Thanks for reminding me that I need to refill the hummingbird feeders. I've been somewhat distracted. ;) Yep - hummingbird wars are crazy to watch. Just curious (because we only have one species East of the Mississippi): Do your hummers only attack within their own species?

Stay cool everyone!!

Fishing would be fun!!!

Waiting to get stuff done with house buying is the norm!!!

We actually have a lot more action now that the rufous hummers have showed up. Hubby was reading up on the hummers and the rufous hummers are already heading south.

We noticed that we have black chins in the late spring. They are obviously nesting and displaying and such. They do squabble a bit.

In late July, we have other hummers show up. They are much more aggressive about the feeders and try to guard them. Now the hummingbird wars are on!!!!! Zooming and sneaky attempts by the black chins to zip in and get something to drink before they are found out and driven off again.

Now we have lots of hummers in the yard whereas before we had maybe 3-5.

Very nice, Sandy!

The Washingtonians, BF, and I were out and about all day yesterday. First we showed Cataract Falls off. Off course, it was Sunday, so it was much too inhabited for our liking. The volume coming over the edge was diminished from when I was there last, but it was still beautiful. We then tried fishing locally, but had no action other than minnows pushing our bobbers around for sport. So we headed off toward home and closer to home, we tried Cecil B. Hardin lake (Raccoon Lake). There, the BF and Terry caught a nice array of lovely catfish and one bluegill. All were released. I got skunked!! It didn't bother me though. As long as someone is catching, I enjoy fishing. The ambiance wasn't nearly as pretty as our former fishing spot, but there was a lot more action. The day for me was mostly spent trying to achieve a modicum of skill with a bait caster. I'd never used that type of reel before, and it was far different from anything I'd previously used. A great deal of time was spent clearing tangles off of the bale. Finally - I was able to cast out nearly all the way to Canada with nary a stray strand on my reel. :D

On a side note: Squeezles, my ailing glider is doing so well that she's racing and leaping all over the cage like a monkey on a sugar high. I think that it's a case of feeling really, really good after feeling the opposite for so long.

Hello, good night. In case you've wondered where I've been, yesterday, I photographed a wedding, and today, the hoof trimmer came in the morning, so I was at the barn, and I spent the rest of the day fiddling with wedding photos and e-mailing them to the bride. So here's one.

Nice!

On a side note, I like her dress.

Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

It's nice that Squeezles is doing so well.

It rained and rained yesterday. It was so amazing. It was cloudy for quite awhile in the morning. Of course, I enjoyed that as it was cooler and the sun was not baking us when we were outside. Hubby and I got our new hammock put together. I saw it at the grocery store for half price and it looked pretty sturdy. Also, it folds up so I think I can store it in the wooden shed for the winter.

I pulled a few weeds for the goats. The sun came out and I decide I was done. I closed the windows. I closed the shutters on the house. I turned on the AC and the outside temp rapidly went up to 93 degrees. About 2pm, Hubby came back in the house. Too windy and there's lightning so he was quitting his work on the truck.

We were in a down draft. The trees in the backyard were getting smashed by the wind. A little bit of lightning and then it started raining. And it kept on raining pretty hard for hours. I caught a break and ran out to open the shutter on the den window so we could watch the weather and the hummingbird feeder.

The hummers were a flurry of activity due to the rain. They all wanted to drink from the feeders. At least 4 hummers were out front, each one trying to keep the feeder to itself. Lots of "thrip, thrip" noises as they were shouting at one another.

I looked out the sliding doors to the back sugar water feeder. There was a tornado of hummers, circling one another and the feeder. Just amazing. At least five hummers back there all vying for ownership of the feeder. In fact, there is at least ten hummers at the back feeder this morning. Incredible!!!!

The wind slowed down about five pm but the rain just kept falling. I finally went out and fed the horses and the goats in the rain. Fortunately, the new feeders are up so I was able to throw hay fast into the stall feeders. The goats were not coming out into the rain to eat but I threw them some alfalfa anyway.

The rain finally stopped for a bit but then started again. And kept up for several more hours. I don't have any idea how much rain actually fell but the storm was incredible.

This morning, the air is cool and lovely as the sun paints the underside of the clouds orange and then turns to gold. It is supposed to be cooler today, perhaps the high eighties. I have to clean a house for a couple of hours and then head into town for some shopping.

I'm wondering how the wedding photo shoot went, sandysu. Was it hard, fun?

Terry, I'm waiting on your paperwork update.

Evie, how have you been feeling?

I dislike fishing as I am constantly tangled;-)

How is everybody doing? How are the projects going awsum?

Celt, are you surviving grandma?

Zero, are getting your book and your sewing done?

Lizzie, the wedding was fun, though tiring by the end. I don't know how the bride & groom still managed to dance at the end! I just had to stand or sit or move from one corner of the room to the other to get shots, not dance my little heart out! Of course, they are less than half my age. Maybe that had something to do with it.

The wedding took place in a nice little town called Skaneateles (pronounced Skinny-atlas) about 1 1/2 hours away from my house. None of the participants came from that area, but the couple found a lovely place that wasn't booked up already at a price that was right. The wedding ceremony was in a park across the street from the hotel, where there was a gazebo. Lots of photo ops by the lake. We were lucky with the weather. It was overcast but didn't rain, so it was comfortably cool, and I can take better photos in that kind of light than in burning bright sunlight, anyway.

It was a really nice wedding with everyone being peaceful yet lively. Lots of dancing after dinner. It was a really nice crowd of people, a lovely, informal wedding ceremony and reception, and just plain lots of fun.

Lizzie, I am going to stop sewing for a while. My right thumb is bothering me again.

I had a delightful conversation with Uncle yesterday. We discussed the directions I can go with my new additions, and I talk with a friend on Wednesday for some more information.

Right now I am tending to my shower. I caulked around the bottom yesterday and today, and I have to keep it dry while the caulk cures. That is near impossible, but I am doing the best I can. I made a tube with garbage bags to catch the drips from the showerhead. The water then goes through a transmission fluid funnel, directly into the drain. Plus I have washcloths tied to a leaky pipe.

Betweentimes, I am reading.

Good morning Rave. Bait casting reels can be challenging. I usually use those for salt water but much prefer spinners for fresh. The only I'm going to release a catfish is into hot grease lol. My favorite fresh water fish. Sure glad to here Squeezles is doing well now.

Wuzz - ordinarily, I wouldn't be so quick to release the kitty fish either, but I didn't much feel like dressing the fish out with company to spend quality time with. We got home pretty late from our excursion, and I was too lazy to mess with it.

Your descriptions make your place and the goings-on there really come to life. Love that! :)

The offer on Terry's choice of a home has been extended. Now, we're waiting for a counter offer (probably). The suspense is intense!!

Sitting down, facing forward.
Terry, I hope your offer gets accepted or that you can at least come to a successful negotiation! Catfish, pan fried, is a great way to enjoy fish!

Sandy, I shot a wedding, years ago, and it is a lot of work. On the other hand there are a few perks that go with it, LOL.

Been fairly busy and still haven't gotten the camera out to take that photo of the head end of the drip system. The bottom end is basically covered with mulch, except for the heads, to nothing to see there...move along. We've been enjoying lots of fresh blueberries and I picked about five pounds each of wax beans and green beans today. The cucumbers are starting to come in and we already have more than we can eat, so the excess will go to some of Mrs. Awsum's co-workers.

The squash plant is the biggest squash plant I've ever seen. It's got to be about five feet in diameter and a couple of feet tall. Now, if it'll only produce fruit! I guess that's what happens when you fertilize regularly.

Ever see "Little Shop of Horrors"?

"Feed me. I'm HUNGRY!!" My siblings and I used to phone each other to any sightings of the original version of "Little Shop of Horrors" on TV. It's one of those movies that's just so bad that it's great. That combination always tickles me. I love that Jack Nicholson made what I believe was his debut appearance as a masochist. He was perfect of the role. I now own the movie, and it still makes me smile.

Lovely rose, Sandy. :)

Still haven't heard anything about the house offer. It's killin' me! I can only imagine how Terry feels.

I can't believe the run of good weather that we've had for her visit. Not a single rain. She would like to see a storm here though because she loves thunderstorms too, and doesn't get them in Washington. She may get her wish today. We have a 50% chance. My green things would appreciate a drink. I'm so jealous of the produce that Lizzie and Awsum and harvesting now. I got nuthin'. But then, I planted next to nuthin'. I may very well have sugar snap peas, but if I do, they are growing in a tangle of weeds. Everyone has been too busy with work and projects to mow the septic field. It doesn't matter. That'll get taken care of eventually.

A certain Voltville denizen just made a face at me in one of my security cameras!!

Your squash sounds huge. What kind of squash plant is it? We are getting cukes and just started getting purple string beans and yellow wax beans. There is a bunny in the yard. He is an adorable cottontail but I wish the dogs wold catch it since it has a fondness for bean plants and he is a gourmet rabbit. He is mostly eating the fillet bean plants. I love fillet beans.

"Feed me." ha ha ha. Sp funny.

Hope you get some news soon!!!! Terry.

I am resting up today for my big cleaning job tomorrow. Fortunately, it is nice and cool out this morning with lots of clouds so I can get the strawberries and produce picked early and then hang out and do nothing.

My arms are so tired and they just can't get a break from doing stuff this time of year so I hated to say yes to extra cleaning but she is a regular client and I can use the money to buy two dog houses for the two new dogs. I found a good deal online but now I have to call and see if they are available in the store since it says store only. If they don't have them, I will see if they can order them since the price is awesome. They are igloo style with tunnel to one side and an adjustable vent in the roof. They are structural foam so they should be pretty warm in the winter.
