For me, using Firefox, when I click the 'go to first unread post' button, it takes me to page 1 of the thread briefly, then bounces to the top of the page that my first unread post is on.

sonic - ditto ^ and my post count per page is set to 40 - i can't help with threads under 40 posts, none of my threads are that short

The reasons for not using IE are not an improved user-experience. With the exception of Ad blocker plug-ins, it isn't. In fact since most people use IE and websites cater to them, using other browsers is frequently irritating. The reason for not using IE is that just about any other browser is safer.

IE will execute native machine code known as ActiveX, an ill-considered attempt of Microsoft's to prove that the browser was part of Windows and therefore they were justified in giving it away free. In fact it is so tied into Windows that it is a security accident waiting to happen. Any number of security flaws flow from that. It will also not run plug-ins that enhance security.

uncle, all browsers seem to have the linking problem atm - what is not happening in ff is the getting booted and constantly having to clear cache and cookies to log back in ;)
if you don't have that problem stick with your ie and wait with the rest of us till the linking gets resolved! ;)

Thank you for reporting all the bugs.

There are so many right now that I can't promise when they'll all get done. The techies fix some every day, there are bigger ones right now such as some parts of the site aren't working at all.

!Tech stuff alert!
Most likely we have a situation where different apps need different PHP settings, which was easily fixed on our last host as we simply got a new box for anything that didn't play nice with the other stuff.

I think they are trying to run too many apps on too few boxes right now and are finding that you can't just put any bunch of server apps together and expect them to work straight off. You have to be an ace with local php.ini settings to do that, plus it sometimes needs an .htaccess fix to get a local php.ini file to work, and then when you throw Nginx server into the mix as well - you really need to know your onions. Probably we've got a mix of apps that need old and new PHP versions, register_globals on and off, magic_quotes on and off, local /tmp/ paths for each, .htaccess fixes without an htaccess file, and all the rest :)

Sooner or later we'll get there, it might need some new hardware added before everything is hunky-dory.

Um, before our next move, could you all work out a template of scripts, then hack your htacess, tmp directories as a test? Just sayin, I was plain with my Drupal site, and needed to learn on the fly changes to the htaccess and which directories, plus the error showing from the tmp was incorrect, because the server had the proper php protection already, which Drupal didn't pick up. But that web site ISN'T ready for prime time, though I have blogs linked to it (sub domain running Wordpress, but stuck with blogger redirect, don't have time to learn Wordpress just now).

Just sayin' don't ban me cause I'm new, unless moving to new server was easiest way to deal with hacking.

I'm member some very long threads (over 200 pages @40 posts per page). This is ugly (or at the minimum, ungodly awkward).

PS, since I'm being so conciliatory, could you guys increase the length to 100 posts per page? As long as we're reprogramming the directories.

:danger: :matrix:

^^ Exactly this! (which is how it used to behave when going to "view my last post").

I'm using FF, on a desktop. After initially resetting my password, I haven't had to enter it again, and have not been getting booted.

Edit to add: After submitting this post, it behaved exactly the same: briefly took me to the first post in the thread, then to the top of the page with the last post viewed.

And strangely enough, clicking on "view last post in thread" actually works! :)

Just as another confirmation, I'm still getting the first page of long threads when I try first unread post. I'm also getting logged out when I try to open any internal link or attachment. This is happening in Firefox, IE and Silk (on my kindle).

As an addition to the browser wars, ;) I had to use Firefox for a few sites, but it does not play well on my touchscreen laptop. I got the touchscreen to deal with disabilities and IE is the only browser that works seamlessly with it.

I seem to be experiencing the first unread post issue only if there is more than one page in the thread (mine are set to 40 posts/page, FWIW). So if it's 40 posts or less, it seems to work as expected. If 41+ posts, then it goes to the correct page, but only to the top of that page, and not to the correct post.

Can anyone else verify that this is what they're seeing?

Thanks!

Same here using Chrome and Windows 7. I'm also not seeing the "view last unread post" option anywhere.

Edit: And after I submit my post it takes me to the top of the page I posted on.

I understand what you are getting at, but I don't think that's the source of the problem. If it was a user display settings issue it wouldn't be wonking out under your scenario - and still putting you at the wrong place in the page. The info being returned to the user should work, but as I noticed it's sending an HTML URL that isn't working, but if you hit reload it converts that HTML URL to PHP - and then that does work.

That is the same thing I see using Chrome.

That's the problem I was referring to, that was fixed a long time ago and now seems to have reincarnated into a similar problem when doing replies in threads now.

About to be returned to the beginning of this thread and will then illustrate again with an ETA...

Well that was interesting.

Hit reply and it returned me to page one as expected, with this URL showing:

/forum/site-feedback-help/535932-back-online.html#post12452607

While I was looking for a "what the heck" in the page source code ECF changed the URL in my browser to:

/forum/showthread.php?p=12452607

I had not hit reload this time, and it seemed to take forever for that to happen. And it still brought me to the top of this page with my post in it, instead of to the post itself. Better! (Better?)

As you performed this massive migration this week, I thought it might be useful to report observations.

When I post a reply in a thread, upon refresh after clicking the button, I first see the original Page 1 of the thread for a few seconds before it finally comes to rest on the last page at the just-published post.

Again, not a complaint, of course, just information in case it is useful to you.

And thank you! Good to see improvements coming in.

:wubs: But I have no intention to move to "FF" - be the problems everyone is expercing here on ECF are resolved or not with that browser . . . Really to much of a problem and PITA to have to constantly download and update all the "sub-programs" (?) I would need/want to use that browser . . . Just Satin' . . . ;)

BTW: Just started experiencing a new problem, sometimes when opening a thread it will show in the address line - but there is a blank page or a "404 not found" message . . . Only after I refresh (F5) the page does it show up . . . Again not every thread or page and not every time . . . Just thought you might want to know . . .
