Here is my first section of safety rail for the driveway. A grapevine on wires is behind it. I'm thinking about painting this white. Also, I think a second rail underneath the top rail would look good.

Here is our finished water feature "The Sluicebox". I'll be adding more rocks and moving a few plants when I have the time and energy

This is part of the hedge I created three springs ago around the veggie garden. As you can see, it has really grown in nicely and is providing some protection from the high winds we get here.

This is one of our crabapple trees blooming.

I'm baaaaaack !!!!! Ok, now I will tell you about the Flying Dog. Remember, this is not a Casper the friendly ghost story.

The Flying Dog:

I was walking in the woods, with a friend and on the same trail and in the same area, where I had heard the ghost chickens. My friend's dog was with us. It was a German Shepherd mix and weighed about 100 pounds. It was an extremely friendly dog, never barked or growled and loved everyone and everything.

Suddenly, we saw a small bush start to violently shake, the bush was about 25 feet from where we were and near the back of the chicken coop. It caught our attention, as it was a calm summer day, with not so much as a breeze. As we stared at the bush, wondering what the heck was causing in to shake, the dog began growling and charged at the bush. The dog went behind the bush and a second later, it came back out....in the air and backwards. It was about 3 or 4 feet in the air, as if it had been thrown. Now remember, this wasn't a toy poodle, it was a good sized dog and it would have taken a large and very strong person, to throw a dog of it's size. Plus, the bush wasn't large enough for a human being to hide behind. Back to the story....it did a couple of somersaults in the air, landed on the ground and took off running for home. We were right behind it. After what we had just witnessed, we weren't going to stick around there.

When we got back to my friends house, we found the dog cowering in a corner and shaking like a leaf. It stayed that way for several hours.

8-o Ohmygosh Jerry! That was truly scary.

Hi Princess. I will tell you this much, that happened when I was 13 or 14. I'm 64 now and I still walk on that trail, but I have never gone near where that bush was and I never will.

I don't blame you Papa. I have one I'll share if that is okay with everyone.

When we first moved in this house my oldest son was only 3 months old. I started seeing something in my peripheral vision but when I turned my head it would be gone. I told my grandmother about it and she told me to look forward but focus on my peripheral vision when it returned to get a better look.

I did this the next time it came. I got a better look but I also got scared because it was a woman indian dark almost black and white image and her focus was watching over my son. I turned my head and she disappeared. I once again told my grandmother and described the woman to her. She then went and retrieved a picture of her grandmother, a full blooded creek indian. This is the woman I had been seeing.

Grandmother then told me the legend of her grandmother. Her grandmother had lost 2 or 3 babies to crib death and when she died she vowed that her children would never know that pain and that she would also look over her grandchildren. She told me the next time I saw her not to turn my head but to say "Thank you for watching over your grandson" I did as she asked and when I spoke the image of my grandmother grew warmer appeared in more color and I could feel love. I stopped seeing her after my 2nd son was a year old.

Argh!!!! 32 degrees out there and the sun isn't quite up yet. I certainly hope my trees are okay. I'll have to survey my queendom later. I'm debating whether or not to start a fire in the woodstove. I have a list of projects to work on but the most important is to get Nevada measured so I can order his harness. When Hubby gets home tonight, he is going to help me.

I sure felt sorry for that dog, Jer. What a scary story.

It got down to 32 degrees here last night too, and I was really worried about my green babies. I was almost afraid to go out and see them, but they all weathered the weather, and are doing fine.

Hi Jerry and Evie. I'm doing much, much better ( Thank you ), and glad to be able to get out of bed and out into the woods today.

Since I was outta commission on Sunday and Monday, I didn't post my photos from Saturday. I did take a few photographs before the Hug hit. Nuthin' to write home about, but you folks might enjoy them:

Another look at that 30' sinkhole. The BF estimates that it's about 15' deep. The rope is for anyone to hold onto should they plan to go down in there for some crazy reason that I can't even imagine.



The mayapples have popped up - almost overnight.



In preparation for this year's batch of poachers. The area behind the cemetery is a common point of ingress, so we put this up over the weekend.



And this - just in case:



Watching the sun going down on the opposite side of the creek. I was struck by the lighting.



This is a natural rock dam. When the creek floods, huge slabs of limestone are peeled away from its edge one by one over the ages.

For those of you that worry about me camping out in the woods by myself, this is a view from my campsite. If you look behind and to the left of the walnut tree - that's my house on the skyline overlooking the ravine.

Well I'm waiting for my youngest son to get home from school. I texted that I was headed to the woods and he asked me to wait and let him go with me. He wants to show me an easier trail to take to the creek. So I'll wait and it will be fun for us both.

As if I hadn't already posted enough pics, these are a few that I took today of a rare visitor. I've never even seen a parula warbler before, so I thought he was pretty cool. He really is a beautiful creature.

I know, I know. My deck needs to be resurfaced. That little task is slated for this summer. But first, I have to scrape all of the old stuff off.
