That................ :)

When I'm paying attention, my Magma's do not leak.
When careless ALL my RDA's Leak

My magma doesn't leak when I'm actually using it, I'm careful not to tip it, but when I take off the top cap, suddenly there's juice everywhere. But I may have fixed my confusion about where to put that o-ring, so I'll try it out for a whle and see what happens next time I open it.

It's not a huge issue, here at home, but I wonder how it'll be if I take it out somewhere, in the vehicle.

I never did the Add an o-ring thing. (2) things I always do:
1) When wicking, I place 1 tail in the well on opposite ends from each wick. close to the opposite lose wick end. As I tuck the second wick end, I make sure the two together are in contact all the way up/out of the well.
2) I always Vape with the Air Openings to the Side, not up/down. This keeps the e-liquid from escaping under the coil.

Travel......LOL........ I usually fill mine........... then remember I need to change the battery. Tilt.......Spill......wipe.....fill:facepalm:

Look back to the Quartz crisis back in the late 70's to early 80's.
New technology brought you a cheap yet much more accurate wristwatch and everyone said the mechanicals would be obsolete and would die out.
They didn't!
Yes Quartz watches are cheap and very accurate but they are disposable and have no soul. Sure you can replace the batteries for a few years but once that circuit fries it's done.
Mechanical watches with maintenance will last forever and can be passed down for generations. They are not as accurate, hell my Marathon automatic gains around 5-10 seconds a day. Then again, if I need to know the exact time I have a cell phone.

No, you're probably not going to pass down your vape stick collection to your heirs but there will always be those who treasure craftsmanship over technology.

ETA I own 2 regulated mods. My old Provari that was my first purchase after the Ego kit and a VaporFlask.
Personally I can't stand box mods, they are big and uncomfortable to hold. The Flask at least is very comfortable but still weighs a friggin ton compared to my Titanium X's. There's no way in hell I'd trade the X off for some techno junk.

You like to read into......... reminds me of another...... never mind.

Actually yes, many do DIY - Visit the e-liquid/DIY sub-forums
They also understand more than wrapping a wire tightly around a drill bit. Little things like Resistance, Air Flow, Proper Coil Placement, correct wicking, etc.
Many Mechanical Mod owners are very well versed in how Vaping actually works.

Now, I'd almost bet every Mech owner you saw coming in for Coil builds Bought their Mechanical Mod on the Persuasion of a Sales person or the Recommendation of a trusted friend. If they cannot build a coil, they were duped on either account.

You did notice I did not say ALL mechanical owners, right?
Heck there are some Vapors I have seen that no matter what they try to use, they worry me.

Edit to add: What you may be missing from my lack of information in original post is that Mechanical mods seem to be a Natural progression for many Vapors. Often the Glitz of a fancy Vape Shop environment has long worn off and they remain unseen therefor uncounted.
I haven't set foot inside a B & M since December 2013. People love their Mech Mods; I doubt that will change. I wish my husband would get into since he still sneaks a smoke every now and then...

Yesterday while hanging out in my neighborhood B&M, I couldn't help but notice the overwhelming numbers of regulated box mods. The mech users were few and far between, and many who came in with mechs that had issues, left with a shiny new box mod.

Personally as a newer vaper, I don't see the point to using a mech mod when a regulated box mod is so much easier to find the "sweet spot" for a juice. Particularly if you are into switching juices often.

With a mech you have to experiment with new coil winds and resistance to find that sweet spot. With a regulated mod, just make a wattage/voltage adjustment.

Regulated mods are also so much safer than a mech mod - possible hand grenade in the hands of an inexperienced youthful vaper.

:2c: So, let the opinions fly: Are mechs on the way out of the vaping world? :2c:

I have noticed something similar, I think that all this is really doing is offering more variety to the market. Me personally I prefer a mech mod over a box mod. Reason being they have a better design, they are easy to maintain and maintenance is easy. Plus box mods are big and clunky, I can understand the desire for wanting a consistent vape every inhale but for me its really not that big of a deal. When I hear about people using 260 watt box mods to me that's just ridiculous. I prefer the styling behind a mech mod a lot and the feel in my hand. I don't own a box mod, maybe one day I will to see what the fuss is about. My girl has a box, not my cup of tea.

Right now there are Empire clones (the K100) that are priced so low you can buy them for next to nothing. A great little mod that performs very well. But they aren't "cool" right now so they are dirt cheap. Which I think is awesome. I have a couple of hundred dollars worth of authentic mech mods at home right now and here I sit at work. With my K100 :)

Havoc, do the latest K100's still have a floating 510 pin?

Ok, thx for this. After FINALLY getting my kayfun to wick properly when I first got it, by your "cotton nest" technique, I pay attention when you talk about wicking!!! :D :thumb: Though since, I really have gotten the hang of wicking a 7/64 coil perfectly, so I haven't used that nest technique in quite a while. :D I'll leave the next wick I make a bit longer, so the ends can overlap in the well.

After re-positioning that o-ring and using it for a while, and taking off the top cap a couple times to re-drip and check the wick, I didn't see nearly as much leak problem as previously, down around the AFC ring. Maybe just a smidge, but a smidge is easily wiped; I just hated when the whole dang ring was so "juicy" I had to rinse it off!

In another thread, Edyle said something about blocking the other airhole with aluminum foil, so there's less opportunity for juice to get down in the thing. I might give that a shot too.

Good luck on tweaking!

Wicks - Not longer - mine just touch/curl to the bottom. You want to side cross (X) or contact (Y) along the post outer side.
If you single Coil - this isn't going to be possible.(no second wick) In that case, longer wick and Fluff it up really good.
Think of a Carto - e-liquid soaks in, not sits on the wick.

Single coil application. Tight Twist a piece of cotton and twist it into the extra air hole.(plugged:)

I have also left the Nest behind, but it is a great simple setup for those starting out. :2cool:

Ok, this makes sense; when I peer down into the well to see if it needs more juice, the wick will be "plumped up" with juice, very saturated, but I don't see any just "standing" in the well, so I go ahead and add more till I see some liquid actually on the bottom of the well. I do use single-coil, only, always; it does sound easier to plug that 2nd hole with cotton, than with foil. :D

That nest of yours was the only way I could get my kayfun to wick, at first, but after changing over to rayon for a while, then back to cotton, I seem to have finally figured out the *right* amount of cotton for that size coil -- or even for a 3/32, which I use in my Igo-S -- just by the way it feels in my fingers. Just experience, I guess. But without that nest, I might have never known how terrific a Kayfun is. :thumb:

Interesting opinions. I just got done reading all 14 pages. I only own mech mods but I have thought of regulating one of them. Still on the fence. Getting a regulated mod is something I will do in the future just to see if it's for me. I would have already but having just moved and gotten a new job that's not in the cards at the moment. I'm totally open to suggestions about what to pick up to start though! Thx!

I'm pretty much in the same camp. I only have mechs (except for the Billet Box which is in between & I mainly bought for form factor and to have a vape that's not such a juice hog). Everything else is either ugly, clunky, overly circuit-ized, or just too temporary and disposable for me. I don't think, as of this post, there is an available device that I'm not aware of. I take gadget research pretty seriously. The ONE and only button-ey, screen-ey device I have even given a second thought to is the Vapor Shark rDNA 40. Form factor and function on this device seem unparalleled do far. I should mention I like my devices smaaaaaall. I'd LOVE to find something USA made that has a DNA 40/ temp sensing in a small size as the rDNA. Either way I certainly don't expect any device with a circuit board to last very long... especially if any buttons are directly mounted to a board. Give me enough time with it and I can ....... up a bowling ball!

I like the cut of yer jib sir!
I would suggest the VaporFlask as a USA made DNA device. It might be bigger than you're looking for but it does fit very nicely in the hand.

For me, and even a friend of mine, I enjoy regulated and a mech. I tend to gravitate to my regulated device in the morning when I first get up and usually rock the mechs the rest of the day. I personally don't see mechs going anywhere. There are far too many people who love to tinker and love the simplicity of mechanical devices, just the same as there are some people who enjoy a new car with all of the bells and whistles, yet there are those who just love the classics for the same reasons as listed above. YMMV

There's so many things that can go wrong with any electronic device. Circuits fry, connections short or break, moisture/water, etc...
Go ahead and vape your MPV or whatever in the rain and let me know how that works out for ya :D
I'm not taking chances with my vape. If something screws up in my mechanicals then it's an easy fix and I won't be sitting there with a brick.
Bricks are fun...you can throw them at things :)
