That's so beautiful, Sandy. Just stunning.

I'm hoping for some sunshine here today. It's been the epitome of gloomy for that last two days. I wanna see those crocuses open up and get some sun while the BF and I work outside. We'll have to go to town first to get a tube for one of the tires on his lawn tractor that he hauled up here last night along with a reallllly nasty weed whacker that functions with a circular saw type blade. While we're in town, I want to pick up some porcelain floor tile that looks like wooden planks. It's this tile:

My late husband and I never did put in a hearth. He hauled up some flat stone from the creek that we'd intended to mortar in, but never did. Then we got to thinkin' about it and decided not to do it before we put stone in above the fireplace all the way to the peak. That's 15'. And expensive. Anyhow, we didn't want to put in the creek stone if it wouldn't match the veneer that we plan to put above it. That simply isn't in the budget right now. In the meantime I've been dealing with a bunch of loose stone with wide gaps that collect ashes in between them and have to be moved to vacuum out on occasion. The hearth is covered with metal sheathing, so there's no fire hazard, but I'm tired of dealing with those rocks and want a hearth that will be attractive and easy to clean and maintain. This wood-look porcelain looks like it will match the mantel and beams that go up to the ceiling. If it doesn't, I can always return it. Whadaya think?

Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!

Those tiles work good and since they are porcelain that are water proof and clean easily.

Good Morning Everyone...

Good morning, Voltnics.

SandySu, that is the most beautiful photo of spring.

Raven, love the wood look tiles and would install them in living room, dining room, den and office if it was in the budget. I love those tiles.

Try to get a photo of the giant weed wacker in action but stay away from the blade!!!!!!

My neighbor says she will teach me to run her little tractor.

Sitting down, facing forward.
moanin', Voltville.

It was raining last night which seemed strange since it was 33 then and earlier it was snowing at 35. Guess the "upper atmosphere" was warming up. Then it snowed again and left a skim coat on everything. Now, the sun is out and it's dazzling outside. Between the snow in the trees, the water from the melting snow glistening and just the reflected sunlight. Kind of pretty, but hurts the eyes, LOL.

Rave, what brand of tile is that? It really looks nice!

Lizzie, driving a tractor is like driving a car, only slower, LOL. The big trick is not to over do anything, small bites of anything when using heavy, well semi-heavy, machinery.

Sounds pretty, awsum.

I enjoyed the photos of your snowy yard and Bo walking Mrs awsum yesterday.

Well, breakfast and then some weeding, some work on the irrigation lines, find the pond pumps, do some laundry. I really need to vacuum.

I lit a fire in the stove. The house was 67 degrees which isn't too bad, especially since the day is starting at 53 degrees, but I wanted to be able to warm up after getting wet doing the irrigation lines.

Morning folks. Lizzie, I think you're ground is pretty flat but two of the main safety issues with tractors of any size are tipover and staying away from moving parts with clothing or hands. They go slow and lull you into a false sense of security while climbing over a log or on a grade until they reach that point. There have been several citrus growers here found under their tractors in groves from running over stumps. Mine almost turned over on me on a grade I thought was safe. I quickly lowered the bucket or it would have gone over. If the turning power take offs catch your clothing they will slowly pull you in and they're located away from the throttle or switch. Shut it down before getting off is your best bet. Not trying to alarm you but just take precautions and you'll have a ball. I've got two tractors. A Massey Ferguson farm tractor and a lawn tractor.

Good safety tips, Wuzz.

I try to remember that machinery just doesn't care if it hurts you. It has no feelings at all......but I feel deeply and I really care about getting hurt:)

We are very flat here although we have a bit of a berm on the outside of the fence.

They're just from years of not only my own experience but from friends and relatives as well. We grew up learning these things and worked with it all our lives. Sometimes looking back I wonder how we made it.

The tractor is a small tractor. It does have a bucket for the front and a spline thingey for attaching attachments. What attachments you would attach, I don't know.

I always admire my older lady neighbor that uses a bigger tractor around her place. A girl that drives a tractor, wow.

Now I will have a chance to drive a tractor, too! This is another neighbor and she drives her little tractor and she will show me how.

I did a bunch of weeding and I took my little coffee break, time to work on the irrigation. Maybe run a little water into the ponds to clean them out a bit and then get the pumps going.

One thing about tractors that sometimes gets overlooked....

They have enough power, especially in low gears, to literally rotate themselves on their rear axel IF traction is good and they can't move forward. Pulling stumps, for example, is best done by backing away, stump attached to the frame in the front, rather than pulling away with the stump attached to the rear hitch.

Good morning, Voltnics.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I worked on the irrigation system on the other side of the yard yesterday, cleaned critter pens, cleaned out the hay shed, I also located the pond pumps but I did not get them into the ponds. I'll have to work on that.

I did some more weeding. The cheat grass is starting to go to seed but I still have time to kill off as much as possible before they really seed off. I figure I need to be done with the cheat grass this week in order to prevent as much seeds as possible.

The wind came up last night and I don't know how windy it will be today. Hopefully it will die down since the farrier will be here at 10am.

Hubby got another big load of willow from the guy in town who is cleaning out his big willow trees. I guess he will need to unload that. He also got to play with his chainsaws and he helped a couple of guys with their chainsaws. Today he needs to help the neighbor put a new carburetor on her tractor.

I love those tiles too and picked up one box and two singles for the hearth. What I reaaallllly wanna do is tile that entire end of the room up to where it meets the carpet as well, but that's an additional 100 sq. ft. Not in the budget at this time. We asked at Home Depot if they thought that those would be around for awhile. The gal said that it was a new product, and she thinks that they will be around for quite awhile. I'll wait until they have one of those 24 months, same as cash deals. I paid off my last one awhile ago.

Learning how to use a tractor! What fun!! I guess I had four old clunkers, but I gave three of them to my son. The Briggs & Straton I'm keeping for mowing the septic field.

Rave, what brand of tile is that? It really looks nice!

It's Marazzi Montagna. The color is Saddle. Not too expensive either, but it sure looks expensive!

The lawn-not has been mowed bare naked. The briars were a royal pain in the patootie, but they are down ... for now. Sorry Lizzie, I didn't read your post until this morning, so I didn't get photos. My BF drove the tractor and I hobbled around and got logs and sticks and rocks out of the way before they would cause trouble. Hard to see them before he started because the growth was above my head. I also rerouted some surveillance wire so that it wouldn't be in the way anymore and I'll bury it there after I re-seal the connections in shrink tubing. We also took down my farm light to install a new ballast. Upon inspection of the unit, we've decided to send the ballast back. Some type of massive overheating took place in that lamp. It was enough to trip the ground fault and damaged most of the internals of the lamp. I've ordered a whole new lamp to mount on the pole. Yesterday, we were lazy bums and didn't do much of anything!

Spring has finally sprung here. I have proof!! Crocuses are all over the place and some of the dwarf irises that I planted last fall are opening up:

So today I'm going to pack to spend a few days down in Terry's territory. She and I had planned to go caving, but we're supposed to get three days of rain in a row. It wouldn't be prudent to go into those caverns (which you traverse by boat) when a flash flood could occur. They will probably close the cavern down anyhow. I'll still go visit her if she'll let me. Mostly I'll be helping BF work on his place. That floor hasn't been replaced yet and he has a garage door to repair while I organize his tools in three monster tool cabinets for him. Love organizing! :D
