@ShannonA, we are a LONG ways from vape mixers being able to print ingredients labels, because even two levels up the supply chain from them there are no such lists available yet, even for perusal: it's proprietary, trade secrets. This is changing very slowly. But what I'm proposing CAN be done now. If the mixers only buy flavoring from vendors who DO flag diketone presence, then they too can flag 'em.

Is there any update on this from FSUSA? Has anyone contacted them and what is their response?

I'm sure smoking analogs for 30 years was a lot more harmful than the small amounts of diacetyl I knowingly inhale ...removing it is not the answer because some people still choose to vape juices that contain it. Educating people and letting them make their own decision is what I feel is best. I just don't understand where some people get off thinking they can decide what is good for me or what I or others can or can not be allowed to vape. I have the right to choose and want it to stay that way. You have the right to choose not to buy juices that contain it why would you feel it's ok to take my right to choose to buy it from me?

I think the threads discussing DIACETYL are extremely important. It advises a newb that there can be an issue with diacetyl. I never even knew about diacetyl until this thread opened. As it turns out, I was safe anyway b/c I only DIY, and now I choose my flavorings accordingly. I like to know all issues regarding vaping safety so I can make my own choices. I'm so glad this thread is still alive. If ppl don't like the content of the thread, then they don't have to visit it - and many don't. I visit it often to see if there is any new info.

FlavourArt has been reformulating their flavors to eliminate diacetyl AND related compounds. Where this has proved impractical, they have marked the flavors as "Contains diacetyl and/or related diketones. Unsuitable for vaping." These are still fine for food use. Or, if you think it's all needless frettin', vape 'em. E-CigExpress has followed their lead and marked the affected FA flavors they sell the same way. Now we're getting somewhere.

Remains for all the juice makers to follow suit. One juice-blender company I approached on the issue of at least flagging the juices that use the "unsuitable" flavors gave some vague excuses, and then stopped responding. OK, the problem is they are likely in violation of the new OSHA bulletins that require hazard labeling.

FlavourArt makes their own flavoring from individual compounds. They know what they're doing. If anybody could do it, they would have, but so far they have not succeeded in making certain flavors without some of the dangerous chemicals, hence the "unsuitable for vaping" label. To me that's pretty much the last word, and synthesizing a new diketone and chanting "it's not diacetyl" is not going to cut it.

Acetoin has only one of the ketone tails on the molecule. The lab results on Acetoin are supposed to be released soon. When I spoke to the investigator, he said he had "a feeling" based on preliminary results that Acetoin would come out toxic but less so than the full diketones. Another problem is that Acetoin converts to Diacetyl in the body AND in the bottle. I'd say the answer for now is "no".

The Perfumer's Apprentice is also disclosing. From what I have read in a post is that she bought some pricey equipment to test her own juices to make sure there have been no slip-ups. However, I did not see this posted on her website the last time I visited ..... so until I hear it from her website, it's just rumor to me. I spent about an hour last night getting updated on the FlavourArt website, and they are really working on it - have other R&D corps involved also. I like the novel idea of their FLASH e-juice that gives ppl TH when they go down so low in mg that's it's nearly gone. I would like to believe that someone soon will find great-tasting butter, dairy, beer and custard notes replacements. Now how great would that be?

All of you suppliers gonna have to start using your heads (and hearts) instead of your wallets. Cyanide has a nice almondy smell. There was a report that it had an almondy taste as well, but the reporting party can't be contacted. Why aren't juice suppliers using it? Could it be that the question is just as absurd in relation to butter-flavorings that have been shown to devastate respiratory tissue in animals in just a few hours at a concentration that is achievable with e-cigs. Some compounds just don't belong in our lungs, in our e-liquids. Don't want to alarm people? Then don't use toxic flavoring.
