Why are they always obese, tatted up grunge types?
LOL! I'm pushing 60, two grown kids, professional career, conservative middle class. I could care less about cloud chasing, or going to vape bars or meetups. I vape to get off cigarettes. Period. And without preaching to the choir here, it works.

Yet this is the image main stream media constantly portrays.

I hope I never read about any!
But give them time, my friend, just give them time :) Someone stupid will come along and find a way.

Yeah, Stupid is Hard to Prevent.

Just saying that the Potential Downside of putting a Li-Po into piece of Electronics can be Greatly Mitigated by Also including Protect Circuits. And by Using the Correct Charger for a Given Li-Po Battery.

Now using a Li-Po in a Mech Mod? No Way.

But a Li-Po in an istick? Or an MVP or an iTaste, with Built in Limits for Amp Draw and Over Charge Protect, I just not seeing a Problem based on Report of these Mods Exploding.

:)

True, there are only a few vape shops that I frequent anymore. In-store markups are ridiculous, I would support local business but I choose not to pay 400 and 500% markups. Most of the vape shops are carry junk and starter kits. Yay for starters to get people off smoking....
I do want to visit a shop up in your neck of the woods one of these days. I would really like to make it to SteamCigs in Lawrence at some point.

I like to go into shops to see what they have... mostly premium juice. I dont buy it very often (mostly I Vape DIY), but there are a few flavors I love that I continue to buy.
Vintage Vapor in pflugerville has been a good shop. Not a ton of advanced gear, but good helpful people and average prices for their gear (for a B&M). Maybe a bit high on price for some things, but not beyond reasonable IMO. The employees are nice and largely not cloud chasing, and the customers seem to range demographically too.

My point is that Lipo cells vent in a violent manor. IMR/INR cells do not.
So which would you rather have go off in your face?

Yes a Lipo can have more mAh & a higher c rating .......... but at what price to safety?
?????

At what point does the safety factor favor and or not favor your safe chemistry?

What happens when (like in those lipo venting videos) you force charge a limn cell to 12v?

What happens when the mod with the vent hole at the bottom encases an 18650 cell that vents at the top and seals itself inside the mod before the pressure can escape?

What temp does a limn cell burn at when it vents? I presume hot enough to do damage?

What has more explosive power built into it, a sealed mylar pouch or a sealed metal casing?

Why is it that Nimh cells are known to explode while lipos are known to vent? Metal casing...

We're coming to the point in the power race that like it or not, the ecig community better get their **** together and gain some knowledge on lipos. Because at the power levels some mods already put out there is no safer alternative in the form factor and size limitations. IMR and INR simply are not up to the task.

And people are going to buy them and test the limits whether we're prepared for it, like it... or not.

IMO safety comes as a complete package, and most of the time we are our worse enemy.

Remember the "proper venting" here on ecf??? That went over like lead balloons. Remember all the threads in the past about the dangers of stacking batteries???? Yet here we are again with stacking batteries.

So now we want to push the boundaries beyond what safe chemistry batteries are capable of ....... and blame the battery!!!!

You'd think by now with all these stories (who every vaper has heard of!) they'd be smarter by now but I guess chasing clouds is just more addicting :p

Not enough information to make any kind of judgement call. For a while last year it was all about the eGo type chargers exploding. More of a situation where people were under the assumption that if eGo type device fit the charger, it was ok to use.....Nah, not really...

You can cloud case while respecting the batteries continuous amp rating... maybe they arent the biggest clouds on the block... but I find a .2-.3ohm coil with 24ga satisfying.. using 30amp batteries (Authentic VTC5s from RTD - a few months old obviously).

The only person who gave an explanation was the vape shop owner who said it had to be user error.

    One of two things -
    1) could be he's being honest and thats the facts.
    2) "Not my products!" could be selling janky products (knowingly or unknowingly) and trying to keep people from associating his shops with exploding egos/mods/bad builds (still not enough info!!)

I Don't recall the Vaping Store Owner being on the Scene when the Accident Occurred. Or had any Knowledge of the APV, Settings, Coil Build or the Battery that was.

Please Correct me if I am Wrong.

So I just talked to some guy who answered the phone at Stage Stop Liquors there in Ramona...
He doesn't speak the best of English, so it was hard for me to carry on the conversation...

But he said that the clerk was using some equipment they do not sell, and that it was something he bought online.
He also said he could not give me any contact information for the owner of the store.

Please remember, I am NOT the one saying this.
This is just what I was told two minutes ago.

    1st point... very true

    Every point... embarassing.

Every person here has been around stacked, explosive, acid filled batteries our entire lives.

    Car batteries... stacked and explosive.
Everything battery powered in the 80s... stacked and explosive.
Every flashlight prior to the last few years. .. stacked and explosive... and used for bludgeoning. ETA... In the name of public safety
Lithium metal cased cells... explosive and stacked in a device we don't think twice about in nearly every home.

Lipos... get real hot and gassy, pop exactly like mylar balloons and flare up. Not much more potential danger than an ego...

I have a vtc4 I can spare. I might just see if I can't vent it for you like the lipo youtube sensations with a car battery... we'll see

There are tons of videos of people venting IMR batteries (18650/26650s) on youtube. Most seem to just vent "safely," some have exploded violently.

    Just Curious.

How Many reports of Exploding iSticks or MVP's or iTastes have you read about?

    None, yet....

Vintage Vapor is a great place, them in south Austin, Craving Vapor on Burnett and Vapor Logic on Congress are about the only shops I still go into. Maybe AAV once in a while but that place is always too crazy busy, I refuse to take a number and wait for an hour to talk to someone.
