I understand the whole tobacco product thi has to do with it generally being refined from tobacco. Full synthetic is possible though, and was threatened at one point. A full synthetic would not be a “tobacco product” even though it would be chemically identical.
Wrong.

In response to the increase of NTN in popular tobacco products, Congress passed a federal law which went into effect on April 14, 2022, clarifying FDA’s authority to regulate tobacco products containing nicotine from any source, including synthetic nicotine. This law makes FDA's authority clear, and imposes requirements under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) for manufacturers, importers, retailers, and distributors of NTN products.

Manufacturers of NTN products who wish to market their products are required to submit a premarket application and obtain FDA authorization, or they will be subject to FDA enforcement.

Mech mods FTW!

A little polishing compound or Sunshine Cloth on the various bits that make contact they'll work good as new, no matter how long they've been in storage.

And exactly why I have several mechs in the vapocalypse box :)

And a supply of both fuses and kick modules, both of which will work just fine for this tootle-puffer ;)

I don't have a vapocalypse box. I just have a bunch of spare mods (all mech squonkers) and some spare internal parts for them. The mods I use the most have all been in service since 2015, The one that I use the most goes everywhere with me. It has developed a bit of "character"; some cracks along the grain of the wood, dings from drops, etc. I'm rather determined to keep using it until summer of 2025, when it will have been in service for a full ten years, at which point I'll allow it to retire,

Excessive complication. I like keeping my vape life simple.

Spare / extra mods and rtas, and spare parts for all. Probably enough "spare" regulated mods to finish off my life, but mechs in case all the electronics go south. Although, short of an EMP blast, likely won't need to go there. 11+ years in, I've only had two regulated mods go south, and one was definitely my fault.

All my mech stash are suitable to hold the kick, and of course the fuse modules are even shorter. Sure, I can build for a good vape on a mech, but I just like a few more layers of protection. Just in case I drop the thing and don't know the coil shifted ;)

Variety, they say, is the spice of life. Nice to (still!) have choices!!

:) On a brighter note, I have an Istick 20W that I had to stop using long ago because the crappy brass 510 stripped beyond use. That's my oldest "box mod". Would never have bought any 30W versions if they didn't put a stainless steel 510 on it! Anyhow, I rigged it so that it can be used (very carefully), charged it up and was able to vape on it (almost exclusively) for about 1.5 days at 7.5W! So I think it's safe to say that battery's health is near 100% even after all these years, mostly in storage.
At one time I got a couple of Isticks from my GS, a 30W and a 40W. The 510 on the 30W died. It didn't appear to have stripped threads, just got spread out until a tank wouldn't hold at all. At the time I read somewhere that the SS 510 came in with the 40W. Maybe some early 30W mods had the non-SS 510.

My 40W finally died last year.

I have a collection of Silver Bullets for the End Times. Use one with a fuse from time to time to stay in touch. I do have an extension tube for Kicks. I read that the buttons on the semi-mech version were off the shelf elevator buttons with some insanely large anticipated number of pushes before they fail.

Not that I'm aware of. The SS 510 on the 30W was one of the big selling points for that mod: 10W increase, lower resistance, 22mm without overhang and SS 510.

The 20W and 30W isticks were heavily cloned mods so that could be factor.

Well that makes that clear.

I never saw one myself. The 510 was developed for the cigalike BLU, but they screwed up the patent so it went everywhere. There was debate about whether it was actually the best one, but imho it really didn’t matter. It was gud’nuff and a standard was badly needed.

It wasn’t much worse than the best though, and could handle more wattage than most. It’s a bit like lightning vs USBC. Lightning really is better. It’s cheaper to make, more rugged, and easier to clean. USBC is still going to kill it though. USBC is more or less a crappy work-alike. It’s inside-out lightning made to get around the patent. It’s more fragile and harder to clean. It’s gud’nuff though too. 510 was closer to the best than USBC is. Apple screwed up half patenting lightning. Copyleft crushes proprietary every time. Even if it’s not as good. It’s why I dislike pods. They’re proprietary. Make a standard and I’m all over em.

Before that there were some “pens” which were like cigalikes but bigger, and some cigaralikes (that were sometimes effectively hollowed out cigars) but afaik the first “mod” was the screwdriver (which actually looked like a screwdriver) which happened long after the 510 became standard. I suspect the term “mod came from people “modding” Altoids tins with a battery holder, a button, and a 510 connector. My first device was an rn232, not a 510, the brand was “cloud9” iirc. It was a cigalike too though. The first “mod” I got was actually a kit. It held 3 AA batteries and was more or less a project box

Reading this recent chat has made me glad I was a bit of a mod-aholic. I know I'll have to refamiliarize with flashlight suppliers to replenish 18650's, but glad to find experiences people are having with their non pod gear. Here's to 510 connection forever. LOL

Ah Mooch. Thank you all that reminded me of this terrific source. Much appreciated.

For old timers -- I've been through a few chargers through the years, but my original Pila (which was highly touted over a decade ago) is still going strong. I have a couple other brand back ups, but in no rush to even try them. :)

TLDNR: yup. Here’s why I think he made a good buy

People sometimes forget that literally everything is amortized over time. Even if that charger cost more because it’s lasted that long it’s likely cheaper than a charger that cost less but only lasted 5 years.

TLDNR: examples using iPhones and cars

It’s why I went iPhone. They do software for 8years (sometimes more) other companies do it for as little as 2. So the phone that lasts 2 has to be 4 times cheaper than the iPhone to break even. At the end of 8 years a top spec iPhone will be a lower mid spec phone. Lower mid spec android phones cost maybe $300 so 1/3 instead of 1/4. iPhone wins on cost…. Unless of course you break it. THEN it’s more expensive. So it’s a bit like 1980’s Mercedes. Not 2000 Mercedes. Just 1980s 300s.

I placed an order with a US retailer last week and they shipped without Adult 21+ signature service, which is fine by me, nor did they charge me a separate charge for it. It also wasn't on tracking or the label so I know my postman didn't just leave it.

Only gripe I had was that they were out of stock on about half of what I bought even though stock levels showed well above what I ordered. For one product they tried to "tell" me they were gonna send the rainbow color instead, so I had to school them on that (that's a ludicrous way to do business lol). I ain't down with that. I did settle for another color I'm not usually cool with, but the price was too good.

I actually did buy a Pink Pico for a super duper clearance price with the intent to switch out the body when my Brushed Steel Pico dies. But I ended up finding some more Brushed Steel Picos and sold the pink one on Reddit. Pink Picos are actually kinda popular.
