I guess I'm a cheater, since I've done both. My favorite tank is still the Aspire Nautilus. I've got five of them in unopened boxes along with a stockpile of coils. Meanwhile, I've stocked up on newer equipment, bought at bargain prices. False dilemma, if you ask me.

If I really love it because of weight/hand feel/ features, and it’s proven to be reliable...I have gone back and bought multiples (generally pairs, but a few I have 3-4 of one type). I do have some singles that were bought for the stash, but I find myself going back to my favs more than any of the others. My table sort of looks like a vaping Noah’s Ark right now... several sets of twins. I did aim for diversity in chip/brand along my journey. If I were starting from scratch right now, I’d definitely go with tried and true in multiples, paying attention to mods that have held up long term for others.

I stocked up on squonkers and bf RDA's mostly. I hadn't tried any of them before, so I bought one at a time based on advice from members here. For me it was taking a chance with alot of research and questions. Most of my old gear isn't available anymore, and none of it included good squonkers/bf RDA's (one exception SXK Hadaly clone). Glad for the pointers on devices, and sales, from the good people here on ECF. That made a huge difference.

I did both. But after trying newer things I realized I prefer my tried and true older things. But if I liked the newer things I wouldn’t have known that I liked them until I tried them. But I do love some of my newer things so I’m glad I have both.

I did do it and looking at them I’m happy as perhaps the last that GP vapourart sold before they ended. I do however have 5 authentic paps v4s. I wonder if it’s overkill
I have a recurring thought of losing my two main (one in hand now) but being happy I have the spares.
But I look at you guys and your ‘what am I vaping today’ and I think I could have bought those

guess I won’t know for sure until something happens to four of them knowing I did well

One of which I already buggered up trying to use a big boy toy to sand down some scratches.

For tanks i picked one compatible family (baby beast, via Hellbeast, NRG, Cerberus tanks), built up a healthy supply of coils that I liked (Vaporesso gt ccell and ccell 2 in my case).

After that base was covered I branched out when I caught a couple of enticing sales (a pair of fireluke 2 tanks and 95 total heads on a really good sale, around $55 total, and recently 130 kanger 0.5 ohm coils at 50 cents for a 5 pack, plus 2 tanks, net $60 all in on kanger).

I mainly build my own coils, but have at least a 4 year supply of prebuilt heads and tanks, if for some reason I can't build.

For rda/rta, I had a lot of rda from the last few years, have just gotten an sxk Haku riviera squonk rdta clone, and a pair of krma styled rda, plus a pair of berserker mtl rta, a couple silverplay rta, and a couple of one-off rta for variety.

For mods I honestly had a decent set, have been picking off onesy-twosy things that really looked good, at good prices. A couple of gv aegis solo at around $20 each, couple of gv Athena mech squonker at the same price point, one jackaroo at about $25, ...

All hardware and nicotine base I've bought the last 5 months has been on sales, quite a lot of it clearance-priced hardware.

I've spent less than it would have run for a half year of my old pack a day cigarette habit, and I now have a several decade supply of everything except flavorings & batteries, which are consumables (& should readily be available long term).

The PAL 2's arrived, fast shipping Mt Baker! They are so cute! For someone that had hardly any pods, I am swimming in them now LOL! They are great for a small sized vape.

As for my stocking strategy, in 2016 I basically stocked Kayfun clones & Provari's which are my favorites. In 2019 I wanted to diversify and picked up other things, especially mods that take other size batts, tried other MTL tanks and also stocked up on squonkers and RDA's which I still have not tried yet. So glad I did this so I have new toys down the road.

Lithium secondary (rechargeable) batteries, whether replaceable or built-in, can only be counted on for a couple of year life span. It's a chemistry thing. Even unused, and maintained at a reasonable storage voltage, there'll be a decrease in capacity after a year or so.

I know some folks talk about built-in battery mods working okay after 4 or 5 years, but I have faith in science. They may work, but they certainly have decreased battery performance.

Any mod I count on for multiple years out has replaceable batteries, and any replaceable batteries I pick up are fair game for immediate use, since they will drop in performance over time.

I got a lot of four different tanks that I liked. Most of them in clearance sales.

Pretty much the same with mods, a lot of Provaris, Picos, Solos and some mechs. I did get a handful of others along the way. It's probably a good idea to have more variety in mods. Tanks aren't going to wear out in storage, so long as you have plenty of o-rings and glass they will last forever, but we have no way of knowing how well mods will last. Some will last longer than others so getting a variety of different mods might be the safe way to go.

I had years to get prepared. Feel sorry for folks who are starting today.

I sometimes wonder whether I would have done it differently if there was no Deeming. Maybe more adventurous. I might enjoy trying out new tanks and mods. Without the pressure it would be like any other hobby, Buy whatever took your fancy when you had a bit of spare money.

I stocked known things I know I can live with long term. Once that was done I picked up a few odds or ends to try for the heck of it but they were not really stockpile stuff. Just fun stuff to enjoy for the short term.

Call it weasily if you like but that IS what I did.

There are a few reason why decided to use option #2 for half of the mods I bought in the last 3 months or so. All my mods are 18650 and I wanted 2x700 mods. I was a staunch "18650 will never die" person but I came across some articles about the subject and discovered that Elon Musk is behind the push to dump 18650 for 21700. This prompted me to only buy 18650/21700 mods from that point forward, because Elon Musk is one influential dude who buys a lot of batteries. In fact, the cost of manufacturing 21700 batts is coming down all the time now due to increasing OEM demand.

At some point, all battery packs (computers, power tools, etc) will have 21700 batts in them instead of 18650. 18650 will still be available for a while, but the selection will be small and the cost will be more than 21700 since they won't be produced as much. Power supply/battery pack manufacturers dictate the supply for such batteries since they are the vast majority of the demand for them.

This could take 10 years to come to fruition, but that's not far off. As such, I believe 21700 mods are much more "vapocalypse-ready" than 18650 mods are (at this point in time anyway).

But the nice thing about it is that every 21700 mod I bought takes both 21700 and 18650 (with supplied adapter), so no need to buy 21700 batt right away should I decide to put any of them in rotation.

So I guess this now makes me a "weasily cheater"

i like the sigelei sobra.
my first one is a year old n going strong.
lost some paint but who cares.

based on this i have 10 sobras to keep me going.
but, one just died at 2 months.
i have no idea how dependable they now are.

Well I guess that depends on a lot of things. All my current 18650s in rotation are way over 2 years old. They still work with no problem except they don't hold a charge as long as they used to when brand new. But being a <20W vaper, one old battery still lasts me quite a few hours.

As long as they continue to hold a charge for 2 or more hours, and as long as they don't show signs of being unreliable or unsufe, I use 'em.

Is this unsafe practice? Idunno. So far, it hasn't proven to be unsafe (for me), but anything's possible.
