Nothing motivates like being kicked in the .... I expect Terry to get started right away on that new orca drawing.

Terry, maybe give it another go since it is a great subject.

I hate redoing the same drawing. That's why I haven't gone back to Sandy's snowy river yet. Remember, that was the one I screwed up the sky? I found another Orca photo that I might try and do the water in blue. MAYBE! I really liked the Orca drawing that I screwed up so it will go on my redo someday list with Sandys snowy river.

Wildlife enthusiasts will be interested in these rare white bears. They are a black bear but a mutation or whatever. We have white deer near here that seem like the same genetic mutation at work.

Who says big girls don't cry? I got all teary eyed watching that vid. It was amazing that that bear was so relaxed and didn't threaten the photographer even why eating. Thanks for posting this. I sure hope they can stop those tankers.

If you were interested in the bears, maybe you'll find these white deer in my area as fascinating. Since the Seneca Army Depot closed, it's uncertain what will be done with the land. There's an organization trying to make some of it a wildlife preserve so the white deer have a place to live. I have a few photos of them, but I should go back with my new camera with the zoom lens for better shots.

Read about them at Seneca white deer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now they have a video, I see.

Very cool! We have an albino deer in town here but it isn't a Seneca deer. It had a brown brother or sister but it was all the talk around here a couple years ago. Nobody that I know has seen it for a long time so some poacher probably shot it. :(

These deer aren't albino. Maybe the white deer in your area wasn't, either. The Seneca deer are white-tail deer, just like the brown ones, just like the white bears are black bears. That sounds confusing. Follow me? This site explains it: Seneca White Deer | Atlas Obscura There are other white deer, but not so many in one place as here.

I definitely will go try to get more photos once the weather gets warmer. I know where and when they are most likely spotted. I used to live just a couple miles down the road and go past them all the time.

Here's a site about some white deer in Wisconsin. Protect the White Deer Here are some spotted in New Jersey. Rare, White Deer Appear in Jersey Woods | NBC 10 Philadelphia So you see, they are all over the place, just not such a large number all in one place as in the Seneca Army Depot.

I know what you're saying. The Seneca deer aren't albinos. I'm assuming our white deer is an albino because this town is full of deer and nobody has seen a white deer here before.

It still could be either. It depends on its genetic makeup. There's another condition called leucism, which causes white animals with normal-colored eyes. I think that's what the Seneca white deer have. So it would depend on what color eyes your deer has. Are they normal looking, or are they pink?

I didn't know the name for the white coloring that's not albinism, so thanks for causing me to do some research to try to explain it. For more info on leucism, see Leucism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lots of people just refer to any white animal that occurs in a kind that's normally dark as an albino, so it's understandable that you heard the deer referred to that way. As for the Seneca deer, they have done studies, and the word is they are not albino, though the word "leucism" never came up. Still, that's what it sounds like it is in the case of the Seneca deer and the bears.

Good morning, peeps. Geez, I hate Daylight Savings time change. I already have to leave in only 15 minutes. I should have another hour to hang out.

Definitely tired but if I can make it through one house cleaning and a couple of small errands, I can come home and collapse.

Who likes the time change? Not I! Have any of you ever met someone who says, "I think it's a great idea!" If most people hate it, if it disorients the country en masse for a day or 2 twice a year, why do they persist? Just inertia? Are there just so many bigger problems that no one wants to address this fairly minor one? I think it should be eliminated. We don't save any daylight because of it. The days are the same length, no matter what time you say it is.

Hello Everyone. Good to see so many of you so active. :)

Love the pond Lizzie. It's really coming along. And I'm so glad the the pups are doing well and getting along with Penny and Rusty.

The bathroom project looks like a challenge, Cindy, but I'm sure when it's done, it'll be great. Like you, my tools are mostly Harbor Freight. If everyone else leaves them alone, they survive.

I, for one, still enjoy your tutoring sessions, Sandy. The leucistic bear and deer are fascinating.

I still use my Volt X2's and Twists, and even my 65's and 78's, but the latter two types are so old that they are dying out. At home, I use mostly mods. My favorite is my Saber Touch. Not only is it a joy to use because I don't have to push any buttons, but it's a work of art. I also enjoy my Nemesis mods, MVPs, K-100's, Vamos, Leos, and my TVS mods. I have others too. Well - you saw my PV holder. As far as eliquid goes: I DIY most of it, but I'm also still hooked on SI's Grape, RY4 and Watermelon. And then they have that Niquid line that reeled me in with their Butterscotch and Strawberry.

My interests are no secret to you folks: Anything and all things nature. Animals, trees and plants, weather, ecosystems, rocks, fossils, gemstones, etc, so on. I also love building things and creating things - especially if I manage to do so out of "on hand" materials. Doesn't much matter if I use paint or wood or yarn or fabric or polyester resins - as long as I'm creating, I'm happy. Then there's fishing, hiking, camping, and photography. Right now, I'm revamping my surveillance system. Next on the agenda is either a desk organizer or the shed - weather and funds permitting. I couldn't possibly get bored and don't seem to have enough hours in the day.

At the moment, I'm still fighting this problem with the wrist and thumb. The corticosteroid cream is a bust. Not only does it make me overwhelmingly sleepy, but when I do give up resisting the urge to nap, I have terrible nightmares. It seems to be acting as a super depressant. And, it isn't helping the problem worth spit. So - I think I'm done with it. :glare: I get cortisone shots on Thursday.

On the bright side: Spring is just around the corner!

The time change is ridiculous. We didn't have one in Indiana when I first moved here. That changed with the election of Mitch Daniels who promised that he wouldn't implement DST. That's one of the very first things that he did when he got into office. :glare:

Typical politician, Rave. I always wonder how they manage to have two mouths so they can talk out of either side of their heads. Maybe it isn't another mouth, but they manage to learn how to talk out of another orifice.

Harbor Freight tools are fine, just don't push them hard or your let out the smoke, and we all know everything runs on smoke 'cause if the smoke leaks out, the thing stops working.

I can see an advantage to not being a holdout and conforming to the time the rest of the country is on, but the whole idea stinks. Who would complain if they just did away with it? How hard would that be?

I'm back from tutoring.

The first thing we did was to make the rock candy. It wasn't as good an idea as I thought it'd be. But we did it, and now let's see if the kids can leave the jars alone and let the crystals form.

We did a few other things like go over their vocab words from last time, which they always groan and roll their eyes about. I wish I could find a fun way to get them to learn them.

The boy read about what a judge does. It was very short, but there were lots of words he didn't know. We went over them, too. They are homework for next time.

The girl bought a book at the school's book fair, but it was really too hard for her to read. We struggled through the intro, and I have words for her to learn. At least she'll do the word searches using those words, though that still doesn't let her pronounce them or know what they mean. It's better than nothing.

We did a Mad Libs. It was a pretty good one, and we had a few laughs. The kids don't tire of them.

By that time, it was 1/2 hour later than usual, so it was time for me to leave.

Rave, you mentioned upgrading surveillance. Here's a capture I just took from my camera. The camera faces west-northwest and the field of view is out to about a quarter mile. Keep in mind it's after sundown and the IR system still hasn't come on.

Lizzie, here's some of what's left of the snow.
