Sitting down, facing forward.
'afternoon, Voltaticalytes.

I hope Rave is doing better today and giving the hospital staff a hard time, good naturedly anyway.

I just watched the launch and SOFT LANDING of a Dragon 9. They landed the first stage on a barge in the ocean. Amazing, and it looks kind of rough out there with waves breaking higher than the sides of the barge and white caps everywhere.

I saw Rave again today and she is a lot better but not without some problems. She was awake almost the whole 6 hrs I was there. PT took a lot out of her so she took a short nap after that. She looks good and is back to her 'ol feisty self but is still having a lot of pain in her spine which I'll get to later. They told her this morning that she has a urinary infection and an infection in her blood. She is on antibiotics and the drs are working on what this infection is in her blood. She went for a short walk in the hall with a walker with no problems other than it being tiring for her. Her spine is what is causing so much pain. Her chiropractor x rays showed 4 crushed vertebrates. This is caused by degenerative bone disease. She'll be having an MRI for this when she is out of the hospital and feeling up to it. Surgery is not out of the question. Unfortunately she was not discharged today but she is very hopeful for tomorrow. Keep your fingers and toes crossed. ;)

I read each of your posts to her and she had a big smile on her face. :) Thank you all!

More when I know more.

Good to know Terry, i hope she recovers asap :)
I wish something could be done for the pain though.

Thanks Trit. That is a problem right now. She can't continue taking the new "T" drug after today because it can cause damage to her kidneys so they are trying to find an oral alternative like Naproxen, Aleve, Ibuprofen, tylenol etc...but they all can cause kidney damage in the long run. She'll have to get her spine taken care ASAP to relieve the pain.

Thanks for keeping us filled in and passing our thoughts on to Rave, Terry. It great to hear she's doing better and, hopefully, the infections will be easily handled by antibiotics. Give her my best and all the good vibes and prayers I can muster. I'm guessing the "T" drug is tramadol, pretty potent stuff.

Thanks awsum. Tramadol was the narcotic drug that gave her the spasms. I had to look that up. :facepalm: She's been taking Toradol for the pain now and it is working great but can't continue taking it. I had to look that one up too. :facepalm: She needs to find an alternative to Toradol that doesn't have sulfate (I think) in it or cause kidney problems in the long run.

Oh yes! Forgot about that, i figured since my mother had that in family size packaging (1000 pills or more) should be good too lol. Pretty strong stuff.

My friend does his doctorate in pharmacology in London, want me to ask him?

Please do and thanks in advance. :)

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
Can you PM me what kind of MS she has? RR-MS, SP-MS, PP-MS etc? And also how many relapses in the previous 2 years.

Neuropathic pain offer a choice of baclofen, amitriptyline, duloxetine, gabapentin or pregabalin as initial treatment
2nd line treatment are Tizanidine or Dantrolene
3rd line Benzodiazepines in general.

And constantly MRI the brain to monitor it.

I won't see her again until Sunday evening but I will ask her then. I know she is taking gabapentin but don't know about the others.

What exactly is a relapse? Muscle spasms (MS Hug), uncontrollable shaking, loss of motor function in an arm or hand etc....?

Relapse periods have symptoms that arise from:
effects of cytokines and signalling cascade on neuronal function;
myelin and oligodendrocytes are destroyed resulting in nerve transmission being slowed or even blocked;
physical location of the plaques will influence the type of motor, sensory, autonomic or cognitive symptoms of MS

Remission periods: used to be thought the limited ability of the CNS to repair or replace damage but more a reflection of the CNS redirecting signals through alternate routes

He explained to me some things... And i didn't understand ANYTHING.

Let me know when you have more info

I'm with you. I didn't understand a word of that but Rave might. I'll copy it and show it to her and get back to you.

Oh my, sweet Raven, I will be holding you in my thoughts. I hope those doctors find something that helps and soon.

Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

It's way too early. I have a cleaning job today and then a few errands. It might rain this week. It would be nice but the weeds would benefit an awful lot.

Rave was feeling so good today that she was sure she would get discharged but it wasn't to be. Her white blood cells are still just a little too high but should be fine by morning. Her Dr is going to see her early in the morning in case he can discharged her instead of having to wait until 3-4pm likes it's been since she arrived there. She's disappointed but taking it very well. She has a prescription for Naproxen for the pain and we are all hoping that will be enough. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that she gets discharged tomorrow morning. :thumb:

@Tritium I will show her your questions tomorrow. I haven't forgotten. :)
