It is my understanding that the merchant is/will be responsible for any fraud since the whole chip thing became activated. I think the cc companies are wanting to pass responsibility on to them if they don't have working card readers. Something like this could cause massive headaches. Now, whether or not the cc companies will actually win this argument is yet to be seen, but I thought it might be worth a mention.

Correct. I was not liable for the transaction though I don't know if it was on the card issuer or the merchant, and don't really care. This is also why I never use a debit card except at an ATM.

chip cards ftw, though not sure they help with online purchases. For FTF purchases I refuse to swipe my card now if the store doesn't have the chip readers working. Obv this means I need to carry a few hundred in cash with me most of the time just in case, or at least make sure their chip readers are working before I grab what I am buying.
We (my wife and I) rarely spend more than $400 in cash per year. Mostly during trips. CCs are too convenient. I even do not have space in my wallet for cash.

That's the main point to me too. My debit card # got lifted from who knows where, so my bank told me to use their reg cc(visa) instead. They said it made it easier for them because it goes through visa instead of the checking acct. So I too only will use the debit when I need cash back. It seems like no place is safe anymore. I don't even use ATM's unless I actually have to. I just use the debit at Walmart or the grocery store. Neither of them charge a fee so why not.

So I'm almost there, I think, and thinking of ordering some flavorings...but someone got the number of my cc and used it and now I have to wait while it's replaced! Grrr. I hate identity thieves.

Same thing happened to me during the pre-4th of July sales :-x and I know where it happened because it was the only place I had used that card in a while.
My card holder caught it right away, called me, shut my card down and issued me a new one but it stopped me from being able to take advantage of any other vape sale that weekend.
This is why I like using Paypal to buy things from online. In all the years I have been using paypal to pay I have never had any problems no matter where in the world or who I am buying from, but I swear, the minute I use a cc without going through paypal to pay (2 other occasions) my cc info gets stolen. The only exception for me has been with Amazon.

Then there's me... using my card wherever and whenever I want because card security is not my job and therefore why I'm never held accountable for someone else getting free World of Warcraft.
While you are protected, you still (most likely) have to initiate a claim with your cc or bank. Mine did not realize a problem until I was alerted of the charges(2) via text msg. Then I had to go into the bank and sign papers that I did not make these purchases. Only then would they begin their 'investigation'. Well, I had already called the company(both purchases were to the same place with a couple of cents difference) to find out that they were made just minutes apart and sent to Florida and to NY. I asked them why they didn't match the addr with the credit card company. They couldn't answer that one. So basically, I did the bank's job for them. But they would not authorized the refund until my bank got involved. What a pita.

I can't like your post cause I know how upsetting all that is. I am with you tho, I use paypal when I can and shop a lot from Amazon. May pay a little more, but its worth it to me.
I do have the vendors that I have been shopping with for a few years, so I trust them, but that is no guarantee that something could not still happen.

I have had my CC stolen many times, but knock on wood seems ok right now. I always check my statement before paying to look for fraudulent charges. I also had a PP credit card/debit card stolen using it online, so I don't use one anymore. Just paid my CC, well paid on it :) Not as bad I thought it would be, so that is good :) Feeling stocked up and good about my stash today, no deeming anxiety! LOL

I wonder if the ECF Classies will change to trades only here in US after 8-8-16. Seems I over stocked on a few things, but anything I don't have may trade for other things ???
I can't see how the FDA could stop a used vape gear transaction from person to person. I send you money thru PayPal or money transfer (not referencing vape gear) and you send me a plain package thru the mail. Done and ECF isn't involved really.

I AM in Canada, so shipping across borders could be a PITA, but inter-country would be a breeze.

Not sure why it would change to trade only after 8-8-16? It will still be legal to sell and buy eliquid and vaping gear online and as far as I have read nothing is mentioned about private one to one sales from state to state.

From what I understand Indiana is closing abt 80%+ of the vaping stores statewide. There was a law passed that said that nobody can buy nic/prepared juice outside of Indiana, and there are just 6 vendors that are approved for the entire state, 2 of which are not even in business to make e-liquids yet.

I just jumped in here and saw your post and read a couple pages ahead and didn't see a response so...
What you said is true. There are 4 permit holders (mfg) that make juice and the remaining shops that haven't closed HAVE to buy their juice from these 4 manufacturer's. We can't buy online or receive juice from outside of Indiana. It was just announced that we can cross the state's border and buy juice and bring it back legally but if caught with it we'd have to prove in court that we purchased it out of state. Can anybody say monopoly? :grr:

I use a prepaid card for all online purchases. I also use it at gas stations on the road.

Aside from the fees the downside is you have little to no protection with most general-purpose prepaid cards against unauthorized use if the info is stolen and someone takes all the money you have on it, on the plus side it is not attached to your bank account or ss#.

That's the main reason I use them. I only load the amount that I am going to spend and the fees are only $3 a month - worth it to me to keep online thieves or skimmers out of my bank accounts and away from my personal info...
