Sitting down, facing forward.
Tritium, get off those stupid ("a", dollar sign, dollar sign) energy drinks! You're way too young to have high blood pressure. I know you eat a good diet, what we call the Mediterranean Diet, but watch the salt. Remember monosodiumglutimate is just another fancy way of saying "tons of salt", and that goes for Chinese food, notorious for the stuff to enhance flavors. I can't tell anyone to stop coffee, I can't live without mine and don't see how anyone can live without a least one strong cup in the morning. I know you get enough exercise and you weren't heavy to begin with, so that high BP has to be coming from something and energy drinks are a pretty good suspect.

Where'd you get that belt? I broke one, a cheapy, when I had Bo's leash clipped to the belt and he bolted after a squirrel. Almost took me down, but I'm still pretty fast to recover balance, maybe from lots of ice skating when I was a little younger.

Hey Roland! :)
It's the kind of belt police officers use for their equipment, i use that because it allows me to lift weights better and i can hang tools, when climbing i used to secure a few tools on it. Very strong and tough (rare for Chinese stuff). I got it from the local commando/rambo supply shop lol. You can find it online i guess Pentagon Tactical Duty Series Police Belt 2.0 --- EE33 Tactical Outfitters Pentagon police belt.

We don't use monosodium glutamate here at all (you are going to be lucky if you find chinese or asian food here). I used to eat a LOT of salt i started reducing now, i'll probably go to ice tea for drinks, don't know yet, might have to visit a doctor and i hate it.

Here's hoping you can get the blood pressure down through some diet changes. You get lots of exercise, right? And you drink lots of water? It sounds like those are things that'll reduce it, too.

I think the nurse practitioner is just trying to fend off a stroke or heart attack till his regular doctor can see him. Then she will probably prescribe something more potent.

Poor Bill! He is worried, of course, but I don't think he is really ready to give up all the things he loves: coffee, smoking, and salt. Maybe salt will be the easiest for him, but it might mean not eating the Chinese food at the restaurant. I'll talk to the mother of the kids, who works there, of course, and see if when she feeds Bill, she can eliminate some salt. Maybe they could even put stuff on their menu with the little heart next to the item, meaning it's heart-healthy. I've seen that in restaurants. I bet she doesn't even know about it, since she probably has never been to another restaurant in her life, well, maybe another Chinese restaurant when she goes to NYC.
Sandy, he can WEAN off the stuff that he loves, not cut it out cold turkey, which is never pleasant. The sodium in Chinese food is in the sauces (soy, oyster, hoysun, etc.), so if they left it out or used less for his, he could still have some. There are low sodium versions of those sauces as well (though they're still pretty high in sodium). The deceptive thing about Chinese food is that, although it's high in sodium, it doesn't taste salty - it's in the sauces as a preservative without the tasty cloride part of salt - so it probably wouldn't be that different. Then he could bring his own condiments (Lite Salt, Mrs. Dash...) to jazz it up.

Coffee would be kinda tough, since he works such long hours - maybe try smaller cups fewer times a day? And why isn't he vaping?

I personally never responded well to "being ganged up on" by my mother and her nurse/doctor friends, even if they did mean well. But he needs to realize and accept on his own that this is pretty serious and WILL (not might) adversely affect his quality of life if he doesn't take steps to do some minor tweaking. The problems to follow are a PITA if he doesn't.
You need to adapt to survive.

I think I will go with him. I can remember things the doctor says that he might forget. And I think he likes the moral support, too.

As for quitting smoking, I'll work on him. This is just day 1 of knowing about it, so he may come around. He knows how serious it is, but it may not have totally sunk in yet.

Sandy - how does he feel about you vaping? Has he ever tried it?

Hm OMG! I drink those! And i'm wondering why my BP is high (monitoring for a month). My normal pulse rate is around 120 (even before energy drinks) which is normal for me but the last few months i have a high pitch noise in my ears which is probably BP related. Stopped eating too much salt, one coffee per day. When my pulse rate goes over 180 (my record is 226) my nose may start bleeding, a safety for the stroke lol.

Sandy I always remember i used to squeeze a lemon for my grandpa in situations we needed to drop BP quick but i guess since he's taking medications now it's only good to know that lemon and garlic reduce BP. I hope he get's better and maybe stop smoking in the future.

Got a new belt today since i lost weight during the summer (a lot) my pants at work DROP LOL! I lost the clip of my old belt and had to buy a new one :(

Good day everyone :)

Oh no - please get off of those, T. :nun: I managed to get my son off of Monster by adding caffeine to soda that I made with the SodaStream. The caffeine is all he was really wanting and he won't drink coffee or tea. He has a double shot of caffeine for his first morning drink, a single shot in the second, and then none for the rest of the day. When he got off of the Monster, he stopped having the terrible pains in his joints that he'd been experiencing. Here's the caffeine that I buy:

Liquid Caffeine

You can add it to any drink. A small amount goes a long way.

Ahhh - memories.

Mrs. Awsum "ganged up" on me and got me into vaping. Now I think she feels she created a Frankenvaper.

Does Mrs. Awsum vape?

Hee hee! Where is that lightning bolt thingy?

Nah! I'll be fine. Even if i die i won't even care lol.

We have to find a strategy now to make your husband quit smoking. Maybe even start vaping and then quit? Has he tried it?

When I got my first e-cigs, I asked him to try them, and for some reason, he resisted. I said it was narrow-minded to not even try something, so he took the obligatory puff basically to shut me up, and he has showed no further interest. I'm not going to hound him about it. But he does have to quit smoking. Maybe a patch or gum would work better for him.

Your attitude about dying is Bill's. But the thing is, if you get a stroke, you're likely to live but be severely impaired. I described it in detail to him, and I think that finally sank in. You are likely to not just drop dead, but to suffer from it. Who wants to be paralyzed, even partially, or maybe not be able to talk? Maybe have to live in a nursing home where people can lift you out of bed -- I certainly couldn't. He delivers food to nursing homes and sees the old people there, and it upsets him, so reminding him that he might wind up there soon if he doesn't change scared him. It should scare you, too. Don't wait 2 years like Bill did and risk having something devastating happen to you.

Interesting, here is a nice video explaining a few things about chemistry of the brain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YOwEqGykDM

Maybe get a gallon of caffeine and drink it all at once it will go away :D :D

Trit, that video was interesting. I never really knew how caffeine worked. I'm one of those people who is not particularly addicted. I drink 3 cups in the morning, and that's all for the day. There was a time when I decided to wean myself off coffee, and I found that tea, which has about half the caffeine, worked just as well. And then I started drinking green tea, which may have even less caffeine. Now I"m back to coffee again. I like the taste better, and recently I've read that a small amount, up to 3 cups a day, is actually good for you. My only problem is that I need milk and sugar in mine to make it palatable. I don't like adding all that extra sugar to my diet. I use about 1/4 tsp per cup, but still, it adds up. I'd rather use real sugar than those chemical substitutes, though. I don't need sugar in tea, though, which is why I switched to tea for a while.

Good morning all! :D

My exhaust seems to be in the country... Mwa ha ha!

Your parts seem to be moving at the same speed as my new dishes. I finally got them yesterday!

My new rugs for the kitchen took even longer.

The good news is the price was right.

Now I am debating with myself whether or not to buy one more set. Eight plates and bowls is maybe not enough. I had a lot more with my last set of dishes, maybe sixteen. That was a lot so maybe 12 plates and bowls is the right amount.
