I am never going to learn how to make Vietnamese Pho soup. I make a mean Sushi roll, but I know my limitations. There are certain things I just like one shots for, and well, recipes containing half a drop (while it's quite easy, the Sushi chef takes his Japanese knife and CUTS the drop mid-air flicking it away in disdain) well, I also know I am not going to get EVERY elusive flavor known to mankind.
Especially bacon. Because the boy, at his next visit, would then relapse into vaping and I just can't HAVE that, and while I was supremely indifferent to morning sickness while pregnant, bacon was the EXCEPTION (I guess even then the kid was like, "Ralph, mom, leave a little for me!") To this day, the smell of bacon cooking makes me gag a little.
it really cost me a lot of "good mom" points to buy the kid the Bacon Soap he so desperately wanted on some trip when I ran into it. I told him he couldn't use it on weekdays (I did not want everyone thinking my kid ate bacon non stop) nor on Weekends, as it made me want to hurl,. That left, like Christmas and whatnot.
But my point is, I don't think you can ever get ALL the flavors and a certain level of willingness to sub is probably fine. I will eat Canadian bacon for example. Although I think they call it that to drive the price up, it seems a lot like ham to me.
My afternoon was HELL NOT A NOTE left undone but it was llke 28 or something hellish. I ate late.
