So wait, if I'm eating one of those cigarette shaped gums with the talc you can blow out, I can't use it in a non-smoking establishment because it is similar to a cigarette? I look at vaping in public as completely fine. I'm not going to blow giant cloud in someone's face but I don't feel the need to treat my personal vaporizer as a cigarette. Simply put it's not a cigarette. If the proprietor of a place is worried about people being stupid enough to confuse an LED lit device as a cigarette, I'll offer to stand up and loudly proclaim it's not a cigarette, and it's not smoke and it's not tobacco.
It's not my fault people don't like that it looks like I'm smoking and frankly, I don't care what they think, because I'm not smoking. The ban doesn't apply to personal vaporizers, and until it does I'll vape where ever. If some manager or owner wants to throw me out, so be it. I'll just take my patronage somewhere else. I'm not doing anything illegal.
To your first rediculous example: yes you can use the gum in a non-smoking area. Its gum, and it looks like gum. The gum does not have what appears to be a filter, and a long body that looks like tobacco rolled in paper, and it does not glow (in ANY color) at the end. Furthermore, talc does not have anywhere near the same effect when exhaled that vapor or smoke does.
Secondly, the fact that you do look at vaping in public as fine, is not the issue. We all believe, at some level, that it is fine. The issue is public perception.
Third, thats great if you dont feel the need to treat your PV as a cigarette. As I've said before, the public is doing that for you. So "simply put", it doesnt matter that its NOT a cigarette. See my first paragraph, and then couple that with what I just said about public perception.
Fourth, Its not about people being "stupid" enough to confuse anything. The first time I vaped in my office next to a co-worker (with blue tip), all she kept saying is "your smoking!"
You have to understand, the vapor looks SO similar to smoke, and people are not acustom to our PV's. So their COMMON SENSE, not STUPIDITY...dictates that if they see smoke (vapor), you must be smoking. Again my friend, perception.
Fifth, no its not your fault that it looks like smoking. And your right, you shouldnt care. Until it starts to have negative results. And I wonder, would you proudly vape on Trogs Screwdriver in front of a policeman, and then get all rightouse about how just because it looks like a marijuanna smoking device, it ISNT... and you dont care what the cop thinks, so stop bothering you!? I mean, what would you expect? It doesnt look like a cigarette, a cigar, or a pipe... there is "smoke" coming out of your mouth,
the officers common sense is going to dictate that he needs to question you about the device you are using. Perception.
Sixth, thats all well and good that if you get thrown out, you'll just go somewhere else. That could make for a long night, and a lot of unnessessary bar hopping.
Lastly, no you are not doing anything illegal. But your blatent rebellious attitude, of "I'll vape anywhere I please smoking ban be damned, until told not to!" may
very well add to PV's demise. Perception! Once PV's become more recognised in the public, people are going to start recalling their run-in's with vapers. And how "these people think they can use these things anywhere". Next thing you know, you'll be vaping at home because the owners of establishments will put up the "
NO VAPING" signs. And thats
THEIR right.
I have not seen one post anywhere that says, we should go where the smokers go when we vape. I am saying, just dont vape where the smokers cannot smoke, until the publics
PERCEPTION has changed. Your attitude is not helping to establish that change.
My best,
-VP
