OK, why the hole punch and bending over for 2 channels? Wouldn't a straight piece of straw, notched at the bottom, do the same thing and take up less room? Just wondering what you feel the extra steps add to the mod?

Adds a more stable strong platform for the plug to rest on so it wont fall in.

Have not counted the vapes yet but it seems to last forever. I get 12-14 large drops in it and that seems about the same about as i did before i added the straw which is wierd..

Besides.. seems like the extra fluid channels gives it a BIG Shotgun hit lol.. And it looks cool hehe j/k. ;)

Just want to add that i believe the top side edges of the straw where its at its highest peak actually allow air to flow in behind the slug.

Its got a rediculous hit!

How i use the shotgun slug.. I hit the button and wait about a second before taking a draw. I only need to hold that button for 2 seconds after that..and i'll continue to draw on it for a sec after letting off the button. I was using a regular wimpy 510 mega battery and damn was them some big hits over and over and over.. chain vapped and i felt the atty and it was only warm indicating its being fed good and not over heating as it would if it was runing lean on juice.

Huge clouds of smoke like it was a .... hit lol.. You would think it was 5-6 volts or something.

Plus that test was with a fresh 1/4 wide by about 3/4" long slug.. I normally use 3 16ths wide.. That extra 16th of an inch makes the slug a tight fit and it still was hittin strong.

Wish i would of tried the straw mod long ago as some of you were.

Hopefully sometime i'll get off my lazy but and count the vapes.. or see which one will last longer between the slug and the shotgun slug... hehe I'll wait for my 510 adaptor for the Xhaler first. Then i can have to long lasting batteries to use both the Xhaler and the Protege both runing new attys.

Before i went to bed late last night i tried using one of the joye 510 flat tip carts that has no inner lips. I used the exact same size straw and slug and it works the same as the regular round 510 cart.

Just cant line up the flat tip with the button on the battery end which sucks but for those of you that use "auto" batteries, no problem!

I do fine it ok to hold on a regular 510 manual batt.. using a mod with the flat tip will be too uncomfortable.

I'll try getting some carts for the 801 and some 901 attys and carts.

EDIT: Wait is there even a cart out there for a 801 or is it just a drip only atty?

Eclypse,
Okay I am trying this mod. Yesterday I was at Petsmart and found some of the blue foam plug. I washed and rinsed and then boiled it. When I tried it, it tasted bad and I couldnt taste any of my cotton candy ejuice. So, I washed, rinsed and boiled it again. Although this helped the weird taste I was getting a little bit, it still tastes funny and my cotton candy flavor is not coming though. Have you noticed any funny taste at all? if not, what are you cleaning yours with?

I will say, its some sturdy stuff and I am getting some massive vapor! The only thing I noticed is that I only need to add one drop to the top (or I get a mouthful). I'm using it on my 510 flat tip (which do have a ledge, its just not as pronounced as the round tips. I actually used a paperclip and ran it up the side of the cartridges to find out if it did have ledges).

?? Why boil it? Have you just tried regular mild hand soap? We have liquid hand soap and thats what i've used.. though seemed to clean better if it was already cut into thin strips. Washing a whole large sheet did no good as i could not wash it thoroughly enough.

Yeah, I initially used hand soap, but the taste was really bad...so I boiled the darn thing. I'll try doing it in smaller peices today. I was washing (and boiling) the whole sleeve. I know it sounds a little excessive, but it is just tasting so - weird.

? Only had a wierd taste at first but i think it was that i just didnt wash it good enough. I have not experianced it since as i've been cuttin slugs from the same stip i washed then.

Try a different atty as well as maybe its just a atty you let get too dry once and it has the burnt taste?

Are you lining up the cart right inside the atty? I remember tasting a plastic taste before one night while walking and it was cause i didnt have the cart lined up and the cart edge melted.. Was dark and could'nt see which i toped off the cart and reinsterted it. Thats when i noticed that you had to install the cart right or else get that plastic burnt taste.

Its not really even a burnt taste, more like a slight chemical taste. I have all my carts lined up right and I will try a different atty today and washing them in smaller strips. Thanks so much for all the wonderful directions and pic BTW. Other than the taste, I am really enjoying this mod. I tried the #1 of the mod in my whistle tips and it works great too and I use thin PG juice.

Hope it works out for ya.. maybe your soap is leaving something behind. If you find the same prob try just soaking the foam in a cup of water.. Maybe that will help remove the taste your seeing.

People have said to soak there attys in water over night after cleaning them helps remove the chemicals from the cleaning solution they use.. I've also noticed the same as i use Crest Pro Health Mouth Wash to clean my attys and what works best to get rid of the mouth wash is to just soak them in water for 12 hours and let them dry for 6 more hours and its all good. Just rinsing with water and drying did not get rid of the mouth wash taste.

You rock! I got my foam yesterday and tried this and OMG it is fantastic. Great taste, great vape, lasts a long time, and so simple. To refill, I just pull out the foam and re-fill. Haven't used it long enough to know if I need to go to the straw mod in your #3 version or if this will just remain a perfect solution to that icky burned taste and diminished taste with those other types of fiber filler. This is so easy and I have enough foam for at least 300 plugs.
By the way, I am using a 510 manual.

Glad you like.. If its working good for you then no reason to change it. If you get bored one day and try it out.. let me know what you think.

OK, I'm totally lost now. I've been using the first blue foam plug mod with consistent results (using nhaler HV liquid) for a while and haven't had a need to revisit any of these threads. I just got some new liquid that isn't quite as thick and find myself having to point my 510 down or up to get a decent hit depending on whether the last one was a burnt taste or gurgling.

Which one should I be using? The straw? The spring? The screen? Blue foam? Scotch Brite? I can't seem to find anything consistent and would really like for the search to be over.

Honestly... if you find a system that works really, really well for you... sometimes it's easier to adjust the viscosity of the fluid to match the system, than to adjust the system to match the viscosity.

Gotta tell you BriDog, with thinner juice, like TW's, I find that a strip of the blue foam about 5/16" wide by about 3/4" long, folded in half and stuffed in the end with nothing supporting it works fine. I have more trouble with thicker juices.

At this point, yours is the better design when using something to hold, imo. I'm still just using a top foam plug - winace style (see winace's post) - and it's working. I have low bridge attys and they don't push it down too far and the rest of the chamber is all juice.

Another ploy to keep the foam in place so it doesn't get pushed down and doesn't get snatched up by the metal mesh would be to use a spring horizontally and 'sew' (by just turning the end of the spring into) the bottom of the foam.

Obviously try the slug.. If thats working for you then off you go. If it seems to be runing dry then maybe the straw will keep it from falling in and not make it air tight so it will wick.
