Don't know when they were sent, but I know UPS is ready to start sending shipments through the FDA on August 8th.
I don't understand how they are screening this because if every China package coming in is screened they would sure be bogged down! I have something from FT coming but could get here before 8-8 but not vape things so will be interesting.

Thanks Retired.

Going on the generality of what's being said here. ;) I think most people in the vaping community (vendors AND customers) have not taken into account that there is a whole lot the deeming order didn't have to spell out specifically about our vaping toys because once deemed a tobacco product other laws already on the books would kick into effect. :( Import laws being a very important example of what I'm talking about.
Customs has very specific rules they must follow. Generally, they are looking for orders over the $100.00 mark. If over that, they may open to determine the contents, or not. I had one package sit in Chicago for many days so I went looking for answers and found this info out. It was not easy to find. I looked under customs for Chicago airport and was able to determine (by the city in KY) where it was. It also says that if there is a question or problem they will contact you. I was never contacted and my package was finally released for delivery.

I think that everybody is ordering from China before the cut off date and they are probably just really swamped with packages. We are not the only ones ordering from overseas. I imagine that a lot of vendors have placed huge orders trying to beat that date.

How can the FDA screen shipments, and how does UPS even know what a shipment contains? Has the FDA set up a warehouse somewhere and empowered inspectors to open packages?
If it's an international shipment, the contents of the package are going to be on the customs slip. Anything e-cig related is slated for inspection starting next month.
I don't understand this either. All packages from China declared to be e-cig-related will be routed to the FDA for inspection? They have the warehousing and manpower for such inspections? Surely they are aware that not all vape-related packages will be declared as such. We have seen examples of that.

Customs may have very specific rules but I personally think they do whatever they want. I've had orders over & under $100 that sat forever in SF before finally making it's way to me. Anything that came thru the Chicago hub arrived to me muuuuuuuuuuch faster.

So if we buy before the 8-8 date but delivery is after 8-8 from China we are screwed? Does anyone have info about tobacco product imports? I did not look at those rules.
Let me see if I can find the info from when I searched before. It did mention tobacco but I kinda skipped over that part because it was before all of this mess.

Thanks. Once something gets denied by customs it is generally returned to sender?? I ship all over the world for other things (horse related) and one shipment that was sent to Argentina was returned to me as undeliverable so I am wondering will this happen for things deemed undeliverable to us ? Another shipment from me to Australia was caught by customs and not released and not returned to me, so this makes me wonder where does all that stuff end up?

One of my packages from Fasttech (for much less than $100) spent almost two weeks in Chicago.

Your unfortunate event most likely had to do with import tax and/or your unluckiness that your package got the random "let's check it out cause its value is showing as over $100" to make sure its following all the rules that could apply as you found when you checked.

When our vaping products become tobacco products 8/8/16 they will fall under the import rules for tobacco products. I've been watching the customs website for weeks now watching for the revised rule for our ecigs but its still not there. Customs revised their rules for the paperwork foreign exporters to our country had to submit a few weeks ago which obviously coincided with the coming deeming order even though it didn't target ecigs. Customs will be watching the paperwork accompanying shipments but they aren't dumb ;) they will also know the major ecig exporters, even those that don't ship directly under an ecig company name.

Many say there are too many packages so they won't inspect many because it will take too long. Those people don't realize customs doesn't care how long it takes. And no, they won't check every package, just enough to make their point and scare people away from ordering. Fear is all they need to control the vast amount of shipments.

I guess it depends on what's found. Up here, customs will destroy e-liquid shipments that they find.

Just a quick glance seems it may not be a good idea to have items shipped "discreetly":
If it is inaccurate enough to seem deliberately misleading -- keep in mind that CBP does randomly inspect packages -- your goods could be seized and you may be assessed a fine.

It will be the buyers responsibility because they become the "importer" and will be held accountable.

Apparently 4 weeks will be the norm from what I've been told. As we're talking government agency involvement, I'd probably triple that assessment as being closer to reality.
