Having issues with "dry hits" now. Not sure if i can attribute it to the smaller coils burning juice faster or if it has to do with me changing my battery. (started with an MNKE on this build and just popped in an AW) Things kinda seem wonky now. very dry hits but not burnt cotton. Wicking issues maybe? I dunno, gotta tear it down when i get home from work and fix it.

iTEO, you are the man. Thanks so much for sharing your build. I set this up on my RSST and my IGO-W. After a few attempts I feel my IGO-W performance is OK, it seems to give me a burnt hit at like the third vape. Im going to have to toy with it some more, I think it has to do with the bedding of the cotton. I might have to use less or more, not sure yet.

As for my RSST, on my first attempt it hits like a CHAMP. I will try to share some pictures with everyone later to help those who may be still struggling a bit. Thanks again iTEO for sharing this!

Any tips on the IGO-W Build are welcome, I'm sure picture later will help :)

I'm having the same kind of issue with my nimbus. Except it's when I take longer hits. If I take a quick 1 or 2 second hit it's fine but anything longer and it's dry and tastes bad. I'm trying to figure it out but I'm at work without supplies or tools! Bummer.

sahilm, Here is my latest method, works great. I use a Drill, you can use either a JUMBO Paper clip, or a 1/16 drill bit. Both are fine. Put one end of the Kanthal into the female end of the drill along with the clip or bit, so the wire is tight with the bit in the drill. Hold the wire tight, and slowly pull the drill trigger until your desired wrap amount. You can even go a wrap or two over, and then pull the extra wraps off at the end to make sure its nice and tight. Pull the wire off, put it between some tweezers, and butane torch it.

I can wrap them by hand as well, but I find the drill to work much more consistently.

While this isnt a "Wick coil" this video shows the principle of it.

Coiling Wire on a Drill - Beaducation.com - YouTube

Hope this helps sir.

I figured it out. Best thing to do is just experiment with different wicking but here's what I did. I grabbed a bit of cotton and fluffed it up so it was loose and made a U shape. I put this in so the coil rests in the U kind of. I then kind of just stuffed the rest of the cotton into the well. I wrapped my coils in cotton before and it wasn't good. This seems to work well now. Huge clouds and the flavor is spot on.

When I experienced dry hits on my build, it was because I didn't have enough cotton. to much she floods not enough she can't wick enough, just right and, commencing count down engine's on. lol she rocks!! On all builds it's a matter of finding the right consistency, amount and density of cotton. Mine needs fairly dense rolled cotton wrapped around the coil of just the right thickness. Others need a fluffy pillow. Just need to play with it. Fortunately cotton is cheap and can get like 10 wicks or so off of one ball. lmao.

finally got my 28 gauge kenthal in.

built my first one on a igo-l. 10 wraps. i tried the single venting "dragon" with no luck. i couldnt keep from drowning the coil or i would end up getting maybe one good vape before it dried. after mucking around with cotton i now have an awesome dual dragon going. this setup kicks .... even on a 1/2 dead battery. i see what you guys mean about the nic levels haha.

thanks Iteo and everyone else for the R&D!

Thanks for the pic Crazy, I'll have to give this a try when I get home later to see if I get some better results. Just to clarify, you have the coils resting on the bed? No loose strands over the top of the coil to help it from overheating ya?

That is correct. I found that when I layed cotton over the top those pieces would dry out too quick. And I'd end up burning the cotton. I was skeptical at first when I removed it and only put cotton underneath but it Vapes like a champ. Hardly heats up all even at .4 ohms these coils are amazing.

iTEO, just wanted to say thank you! I went and got two Igo-l's, 28 gage Kanthal, some cotton balls, and a Magneto 1939 mod. Made one Nano Dragon Coil at 1.0ohms and another at 0.8. These things are ridiculously awesome! Best flavor and insane vapor production! This makes vaping so much more enjoyable to me! I'm gonna have to cut down my nic. though, I think. Doing this with 24mg juice really packs a punch! Haha, I practically vaped myself into a coma yesterday. Good times. Thanks again!

Just finished this for the people that I joined with on a group buy of the Rocket rba. Believe this is the same way Cyrus does his, at least its my interoperation of our vape effort. Figured since I went to all the effort to figure how to post this, I'd share it with the group that inspired the creation of the Volcanic Dragon Vertical Build. If you figure out a better way or an improvement let us know. Thanks again Iteo, Cyrus and Jeremy and all the other dragon slayers.

this is shot of my vertical mounted coil:

Note that the top hole and bottom hole of the coil are not covered allowing air to rush through the middle producing good vape. Also to much cotton and it will over wick and fill the whole chamber with juice, to little cotton and she's a bit warm, get pre-burned taste similar to what you get before she's totally dry. Just right and this baby wicks like crazy, can cook it at 15 watts for very juicy thick vape, and not to hot, just nice and warm. Of course depending on the flavor sometimes is bring it down to 14.5 watts to find it's sweet spot. I now have 3 tanks set up with the Volcanic Dragon Build, 1 Russian and 2 rockets. My last 2 builds used 28awg with 10 wraps around a medium large paper clip measuring 1.8+1.9 ohms. Can crank them up to just over 15.2 watts before my Provari gives me an E2 error. Fraking awesome Vape.!!!

not sure on the Russian but in the k-lite I have done this vertical coil a number of times in the past few weeks, all with various diameters, wire gauges and resistances, also with various amounts of cotton, in the end I didn't see any real differences to a standard horizontal micro coil. dragon coil? so one puts a different name on it and thinks its something new?

If you don't have to more air flow you will always be limited to similar production. The dragon is different - a bedded nano, the vertical carto style coil is different. Your air flow is the limiting falctor... Of course a standard micro is easier

are you saying the carto coil works well in the Russian and not the k-lite because it has adjustable airflow ? I know about a bedded micro and have done a vid on it, the bedded micro has been around in the micro coil thread for a while and was just wondering why someone has changed the name now to a dragon.

No need to be toxic, if this build is working for some.. myself included, why the need to be condescending about it just because you have used something similar before with different results? We are just a community of people who are looking to help one another, which iTEO has done IMO.
