I think it's personal choice, but I prefer to buy fewer batteries and have them all in rotation. batteries are inexpensive and will never be banned.
Right now, the media is distracted with lung illness. But if/when they get back to their previous obsession with exploding mods, I wouldn't put it past the CPSC to decide that loose Li-ion cells are too dangerous to sell to the general public.

They do age in long-term storage, no matter how careful you are.
Indeed, they do. Chemical reactions do happen even when they're not used. Thing is, chemical reactions occur more slowly at reduced temperatures. So I wonder (and am attempting to determine) whether there are significant gains in shelf-life by storing them in the fridge of even in the freezer.

On freezing batteries, from Mooch:
"...Keeping it at room temperature is fine and prevents any possible condensation and rusting issues from keeping them at cold temperatures. Never freeze them! That can damage the battery and is a safety issue if you try to charge them at below 0°C/32°F. ..."

That used to be the proper way to handle them a long time ago, but not with newer Lithium-Ion batteries. ;)
Actually, the ideal way to handle modern Li-ion batteries is to minimize the amount of time they spend fully charged at 4.2V. That means charging right before you use them rather that immediately after you've used them. However, that's hardly convenient, which is why I respectfully disagree with Mooch about having all your cells in rotation. If you leave them all sitting around fully charged except when you're using them, this is harder on them than having some in storage at around 3.6V.

There are also some life-cycle gains to be had by only charging them to 4.10 or even 4.05V, but of course you give up some capacity by doing this, and there are are almost no chargers that support this. There's one that does, but it's got a complicated UI and costs ~$100.00.

Yes, it's definitely dangerous to charge them while they're cold. I never suggested doing that. Let them come to room temperature before charging! But storage at those temps should be fine; every data sheet allows for it. And condensation can be mitigated.

According to this, there is a very minor advantage at 0°C... but this is only for one year... I wonder about 4 or 5 or more years?

.........40% charge.............100% charge
0°C.....98% (after 1 year)....94% (after 1 year)
25°C...96% (after 1 year)....80% (after 1 year) Room Temp 77F
40°C...85% (after 1 year)....65% (after 1 year)
60°C...75% (after 1 year)....60% (after 3 months)

How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries - Battery University

EDIT: Also, if I were ever to freeze them, it would be in a sealed ziplock bag with silica gel packets.

I'll stick with what Mooch said, which is consistent with:

"...
Lithium ion batteries are not only found in e-cigs, but also laptops and other electronic devices. The U.S Departments Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) recommends ion batteries be kept between a temperature range of 14 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
...
The biggest consequence of leaving your device in the cold is that it can damage the battery to the point where it will no longer hold a charge the way it once did. So, you may invest in a great battery, but if you leave it out in the cold you will have completely wasted your money. Extreme coldness shortens the overall lifespan of a battery. "

And Battery University:
"There is virtually no self-discharge below about 4.0V at 20C (68F);"

And PowerStream:
"...Panasonic Lithium Ion Battery Storage:

The batteries should be stored at room temperature, charged to about 30 to 50% of capacity. We recommend that the batteries be charged about once per year to prevent overdischarge."

Yeah, the chart I copied and pasted above shows only a 2% difference after a year at 0° compared to 77°, in-spite of everything you said, not sure 2% is worth the time or trouble.

Yeah, I have one in my cart... been there since you posted those (that's the one I picked), but being a cheapskate, after shelling out so much money, I do not want to pay the 5.99 shipping for just one cheap item, so I am going to have to find something else to buy so the shipping cost is spread out. I was hoping they would have a bigger selection of 20700/21700 mods (I want 2 of them but I want them to be in the under 30 range for those, just the mod without a kit). I just placed an order with them a few days ago, too bad I did not ask about this earlier.

I foresee nic being smuggled into the country. Think about it, 750 ml of pure nic would avoid over $20,000 in taxes. Why did I choose 750ml? Because that's a standard size for a bottle of liquor, and no customs agent give a single bottle of liquor a second glance or thought if you declare it with a nominal value on your form 6059B declaration when you re-enter the country. Buy a bottle of some local liquor while overseas. Drink it, or dump it down the drain. Fill bottle with nic and bring it back. Profit. ;)

You're right, it's not. The tax on a single Juul pod would only be about $1.15, and on a 30ml bottle of 12mg juice, it would be just over $10.00. So not a complete show stopper for people who vape retail products. But for the DIY crowd who are used to buying liters of 100 mg base for $50-$100, it's killer.

I think IQOS is already classified as a cigarette and already subject to all the existing taxes on them.
Oh the irony, bootleg nic in a Wiskey bottle! LOL I hope someone does a documentary movie about vaping history and bans etc like they do for prohibition.

House ways and means passed the bill 5 days ago.
I see nothing on CASAA or in a search indicating the full House has done anything with it.
The Bill would be up for amendments when it gets scheduled for consideration.
The Bill would then have to have something passed by the Senate.
Any differences would have to be resolved between House and Senate.
The President would have to sign it.
I believe that's all correct.

As written, best I can tell, effectivity would not be until 90 days after all of the above occurs.
IIRC, the House version is effective 180 days after enactment, and the Senate version in the first quarter that starts 90 days after enactment (so somewhere between 90 and 180 days).

I don't look at this as time to freak out.
Freak out, no. But get your ducks in order when it comes to nicotine supplies (if you haven't already)? Absolutely.

When I joined WW I informed the hubby that I would be making food that fits the program I was on. If he did not want to eat it he could learn to cook for himself. He has lost 65 pounds himself in the last year eating what I put in front of him and what he wants the rest of the day. Not hearing any complaints from him on it. ;)

Park might be what you do more often [emoji3] Teslas, EVs struggle in the polar vortex

On the nic bill, this is from the HR:
"Effective Date.—The amendments made by this subsection shall apply to articles manufactured or imported in calendar quarters beginning more than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act."

I'm pretty sure this is from the version out of House Ways & Means, though I could be wrong. We both agree there's a path from one Bill getting out of a committee to something being enacted [emoji106]

Net, for me I might choose to get another liter, but don't see that happening until early next year. Preparing is good, but the sky hasn't fallen (perhaps it's falling, but at government speed [emoji3] )

That is great. I basically told hubby that I can't eat what I used to or bake goodies, so if he wants different buy it! He now brings home apple strudel and cherry turn overs but said it was me who liked pastry not him! LOL

I looked through their flash sale, sale, and clearance sections and nothing caught my eye... :( Then I remembered they had ultrasonic cleaners and I had planned on getting one in the future and I struck out there too as they are all sold out. I might have to suck it up and just buy it... it's still a good deal either way.
