Awww Lizzie! 'Willie' and Sassy are so cute! I hope they settle in and hopefully Winnie-Willie learns her new name.

We got a very small dusting of snow this evening so there's Snow on the cars and very little on the ground. And.... YES!... I finally made a proper snowball... woohoo! And after I threw it at my fiance, I picked it up and threw it at his nephew... *snickers* I packed that ball real good.:D

I was thinking of Blues the other day when they were playing some Stevie Ray Vaughan songs on the car radio.

Every once in a while, one of you pops into my head, and if you haven't posted here in a while, I wonder about you. As I did about JoAnn this morning -- and then she posted, maybe even about the time I thought of her. I'm glad we heard from her again.

Your radar drew me in again Sandy!

Good morning Volties. I hope you all are doing good with all this crazy weather we are having. :)

You guys are cracking me up with the laundry scenarios, esp. you, Uncle.

We got Wilhemena the Catahoula Leopard dog and she is so frightened. I feel bad for her. I let her run loose on the five acres until about 3 pm when I found her in the farthest corner. The good news is she is bribable so I got a leash on her and now she is huddled inside the kennel that is inside the backyard that is inside the five acres. I hope we can keep her here long enough to help her come out of her scardy cat phase of new home life.

I actually like her but she is going to take some careful work to get her to come around. And lots of bribes.

Glad you got your dog Lizzie and I hope she works out well for you. I searched the AKC for a picture and that's one good looking dog. Maybe you could call her "Willow"?

    Willow, I like it.

I've been calling her Willie. Maybe Willow sounds a lot like No. They really seem like good dogs who are willing to listen to the boss. That would be me.

They did try to get the cat so we had a trainable moment. They were trying to dig out the shed at the side of the house. There could be a bunny under there but I think it was the cat. I couldn't see. I told them no. They didn't want to listen but I asserted myself. They left the shed area but Willie circled back so I throw some COPYRIGHTDMCA over there. She decided I have remote abilities to reach out and enforce the rules and left the area. I moved out for a tour of the front yard and then the circle ended up near the shed allowing me the opportunity to reinforce todays lesson "No digging up or chasing critters under the shed!!!!" Sassy listened but Willie made her move. "Oh no you don't" "Okay"

I walked the dogs to the back area and then Willie peeled off and went somewhere. Aha, she's headed for that shed isn't she. I took the shortcut and headed her off at the pass just as she was about to start digging again. Let's hope that did the trick:)

Rusty and penny got their turn for a walk around the yard.

It is supposed to be quite windy today but it was warmer at 35 degrees so nice.

I think I will do a crockpot of split pea soup with ham bits.

Hi gang, it's nice to see everyone chit-chatting here. I think I have a case of cabin fever but we just keep collecting snow! It wouldn't be so bad if it would melt away between snowstorms, but temps have not gone up enough for a thaw since, umm, I really can't remember. We had such a mild winter last year, it makes this winter seem so much worse. "whine"

Yep, I'm ready for Spring, please and thank you......our plow can't lift the snow any higher than it's already piled up.

Yesterday afternoon, through a window, not really sure if that is (hopefully) glare on the glass or dog slobber, sorry

Ohmygosh!! So beautiful, Q! Can I borrow your plow?

I always wondered how much a dog understood. Here's something that made me think they understood more than I had believed. We had a dog named Rowley when we lived in NYC. He loved going for walks, and when it was time to walk him and it was my daughter's turn, I'd say, "Time to walk the dog," and he'd go crazy, running in excited circles. I thought maybe it was the context or the tone of voice or whatever, but one day we took Rowley with us when we went to visit a guy he didn't know. My daughter had a friend along, and the friend had a yo-yo. The guy we were visiting asked the girl if she could do any yo-yo tricks, like walk the dog, and Rowley went into his usual berserk mode when he heard that. So he obviously knew the words, even said by a stranger and totally out of context.

I don't know if horses are similar to dogs in their understanding, but Penny knows eat and treat mean I'll probably be offering a carrot or letting her graze. Then one day I told her I was going to clean out her feet. When she heard "feet," she started looking around for a treat. So horses understand rhymes, but the consonant in front of the word is probably less discernible to them. To Penny, feet, eat, and treat all sounded the same.

I think individual dogs and horses may vary somewhat in their ability to understand language.

I think that many dogs understand a great deal more than what we give them credit for. And the longer they live with us, the more they understand. Other dogs, like my sweet departed Memphis, have the IQ of a carpet beetle.

I'm sure. We had a real mild winter last year so I was sure we were going to get globbered this winter but so far we've only had about 2" which melted the next day. We had a week of arctic weather last month and we are going through another less severe one now but all in all it's been pretty mild. I feel bad for you guys getting the really cold temps and snow but please keep it. :p

OH - thanks a heap! Can't you at least take some of it?! :glare:

    Tell us about Lucky.

Exactly what I was thinking.

LOL! Congrats of the twice successful snowball!

Yay! Good to see you, JoAnn! I've been missin' you around here. *sniff*

The washer repairman just came. The solution to the washer problem seems simple. It looks like the landlord, while playing with the circuit breakers the other day, turned mine off by mistake, then turned it back on again. But being interrupted in the middle of washing confused my washer. The repairman started it on Spin, and it finished the cycle. Now I have a load of laundry in there, just to be sure, while he's here. Meanwhile, he's cleaning the dust out of my dryer, which gets lint in it in spots that I can't reach and the lint filter doesn't screen out. And yes, I do clean out my lint filter every dryer load.

Just before he came, I was sitting here, waiting for him, and this song entered my mind. Granted, the song is about a different kind of man he's waiting for, but it seemed similar enough that I started humming it.

Thanks Celt and Joanne - I think the dogs are really good looking. Really, they have been great since being reunited. Willie is still more retiring of the two but doing much better.

SandySu - Glad you got your washer running and hope it wasn't too costly:)

The dogs have approached one another through the fence. I maintained control of the attitudes and I am very hopeful they can all be integrated sometime in the future. I am not in a hurry although walking four dogs once instead of two walks of two dogs each will be nice for me.

Dumber than a carpet beetle? I used to say Lucky was dumber than a rock but soooo sweet. Hubby is working tomorrow so maybe a couple of stories about Lucky and Rosdie tomorrow. One so smart she probably did know what you are saying and the other about as dumb as they get. Bith wonderful sweet dogs but complete opposites.

Lucky had long legs and dangling cocker spaniel style ears. Roadie had dwarf legs and German shepherd ears.

"Doggonit, Ree Drummond, you made me eat meat!" :grr: (vegetarian for +/- 3 years)

Ree Drummond is the Pioneer Woman and she has a show on Food Network. Today she duped me into making her meatloaf for my four nephews. Look at this photo. How do you not take a bite (haha or full serving) of that? Bacon and all!

If you've never tried this version, here's the recipe. It's super easy, super tasty, and it smelled divine! :p

Sriracha, or leave it out if you don't like  We like  here. I'm camping out at Dad's house with 4 boys (ahem, men - I keep forgetting they're 22-38) while I fix it up.

Sorry, Celt. Don't know of a substitute for parmesan. Nothing soft and stringy (like mozzarella). I think you need a cheese that's hard and dry. Maybe aged cheddar? I'd say leave it out, but I think it adds a lot to the flavor. Plus, it's one of the very few ingredients. The ketchup sauce is what really makes it happen though.

One thing I would do differently next time is cook the loaf for the 45, broil it for a couple of minutes (to crisp the bacon), THEN add the sauce and cook for another 15 (or maybe 30 and 30). It was tasty, but I didn't like the texture of the bacon (sorta boiled).

This was one seriously good hunk of meat! :p But I know I'll be paying for it tomorrow. I don't think my bod even likes meat anymore.

I had to google Sriracha. Never heard of it before. It sounds  too. :(

Yep, it's hot sauce. But you DO like ketchup, right?
    Just leave it out.

Oh, did I mention that these are the 3 nephews that I turned onto vaping (plus 1 that doesn't smoke or vape)? Yep, it's a vape den in here! :thumb: And no grown-ups! Just us kids! Kinda feels like a frat house.
