I guess I'm just old and ornery, but I just HATE having to jump through hoops!

I think what bothers me is all of my info is floating around for someone to take
Did they say you had to use your DL? I'd rather use this one. :grr:

When I am vacuum sealing some things, I don't want the FS to pull it too tightly. (Dehydrated potatoes- sharp) I hit the vacuum seal buttton and when it gets to where I want it, you hit the button again. It stops vacuuming and seals.
You don't have to let it go till it crushes the boxes. Just pull most of the air out. :)

I have one of those unadjustable $40 cheapies you can get on amazon.com. No vacuum seal button: it either sucks out all the air and seals, or it doesn't suck any air at all. It works great for meats and such, which is why I got it in the first place.

Just had a thought...... can I use rice instead of the silicone packets? I still haven't gotten any packets and I have a ton of rice ;)

To go a step farther, make my own packets of rice with string and coffee filter?

It certainly wouldn't hurt :) In fact, I like the idea. :)

I haven't purchased any silicone packets. I just reuse the ones that show up in medicine bottles or the other odd package every once in a while. Amazing how many of those we end up with every month :(

I know, felt stupid at my age. Like being carded in a bar when you have silver hair and are like 60 years old.

I don't mind that. I regard it as a compliment. :)

You wait, young'un! Some day you'll be 68 like me. See how you feel then.

Besides, getting carded in a bar doesn't result in a paper or electron trail.

Pre-assembled silica gel packets are 4.7¢ each, on amazon.com. Isn't it easier and cheaper just to buy actual silica gel packets?

Or your local friendly pharmacist can collect them for you.

Yeah, but then that would mean more money going out and my CC is smoking pretty much right now.

I have a bunch of rice and old coffee filters (my old coffee maker required one type and the new coffee maker uses a different style). Not a big deal ;)

I think Minute Rice and the like is more effective as a collector of moisture. And if you have a sewing machine, fabric would be better, for either silica or rice.

Cant say for sure because I have never tried it but I do remember reading a post either here or on an iphone article that rice is not a good moisture absorber despite conventional thinking. Silica, then cat litter were no 1 and no 2. Here, I found the article: How We Drowned Nine Phones and Found The Truth About Rice

Maybe so, but I do know that a few grains of minute rice in a salt shaker keeps the salt from clumping and clogging the holes.

And to go just a bit farther, all we are doing is just keeping a tiny bit of moisture from making contacts rust/wear out.

Dripping phone vs nothing wet yet trying to keep minuscule amounts of moisture out.

I guess now that stocking up is winding down, we can all show off our stuff and discuss all the new to us things we acquired.

Not there yet.... Stock will continue to grow at same rate for next 6 months, $300 to $600 per month.

Just use a small box, salt shaker, yogurt cup, odd sock, anything small. Don't even need a cover.
