Good morning, VoltDIYers.

Good gosh, the guy came over to finish the job yesterday. He had to put in 3 pieces of casing and a door handle and a deadbolt. 4 1/2 hours later he wasn't done so I told him we were very happy with what he got accomplished but it was time to go home.

He totally fell apart. Was talking to himself. He put the door knob in the top hole. I was checking on him every so often so I noticed and said "Oh, I always thought the door handle went in the bottom hole and the deadbolt in the top hole.

I checked on him later and he had been working on getting the deadbolt put together in the hole for 45 minutes. I said "Let me take a look," He had been using the wrong screws which weren't long enough. I had the darn thing put together and working in ten minutes. Something wasn't quite right with the disc underneath but I insisted it was fine not to worry.

That was super frustrating since I had made sure the parts were all in the right piles earlier so the guy had to work extra hard at not being able to do that part of the job. He lost one of the screws for the face plate but since no one really sees it we used a gold screw instead of the black screw that came with the set.

I told him Hubby was fine putting the door knob on and it was time to go.

Hubby helped me when I got back from dropping the guy off. He fixed the dead bolt. Put in the hole in the frame to lock the dead bolt, put in the door handle and the hole in the frame for that and he put the face plates on the door frame and the door. Total time for Hubby to do that was an hour.

I dropped the guy off, paid him, said we were fine with what he got accomplished. Yeah, the guy is never working here again.

The day before, Hubby really did a lot of the work, as well. Hubby double checked the door frame and adjusted it several times to make sure it was straight and he fixed it where it was trying to bow out. If Hubby hadn't been here, I think the door frame would have been all screwed up.

The door looks fabulous but I still have to get the insulation strip in on the frame and fill the crack between the frame and the wall with insulation. Hubby has to build a door sill.

Obviously, nothing got stained so I have to stain the door and the inside trim. I might stain the trim outside and bring it in to dry in the office. The door won't get stained until the weather warms up a bit. The door is in a very sheltered location so it will be fine until spring.

At least the door is in and Hubby learned a lot about doors. We also now know that we have 2x6 framework which means we need to talk to the door company in Carson city see if they can build a door frame that fits our house. I don't see why not since they do the work there to create the prehung doors. We shall see. On the bright side, at least Hubby knows how to do this from scratch now.

Apollo took the day off if it snowed, LOL.

Lizzie, I'm glad your door is finally in. The details can happen later but it's a shame your "handyman" wasn't very handy at all.
You can say that again!

At least I got project number one for 2016 sort of checked off the list and it isn't even 2016 yet!!!! That is quite the accomplishment.

You're way ahead, Lizzie! I feel like the guy trying to drain the swamp in a tuxedo. I want to put the display for the weather station on the side of the pantry cabinet that faces into the dining room. A convenient, visible location where it is sort of hidden at the same time. To do that I need to get the wire for the AC adapter hidden in the cabinet. No biggie, right?

Wrong! I've got to provide clearance between each shelf and the cabinet wall for the wire. That means emptying each shelf so I can take it out and put a small notch in. In effect, empty the whole pantry cabinet then load it back up again. This was on my list for this afternoon, but it won't happen until tomorrow. I ended up going out to a friends house and installing a new flush valve in a toilet, among a host of other little things.

Good morning, Voltpeeps.

Looks like weather stripping the door will be our next challenge. Plus, Hubby needs to get a sill built. I see a trip into Carson in our future.

I have a blanket wrapped around the top of the door and a rug at the bottom to try to keep some of the cold air out.

I'm going to carefully stuff some insulation between the frame and the wall today. It will be a tedious job but someone has to do it and that someone is me.

Also, I should bake some bread and make some cinnamon rolls. Yummy.

Happy New Years.

Hubby bought firecrackers and we are going to the neighbors house to set them off tonight.

moanin', Volties.

Lizzie, I'm assuming you're using fiberglass insulation to stuff in around the door frame. Done be afraid to really stuff it snug. Just don't force it enough to distort the frame. I know insulation works by air pockets, but in this case I think stopping drafts is more important.

There was a strange bright spot on the video from the front yard this morning. It really had me puzzled. It was, wait for it.........

the sun! That's the first time we've had enough sun for a "shaft of sunlight" in almost a week! Hopefully, it'll hold for more than a few minutes. It is supposed to be sunny for the next week, but one never knows, do one?

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
Sun is up here too, probably for the next 2 days, then temps will go up and some rain.
The back of my neck is killing me and the headache too, probably that was the cause of my hearing problems and the severe cold. Still fighting it but i guess it will pass.

You still have that cold? My goodness, I certainly hope you feel better soon, Kon.

First of all . . . Weather is around here has been pretty consistent for the past couple of weeks . . . . Been in the 80's and although a few clouds every now and then w/ a sprinkle of "Spit" - still 6 feet of Sunshine all over the place . . . AND - Even expected to stay that way until after the weekend when a supposed clod front moving in to bring it down into the mid-to-high 70's . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

you won't have to clean inside the pantry until spring!!!!!

What Do Ya' Mean Until Spring - "You" of all people know, that is "Spring Cleaning" . . .

(Matter of fact, the funny thing is, I have been doing a NEW YEAR Cleaning for the past 3 weeks . . . Yes, it takes "Me" a lot longer now . . .)

I'm going to carefully stuff some insulation between the frame and the wall today. It will be a tedious job but someone has to do it and that someone is me.

Just a thought and maybe suggestion . . . Wouldn't using the Spray Form Installation in a can work a lot better and be even easier - at least that is what I see a lot of new construction & DIY shows using now when they are putting in New Doors/Frames . . . Again - just a thought . . . ;)

Still fighting it but i guess it will pass.

YES - I agree with "Lizzie" get back into bed and rest . . . ;)
"We" don't want Ya' to get any "sicker" . . .

Last, but surely not the least for today - Before EVERYONE gets going, I just want to say that I hope no matter what "Your" plans are for Today/Tonight/Tomorrow - be it going out on the town or staying home - that each and everyone of "You" Will PLAY NICE & STAY SAFE . . .

Also, I want to Wish "You" & "Yours" . . .

A NEW YEAR FILLED with . . .
HOPE, GOOD HEALTH, JOY & HAPPINESS
PROSPERITY, PEACE, & LOVE . . .

Uncle, one of the problems with that spray foam is that it expands significantly as it dries. It can, literally, bend a door frame if it gets over done and it's really easy to use too much. The other problem is that it sticks like glue and you wouldn't want to glue a door frame into place.
