For the first time since I started vaping something has started to fail on me. The 510 threads on a Sigelei 30 are messed up. If I install a tank it wobbles around loose and it can't get a stable ohm reading. I figured it would happen, the threads are part of the aluminum top, not stainless. It lasted for 2 years of daily use though.
I did get it working again. Put a 510 to 510 thread saver on it and cranked it down tight. The pin in the thread saver is loose so it just pushes up when it hits the pin on the mod. I'll probably put one on the other Sig 30 before the threads go bad.
It felt like a premonition of how it's going to feel a few years down the road when a mod dies and there's no way to replace it.
I don't have many mods, at least it doesn't seem that way right now. A couple of Sig 30's, a Sig 20 tube, 3 Provari 2.5's, and some Silver Bullets. Might not have the 30's much longer. Maybe I need more Provari's. Don't try talking me out of it. I don't feel guilty because everything I've bought has been old timey and on sale cheap.
I had an (ego style) Johnson Creek Vea do that back when I first started vaping. Same situation as you, aluminum 510 receiver.
Was able to salvage it with a 510 to 510 connector, just like you've done.
Took it one step further though, my DH used just a little bit of JB Weld to secure the 510 connector since the receiver on the mod was so loose. It worked GREAT!!
It's up to you if you want to try it, I'd feel bad if it didn't for you and jacked up your mod, so think about it before you try it, but it did work great for me.
We tried it because as it was, mine was shot, and I had nothing to lose, even the 510 connector didn't stay in place.
So, if you get to that point...it might be worth a shot.
Worst case, you lose the 510 connector.
