My mechanical mod melted out the plastic housing around the switch because it has no protection circuit and the coil shorted out. My itaste clk, on the same shorted coil, the switch turned red when I pressed it.

Yeah, If your Mech mod had a Li-Po in it, that could have Been a Very Bad Day.

Li-Po's aren't for Every Application. Can they can Work Very Well and Can Be Considered "Safe" in Many Products.

The problem is most lipos blow up while charging. So a pass through puts a charging battery in your face.

To be fair, I doubt very highly that a 1 amp charge is going to pose even the slightest threat as long as the cell isn't getting over charged.

It's my understanding (and maybe I'm wrong?) That the MVP interrupts charging for a puff. Meaning not only is it not a true pass through, but also that only charging Or discharging will take place at any given time.

One would hope this would be the forthcoming trend with lipo mod makers... to err on the side of extreme caution... especially for charging sake.

Though, regardless, as a whole this community/site shunning lipo in general is already doing a disservice to the vaping community In general.

For example. This is one of the most informational threads on lipo information I've seen on this site to date. As an information source, even this thread is downright horrible. Riddled with misconceptions and fear mongering.

(To be fair, tj, I understand why you've made your personal choices... and I respect that. Though spreading death and dismemberment unwarranted throughout every mvp thread? Well...) [though I do respect that you have good intentions]

But here's where the problem lies...

The vicious ant vari-ant is just the beginning...

Ecig Market Most Powerful BOX MOD-Vicious ant Variant Newest Version 260...: http://youtu.be/f_TrA9NN-6Y

Now think... This kid doesn't just know not to burn his 10 watt capable coil @ 260 watts. Where's he going to figure out how to treat the lipo in that thing?

This trend will get bigger before it settles down. Last year 30 watts was "way too much" and "who needs more than 15 watts"?!?!?!?!

Think of what a year from now might produce...

Motorcycles, skateboards, pit bulls, and electronic cigs are a totally different game. Their users can be group-classified as reckless, risk-taking, eccentric outcast cultists who intend to wreak havoc and destruction upon innocent children. I think it's less about regulating the devices, and more about watchdogging the groups using them.[/QUOTE]

Who intend to wreak havoc and destruction? Really? No one else jumped on this? I have had wonderful, 14yr family companions that just happened to be pit bulls and I had no such intentions. I vape and have no plan to...why did I even respond? Never mind. Someone who posted what you did would miss my point completly. Best wishes.

Edit:The fist paragraph was not my post. I messed up the quote but it came from this thread yesterday, let me look for the source.

Lawn mowers are old news, like toasters, curling irons, microwaves, and scissors. Besides, it's no fun to pick on common things in such widespread use. If we did that, sooner or later we'd have to admit that all the controls and regulations in the world can't protect us from our own stupidity.

Please tell me this is sarcasm. If I missed it, then I'm sorry. The pit bull thing touched a nerve.

With the RC crowd at least, it seems like most of the charging problems came after the battery had received a good bump.
But, there really is a reason that Lipo charging bags even exist. (and why they are called LIPO charging bags)

    Yes

But I will add you're harping and preaching to the choire...

I've taught countless 13 and 14 yr Olds many a lipo lesson you won't find on this site at all.

And I charge mine at 30 amps after running into stuff at approx. 40 miles an hour and sometimes airborne.

    Here's one tutorial I wrote... http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174225

    OK.

Do you have that Link to Alibaba? I can't seem to find it using 14071601AP via Google.

    Thanks.

My plans are to replace the battery in my iStick with an AW or an Efest 2200mah IMR once it starts to go EOL. That should be a year or two from now if the battery is any good. Not knowing how robust the charging circuit is, I won't go any higher than 2200mah. By that time, it might not be worth the effort to recycle the iStick, anyway. Better, Cheaper, Faster may take over and render it obsolete.

JSYN - There is a Poll on the Ramona Sentinel site asking if e-Cigarettes should be Regulated?

Ramona's Community Paper Since 1886 | Ramona Sentinel

And right Now, the "Yes" people are Kicking the Snot out of the "No" People.

It is a Shame that 1 Mod Exploding could cause a Knee Jerk Reaction of Limiting or Restricting e-Cigarettes to people who want to Quit Smoking.

What would you expect? Wait until an innocent bystander gets hurt.
But this article says life-flighted and I think the original just said transported.
Here is the article from that paper.

First this goes to show the importance of battery safety and knowing your equipment.
Second, everyone always says the mod must have been modified or defective cause it didn't vent properly.this is the one that gets me the most, the batteries we use vent at the top, most mods vent at the bottom, when a battery get hot and starts venting it can swell up blocking the tube and rendering the bottom venting worthless! Mod makers don't take this into account when they design a device, for it to be truly safe from vent there has got to be some kind of vents at the top end of the tube as well as the bottom.

    What do I Expect?

I Expect a Uneducated Public to Vote No. And that Uneducated Public Outnumbers us here on the ECF by about 1,000 to 1.

I don't and they do. That's like saying gun owners get to regulate guns. I have a hard enough time with it. They don't know anything about them except that they can explode, because one did. Throw in the 2 smoldering in checked bags (though I only heard about the one at Logan), the kid in California the other day, the 3 failures reported here in one day.

Spend some time in the new members forum, and then imagine how many new vapers walk out of a B&M with a mech mod and don't ever come here.

If you look at that Fire Association list, 25 in 6 years is rare, but not as many users and not as many pushing the limits like they are now. But most were charging in cars, on laptops, and/or unattended. How long have we been warning about that?? People still post, "it'll last you all day and ya just charge it at night".
I put my sig there when the guy in FL blew his tongue off. Unprotected stacked batt warnings have been on here as long as we have. I got tired of trying to explain things.

Look at the house fire in Tacoma in November. There were 5 people home at 4pm.

If my cell phone or laptop catch my house on fire, Verizon or Sony are going to settle with me. Eleaf? Fasttech?
Wait till there are exceptions in homeowner's policies. Would you allow them if you owned an apartment building?
Sorry, but it's just a matter of time.
