I thought the concept behind nano and micro coils at least was to partly to lessen the risks associated in sub ohm?? So why build and go sub ohm anyway?? Sorry, not for me:2cool:

Nano/Micro-Coils make the heating element (your coil) more efficient, with micro and nano-coils hotspots are almost non-existent which leads to a much more consistent and better performing coil. Because the coil is more efficient, if it is wicked properly and given the right air flow it can provide a fantastic vape which is generally considered to to on par with sub-ohm builds. However as long as you are within the safety ratings for your device, your battery, and you have a reasonable coil size (you aren't pushing 20A through a 1 inch piece of 28 gauge kanthal), sub-ohm vaping is not dangerous. The reason it is frowned upon is because the lower you get in resistance the less coil you have to distribute the power and at some point that will case problems, even earlier so if something in the whole setup is not built or being used properly.

great post man, thank you. so the way you have it set up here it looks like it would just vent through side, the other side looks buried?

and I'm guessing you position your airhole here:

This is actually the build on my 1st original video on my opening post which I re-oriented the coil. I positioned my intake hole on the coil itself, middle. I angled it for a purpose, it's about 45 degrees, this orientation will give me a warmer than average vaping experience. My nimbus is set horizontally for a normal cooler vapor.

I had trouble getting this going again yesterday because of the cotton wrap. Finding the just right amount is a PITA, also getting it to stay put is difficult for me too. Did you notice you have to leave the lower wraps free to avoid flooding? The smaller diameter coil is probably more prone to flooding. Hopefully we can figure out a foolproof and reproducible way to set this up. I finally got it going again but man the second time it took a long time!

Cyrus,

Think I found the trick to solve your wick problems. Came to me as I was on my way to deal some dice. I re-wicked my Volcanic Dragon, but was getting some flooding, and it came to me, don't totally surround the coil with gauze.!!! I just got home and took like a 1"x1/4" strip of fluffy pre-boiled cotton ball, using some pointy tip tweezers, place one end of the cotton down it the juice deck, then gently wrapped around the back side of the coil and placed the other side of the cotton into the opposite juice deck, leaving the negative terminal side of the coil open. I use the positive terminal for the bottom lead, so as not to risk a short, and the top lead triangles down to the negative terminal.

I guess you can't gag the dragon and expect it to blow it's breath without it spitting and sputtering. lol Don't choke the monk, I mean don't choke the dragon!! lol Give it a try, think you'll like it. I also use the mounting holes and not under the screw head to attach my leads. Feel this gives me more control when mounting the coil. Was so excited to try this that I forgot to measure my distance of coil above air intake, oh well, one thing at a time. We will work the bugs out and fine tune soon.

Vape On!

Vape the World!!!

P.S. Getting much better air flow too, draw not so tight, now I can use the air adjust screw to tighten it up if needed.

I agree dice.. Its odd but my oddy with vertical volcano started putting out better and flavor improved.. When I opened it up to ck on refill only a little more than half my coil was covered with cotton wrap. There was only a little strand around the one side. The wierd thing is if you don't have good contact on a standard build when your wicking through the coil you get burn taste. But with this build the exposed coils don't give a burnt taste. It's really backwards from the normal thinking. Wierd... But it's working great so I'm not going to touch.

Completely surrounded didn't seem near as good to me.

( while this isn't a dragon build it is a variant adapted to the oddy clone. Based on iteo's build style)

dice, jeremy, thanks guys, that all makes sense. I think on my first build it worked best when I cleared the lower coils entirely, which was difficult to pull of. If you gents are so inclined pics would be great! I'm going on vacation for two days or so so I won't be building at the moment, but I'll get on this when I return.

Dice, I'm very new to the Russian91 so I have to ask, mounting holes? LOL. Where? (I forget are you using a K-lite or Russian?)

EDIT: I see from your previous post we're both talking about the Russian. Mounting holes? Damn I'm in the dark!

Tutorials man, tutorials! You don't even have to make a video. Just take photos of the steps. I want those clouds so badly lol

Have you tried the Tin Man coil that Rip Trippers did? I'm going to start with that since it isn't sub-ohm and seems to chuck so much vapor. I ordered a Trident clone as well so there will be no need to fiddle with airholes. Plenty of airhole options with the Trident. Plus the one I ordered looks so dang cool. Gold plated on stainless... rockstar!

Cyrus,

Yes, I have the full blown Russian, 100% I guess you could say. On the positive and negative post blocks, that the screws go into, look half way down the sides and you'll see that there are small holes that go through the mounting post blocks. Back out your screw far enough and the lead wires will pass right through the holes. Then you can tighten the screws down on top of the wire, then just snip off the extra that sticks out flush with the other side. Pretty sure the 91% has this feature too. Works like a cable clamp. I like it because there is less pull on the wire when you tighten the screw. Just have to be careful to not over tighten the screw, because it will cut right through the wire if you torque it to hard.

I'll try to take some picks once I find batteries for my camera. lol. Have a Vapetastic Vapecation!!! ttyl.

Links man, links!! Don't you have the link to the "Tin Man Coil"???!!!

lol. Any who, these nano Dragon coils are not sub ohm, they can be if so desired, I'm rock'n' on all builds I've tried any where from 1ohm to 2.3ohm. The Dragon build is basically a micro coil build with the cotton going around the coil or laying under the coil, depending on what rba you use. It's kind of in the ground floor stage. I've done both a vertical and horizontal build. All the basics are in this thread, enough to get you going. We are all just tying to help each other out. My Provari won't fire anything less than .8ohms so I try to aim for 1.1-1.3ohms. 2.9volts is as low as she goes. If you have specific questions about a particular rba, let us know and if anyone has done a build on that rba, they will help out. but the basics are as follows:

!) Wrap your wire of choice tightly around something really small and round for 10-15 wraps to get the desired ohm rating you are aiming for. I've used a 1/16" drill bit and a paper clip, some use a pin, nail or 3/64" bit.

2) Mount your coil at a height and distance so that a cotton bed or wrap can be placed under and or around it, depending on your rba. Mount coil at the height of the air intake or slightly above it if you have an rba that's air comes in from the bottom. again, depends on your rba.

3) check the ohm's of your build, if your mod doesn't have an ohm meter, check the ohm's with a meter before mounting. Set your volts or watts for you build. Fire her up, All glowing nice and red hot? Great, next step.

4) place cotton below or around the coil making sure not to cover the end holes of the coil and have the tails go to your source of liquid so that it can wick, again, this depends on you specific rba. Don't use to much cotton, leave it fluffy, don't compact.

5) Saturate you cotton with juice of choice. Fire it up. See vape? Good, assemble and fill and enjoy!! Don't see vape?? Bummer dude, something is wrong. Play with it till it works. Once it works, play with it till it works better. Try more or less cotton, try slightly tilting your coil. Frustrated, ask here and let someone know.

So you see, it's basically the same steps you'd go through with any build you'd do. Each little thing you do can change the dynamics of your vape. Good luck, and vape on!!

Great to see you guys getting the hang of it. Improvise as there is always room for improvement.

Anyway, here's a preview of my new build in beta form for genny style atomizers. This also utilizes the dragon coil :vapor:

Iteo,

Thanks again for this idea. Just finished the dragon on my I-Atty genesis. Didn't have any cable so I used some 400 SS mesh, with the cotton down the center, and the tail of the cotton wrapped around the Dragon. I didn't oxidize the SS, trimmed the SS so that it was just lower than the coil, with the cotton coming out of the center. Still needs some fine tuning, but on my first try it's vaping better than I could get the straight genesis build to vape. Almost as good as my Volcanic Dragon build on the Russian. Still want to try a smaller diameter coil on the next volcanic dragon build, but it is hitting so good now, don't want to mess with it till I have to. lol..Getting low on wire, and don't want to buy any till I figure out wich gage I'm ultimately going to go with.

Thanks so much. This really rocks on the Kayfun style rba. Really like the ease it is to replace wick and dry burn, when the dragon needs tending. Heck, it takes longer to tear the Russian down than it does to replace the wick. lol.

Cyrus,

Thanks muchly for giving the clues on how to apply this to the Russian. Would of taken me much longer to think of the vertical mounting with out you insight. I was thinking of 2 side coils, one above each juice deck. Your method is much simpler, and easier to build and re-wick. I may yet try the dual coil idea, but may be to crowded, doable I think with two 5-6 wrapped nano's. Will have to think on that some more, Thinking the bottom of the coils would have to be level with the center air intake, At least it would be easy to adjust the height up and down a millimeter by slight bend of the wires, and you'd have a tad bit of play on the length of the leads when using the mounting holes.... Damit, Now I'm goint to have to try it. Oh well, will have to sleep on it.

Set up my first vertical-mount nano in a Cyclone bottom-feeder (Gepetto mini).

Not bad results, not cloud-chucking either.

The setup is 32ga Kanthal (all I have at the moment) 5-wrap. Damn fiddly workspace on a Cyclone deck - very hard to get a placement that feels like the coil won't touch the cap.
Nice sterilized cotton bed - didn't seem too much or too little. Top of the coil tower open to air.

I'd appreciate advice on improving the performance in a bottom-feed like the Cyclone. :)

Thanks dice! For some reason I only have that alternate whole on the negative? Seems pics online show the same thing. I've seen another unit fully disassembled also and the same deal, just one alternate hole on the negative. .... Lol. I'll ask Round the Russian thread ...

Bummer man, I really like using them. They'll come in handy if and when I try to dual coil the Russian. When I used to do the figure 8 build, they were great, Just line up the bottom of the coil tangent to the outside of the juice deck, tighten, and bend build up and over the air intake. Oh well, ancient history, that was like a whole week ago, when I got my major clues from YouTube. lol. Oh how time flies!! Wonder what is going to be the latest and greatest next week? Hmm, Hmmm, thinking something to do with a singularity warp core coil. Will call it "The Romulan" maybe have a optional cloaking devise for that ultimate Stealth Vape. Will have to figure out how to cover the trace vape trail though. Oh well, save that for next month I guess.

Oh well, Vappy Vapecation Cyrus.:vapor::evil:
