I do on one level agree with this. On another level though enough has to be learned to get gear appropriate for how it is going to be used. For example a bolt is a bad choice for a very low ohm vaper. We don't have the luxury to learn, then buy.
Are a few of these:
Rebuildable Atomizer - Tobeco - 26650 Kayfun Lite Plus
or these:
Rebuildable Atomizer - Tobeco - Rocket Kayfun V3.1
worth getting?
Yessir, I understand that. I've read quite a bit that KFL's have a bad tendency to leak - I'm not sure if that's from the maker, or mishandling, or what exactly. My question was, are those of good quality? For starters, those are MTL RTAs. Possibly RDL depending on your definition of RDL.

Currently, yes. But I haven't really explored MTL's yet. If they're good quality and something I can mess with down the road, I'd consider getting a few at their price. For starters, those are MTL RTAs. Possibly RDL depending on your definition of RDL. I assume you are a DL vaper?
I have had hit or miss luck with TObeco in general. Some is great and some really was not. As for Kayfuns I tried them (and their near cousin the Orchids) years ago. I did not have much luck with them. BUT there are people that absolutely have them dialed in and love them. I gave up pretty quick on them and last year gave all of mine away.Yessir, I understand that. I haven't bought or used anything made by Tobeco yet.

That does bring up an interesting question - none of these show pictures of the build deck. I'd never even thought about how different/difficult they would be.I'll be honest, for someone who hasn't been building (do I assume correctly), old RTAs like that aren't e best as they don't have good coil mounting systems. Can be frustrating to catch the coil legs. There is a mod you can do, but you can do better.
That's fair. What are your favorite tanks? To put it bluntly I am a squonker and any tank has to be pretty fantastic for me to use it with regularity.

I have this and have it mounted on an Asmodus Colossal 80W. It's definitely a tight DL if it's considered an DL, but judging by the drip tip, it's almost like it doesn't know which one it is. It gets pretty hot after a few puffs and definitely takes some preheating, but I take longer drags so it works fine for me. Took a bit for it to grow on me though. I like the flavor out of it.If you're looking for a cheap RTA that is somewhat more modern and easy to coil, ecigmafia still has the Uwell D2 dual coil RTA for $1.99.
Uwell D2 RTA Tank
Is it the greatest RTA in the world, nah. But it's the right price and it works. And it's top airflow so, while it can leak, it's not as big a deal like a bottom airflow tank leaking. While it is a DL RTA, my classify it as not flow DL. Goes from RDL to very loose RDL, IMHO.
As with all RTAs, wicking is the key. You have to learn how each RTA needs to be wicked in order to minimize leakage and dry hits. There are a few videos on wicking the D2 on YT.
I love my cerebus tank (but you have to hunt down a 3rd party RBA to make it rebuildable) and my Blotto which is rebuildable out of the box. Now both of these are most definitely NOT MTL tanks. That's fair. What are your favorite tanks?
I'm torn between buying mesh tanks exclusively, or some of both. I realize in the world of DIY, mesh is going to be a bit more costly and likely harder to acquire down the road if things keep going like they are. I'm really enjoying the quality of vape from the mesh though.

Ahhh, I like this. I made a decision a while ago that the only RDA's I'll get is if they're with the BF pin. I don't want to be carrying a bottle around with me.Have you considered drippers?
(like a squonk atty but without the hole in the bottom pin)
The SXK hadaly is a great easy to build little dripper and mine came with both a standard and a squonk pin. Dirt cheap

I would love to write reviews, but have no idea how you got into that. Seems like a pretty cool gig.
Ahh, thanks for reminding me. Someone mentioned getting an RBA for the Freemax Pro - I haven't looked into that yet. I have a cerberus tank on the way, might also be something to look into. Heard several good things about the Blotto, but the lowest I've seen that is slightly out of my bargain bin range. If it drops into the mid to high 20's, I'll consider picking one up.I love my cerebus tank (but you have to hunt down a 3rd party RBA to make it rebuildable) and my Blotto which is rebuildable out of the box. EDIT: Have to head out to pick up hubby from work will check back in later if you have questions.
