Try twisted 29g

I use twisted 28g, at 2.8mm, 5/6 wraps at 0.5~ ish ohms.

I run that at 25w (3.6ish volts), but I’ve recently discovered that 28w (3.8ish volts) is really nice too.

Don’t flatten it anymore! Hahaha!

I wouldn't mind just the 30g twisted and have used it not flattened, but the 29g would seem better and .5 isn't to bad, so might try the 28.....28 watts, I thought I ran my prime high at 23....

Watts always seems high, but doing the math for volts always comforts me.

3.8 volts is nice and happy!

No sir!

Calculating volts/watts is a leftover habit from the pre-Watt-capable Provari days!

My Radius/JACB-75/Billet Box mods all show watts, but my brain always wants to know the volts too...

I keep telling my brain it’s not necessary, but you know how brains are.

Can’t live WITH them, can’t live WITHOUT them!

Hey guys, question here. Since a few days now i'm getting a slight dry hit taste out of my kayfun prime. It's not much but it definitely is there and its starting to get a little frustrating. I think maybe the reason for this is that, since i'm starting to become a more 'seasoned' vapor now after a while, I take more/longer puffs per draw. I'm using 28g kanthal A1 8/9 wraps giving me around 1.70 ohm, vaping at 18 watts. juice is 50/50 pg/vg. I've tried different wicking methods : more tight/loose in the coil. More/less fluffed out tails. The wicking is actually really good and when I open up the kayfun to look at the deck, its always very saturated. Do you guys think a spaced coil would help? Or does anybody have experience with this? I like taking 2 or 3 puffs every draw to give me a more satisfying vape. ( I clean the tank quite often and I already made sure the juice channels are free. I open up the juiceflow control 2 or 3 turns, so this should be enough.. A lot of bubbles coming out when I do that so its definitely getting enough juice. I'm going to try a spaced coild now. Its a pity because I cant get as much coil in there to get to the higher ohms, as the spaced coil will take more space.

well I guess I will find this out myself. I was just wondering if more people have had this issue. Happy hollidays btw!

I'm not entirely sure, and I don't own that tank (though I did order a clone) but I'd say spaced coils couldn't HURT at this point. If you are using TC, spaced coils are definitely better, but it's possible you'll have more wick in the coil with spaced coils, so it may well be worth a shot. Tighter in the wick, and trim the tails. Also, if you haven't tried rayon, well that solved ALL my wicking problems so far. I really like it as a wicking material. The folks on the long rayon thread were able to solve all my wicking/coiling problems in two posts, and I haven't looked back! I just find it so much easier to use, in many, many ways.

Also, what is the diameter of your coil? I have found at times that using too large a diameter with my tank will cause me dry hit problems...

Hope this helps, even a little, and merry Christmas Prime owners. :) I am sure after the holidays or later someone with more experience with that tank will be along to help. A lot of folks are with family or traveling...

The only way I see it possible for you to get dry hits is either a bad coil, not enough cotton in coil, or to much cotton in channels....your coil can have a break in it, causing a short, so swap it out....a spaced shouldn't matter what so ever and if you switch to a spaced and it's all good, it's not for that reason...with your power and ohms, a contact coil in itself will not cause dry hits unless the coil is damaged. ...

Looks good, however I would loose a few wraps, you really won't notice a couple less and I believe a slightly shorter coil just fits better....if anything, it looks like you could use a bit more in the coil itself, but it's hard to really tell....one way you can tell if your not putting enough in coil is by the sizzle sound...after you release the fire button after a vape, there is a slight sizzle sound , most don't notice it, which is good, but if you hear this after sizzle going on for a second or two, that means you should add more in coil....also what ID coil?

I agree with Diver. Too much cotton in the wells will choke the flow of e-liquid to your wick. Stuffing the wells with wick has a negative affect. The tails can be either too long or too wide or both. The tail length should be no longer than the floor of the well and should be cut narrower such that there is room to the sides of the wick. E-liquid has to be allowed to enter the flow holes in the bottom of the well. To the extent you jam cotton in there you risk blocking those flow holes. The wick tail acts as a sponge drawing up the liquid so it doesn't need to be jammed in the well.
