Well, they are continuing with the rotating strikes for now, but the CBC thinks it'll just go to a full-on strike. Management has an offer on the table, but no one's talking right now. :(

Postal union may escalate to nationwide strike - Canada - CBC News

Funny, I think I'm still fine with the idea of a union and the right to strike if they don't like the offer. That's the flip-side of being unionized: you have to put up with a lot of silliness until both sides come to an agreement. Is the union unhappy about lower starting wages because it means lower union dues from new hires? Is banking sick days reasonable? Etc, etc.

It's just costly for all of us waiting until some kind of resolution comes to pass. :(

Classic. I remember when I was still unionized in Toronto, and the membership refused to carry anything over 23lbs because they were not trained how to LIFT PROPERLY!!

Lifting 23lbs once isn't an issue, but personally I wouldn't want to carry 23lbs around all day, every day. Sure there are harder jobs out there and people doing them, but I'll admit I wouldn't want to carry that much around. Thats more than a case of beer. ;)

Furthermore, the union is just angry that modernization is elimintaing some jobs. It has virtually NOTHING to do with safety, of that you can be assured. They have manufactured some bogus excuses to put a wrench in the plans, that's all.

You must remember machines don't buy products and services. Put someone out of work to a machine, and that is one less person buying your products and services or the products and services of the company you work for.

The end result may be you are out of work too.

Just something to consider. Every coin has two sides. :toast:

Excerpt from Canada Post Customer Information Hub:

In the coming days, Canada Post will implement the following measures:

    * Staffing levels at mail processing plants across the country will be reduced to adjust to the reduction in mail volumes at each facility.
    * Letters and Admail will be delivered three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) in mostly urban areas where delivery is performed by letter carriers.
    * Most small packages and documents will also be delivered three days a week. Every effort will be made to continue to deliver priority items five days a week.

So strike or no strike, expect mail delivery to be much slower and painfull :(

on a good note, i received my orders from madvapes and also my Prodigy V3, so now no more worries that i go back to analog, i got enough supplies to last until me REO gets here !!!

It already takes four to five days for a letter mailed in my town to go across the street. Thanks to CP's smart idea to send everything out to be presorted to London Ontario first. I think I will continue to pick up my paycheck until they get it sorted out.

On a more positive note I got a nice email today :

    Dear Customer,

We are pleased to announce that JuicyClear is once again open and taking orders. We have found that the postal strike has done little or nothing to slow down our commercial orders so we feel confident in taking private orders again. As a way of saying thank you we would like to give you a 10% off discount that will work from now until Monday. Please use the coupon code “taketen” to receive this deductions when using the check out.

    Cheers

So, Quebec City and Kitchener today. Red Deer over the weekend.

Canada Post is cutting service to 3 days a week starting Monday.

According to Canada Post, the union has hurt the business by striking. And so, it's unreasonable for the union to expect all of their demands in the face of recent declining volumes. They were declining for some time, but news of escalating strikes has furthered the decline. Strikes caused by not coming to an agreement on wages and working conditions seven months prior and up to now.

So now Canada Post wants to use the strikes as further arguments for cutting back on wages and benefits. FTW

And Canada Post locked out its workers Tuesday evening. Rather than endure prolonged rotating strikes that have apparently cost them $100 million, they're apparently trying to force the government to push back-to-work legislation. They will apparently try to deliver social assistance cheques on June 20, but the rest of us are screwed.

    from that article:
Rural carriers are still on the job so those in rural areas can expect to receive mail for another couple of days.

I hope this means that my Health Cabin order sitting in winnipeg will be delivered to me out in the boonies tomorrow!!!

Well, for the first time since the strike, in my little town of 400 people, the postal lady would not take my package. I was sending somthing to Alberta to a friend from ECF..and they said unfortunately they are on strike now. Which they weren't all week. She said hopefully tomorrow they will take packages. She said that she heard the govt is stepping in and going to demand the workers go back to work, which they have 48 hours to do so apparently. UGH. Piss me off!
