an energy drink with caffeine in it if you were tired, are you therefore a coffee drinker? That caffeine was extracted and purified from coffee beans.

The nicotine in our vape juice is a tobacco derivative, but so is the nicotine in pharmaceutical nicotine tablets and supplements used to quit smoking.

Nicotine also comes from nightshade plants like potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and certain other veggies used to make sauces.

It's not the nicotine that's dangerous to our health. It's the tars and over 100 other nasty chemicals found in cigarette smoke that aren't found in our vapor. It's possible to create some dangerous chemicals if you crank the atomizer heat up above 400F, but you'd turn up your nose at the acrid vape taste and stop immediately. Below that range the testing shows that the bad stuff isn't there. Dr Farsolino is to be given credit for the testing and evaluation of vaping temps.

The reason that people can vape at high wattage safely is that they use atomizers with large air ports that allow a free flow of cooling air to keep the vape below temps that can create diacetyl and other bad chemicals. That, and they inhale directly into the lungs at a high volume, unlike mouth to lung vapers that vape at low wattage. It's not the wattage, but the temperature of the coil and the vape that matters.

the mailman!! My husband would say tobacco, just for the fact I'm still relying on nicotine since it comes from the plant.
It's made me pause and think, because I haven't been asked the question before. I'm just happy I'm not smoking. (He is too )

I think the point he was trying to make was if my nicotine came from tobacco, then I was still shackled to tobacco.

I would honestly respond with "If I was wearing a patch to not smoke, am I still shackled to tobacco?".

Then again I have 3 exes, so relationship advice from me is probably not the most reliable for how to interact with a spouse.

We will be celebrating our 18th anniversary next month!
To the patch question he would say yes if the nicotine came from tobacco.
I guess if anyone besides hubby asks, I'll just say I'm smoke free.

Is your husband a fanatical non-smoker? Or still smoking, LOL? I would expect him to be one or the other, but if my husband ever told me I was "chained to the tobacco plant" I would simply look around and say "I don't see one attached to me."

Also, Who Cares if your nic comes from tobacco or tomacco? It's the same substance, and wherever it comes from it's much safer than smoking cigarettes, so as long as it's good quality nicotine, it really does not matter and if it's working for you, don't worry about it.

I'd be tempted to tell my husband that if he continued that line of questioning at me, I'd be stressed out and be feeling the need to be "husband free" for a bit, and take myself out for a nice cup of coffee. :) Fortunately, the husband does not ask such questions, he just begs me to keep vaping, LOL. He's noted my behavior as a smoker and a non-smoker and let me tell you, I am a *much nicer* person than I used to be... I had no idea how my constant craving for tobacco caused me irritability until I was stably vaping for a while.... It's magnificent, and my mom actually enjoys talking to me now.... I think :)

Lol my wife is the same way. She's just glad I don't smell like smoke anymore. Now I smell like delicious sour apple or watermelon lol.

Heh, I guess I have a ways to go to get even nicer, then. :) I think you have to decide for yourself, but I personally consider myself tobacco free because even if my nic is derived from tobacco, the effects of it are so vastly different that it's not the same thing. I think it's a lot cheaper to manufacture nicotine than grow it? So you are likely tobacco free in any case....

Well...Kind'a Maybe...I like the Mailman...Mine comes from a little white bottle in the fridge !!!...

"Nicotine is a nitrogen-containing chemical - an alkaloid, which is made by several types of plants, including the tobacco plant. Nicotine is also produced synthetically."
