Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

Not much going on today. I have to pick up Peter the Carpenter and bring him over to look at my door project at 9am. I found a wooden exterior door at Lowes for only $159. He would have to fix the bowed door frame, stain the door, put on hinges and install a door knob. He thinks that will be no problem. I might have him do some nicer trim around the interior of the door while he is at it.

All of this so that the magnetic dog door will work properly. The current door has metal sheathing and it messes with the magnetic field so the door doesn't want to work properly. The big dogs can get in without a magnet and the little dog can barely use it with a magnet on the collar.

The door has always been sticky anyway so time to get it fixed.

Supposed to be windy today.

moanin', Voltiatics.

Same here, Lizzie, not much going on. A quick run to the post orifice and pick up some lottery tickets on the way back. Since Amazon came through with deliveries, got one yesterday, I'll be wrapping presents after that.

The old chicken has the juice....:D
He wasn't drunk but he has one tooth and he needed to take a shower. Also, he really needs the money and I kicked him $20 for showing up and discussing the project. Which I planned to do anyway.

I am not trying to be mean, I just don't want to have an 32"x80" hole in the kitchen for days.

I'm pretty sure this is the goober that used to feed the dogs Twinkies when he bicycled by the house. I speculated back then that he was a drinker.

Oh well, It will all work out. Hubby can always take over, if need be.

The guy likes animals so he can't be all bad.

As an "old guy" he should know all the tricks and pitfalls, Lizzie, assuming he's been installing doors for a while anyway. As long as the frame is plumb and level he should be OK. Just watch him and make sure he measures twice, old piece and new piece, before marking, morticing and installing the lockset.

He has to install the frame, then he has to stain the door, install the hinges door handle and deadbolt, then the trim work.

I could only get a slab door for a great price and have to get all the other parts. I will still save at least $300 over the jeldwin solid wood door with frame even after parts and labor....if this goes smoothly.

If it were me I'd install the hinges and door to the frame, then mount the whole assembly. That way everything can be shimmed to get an exact fit on both sides and you have easy control of the top clearances as well. The lockset can go in after the door is in the frame and operating smoothly. Just my two cents worth and, as they say, you mileage may vary.

Good morning, Voltnics,

We are going to the Home Supply Store today. Wish me luck. I'm really very nervous about this project:) Maybe that is why we haven't done this before. Home improvement is great but there is a lot that can go wrong! First things first, will be be able to get what we need to get the job done? They seem to have the door in stock but the door framing material seems questionable.
