Time to say good night. Here's another springtime scene from my neighborhood.

We are going to try to hold out till Friday, when the washer repairman is supposed to come. If I can't do a load of laundry then, I'm afraid it's the laundromat!

BTW, it's still snowing lightly. I thought it was supposed to stop by now. They plowed the driveway in late afternoon, and now there are a couple more inches on it. I just went and swept off the porch for when Bill comes home, but there'll be more snow on it by the time he arrives. Probably just a skim. What can I do? It's as clean as it's going to get tonight!

It is still dark, it is snowing and Hubby says the dog is in the five acres so she got out of the kennel. I need a cup of coffee, some warm clothes and some daylight to go find her. Too early for the new girl to get here. I hope the snow doesn't cause a problem.

Oh, I thought the new dog was supposed to arrive yesterday evening. I hope Winnie is OK. Sending dog-finding vibes.

She was but by the time the lady got done with the farrier and the brand inspector it was too late to drive to Carson City and back so she has to go by here today anyway [it is only a few extra miles]. I told her it would be fine to come this morning.

I found Winnie and I got her to come over and eat. She was curious about Penny but seems afraid of Rusty still. I coaxed her out to the front of the house but she ran away again and I let her be. The lady is supposed to be here soon so wish me luck. At least the dog is still in the five acres.

Lizzie, it sounds like she's happiest when you feed her. Food may be the way to break through to her. I wonder if you do something simple like teach her to sit, using lots of treats, if that interaction with food involved might help her learn to be more comfortable with you. Or, maybe more important, teach her to come when you call her name, and give her a treat when she comes to you. It sounds like she'd rather roam than be contained in the kennel, so having her come when you call would be a great convenience.

So far, she hasn't escaped from the 5 acres, so that's a good sign. Keep checking your fences, though.

I'm so curious to see what happens when Sassy arrives! Will things be better or just more complicated?

In my future today is the dreaded laundromat! I should just get ready and go instead of procrastinating, sitting here at the computer.

I thought of you, Rave and wondered how bad the storm was at your place. It's just gotten to us. I hope you're not getting the ice we're supposed to get. We've been warned of power outages if the ice builds up enough on the wires and tree limbs. Okay, so we're to get snow, then ice, then more snow. A snow sandwich?

Might be some good news... the weatherman just said some dry air has moved into the weather system. If it stays it could lessen the storm for us. Might help you guys east of here too. I'm not counting on it though...got candles ready. lol

About now I'd like to shoot that damn groundhog! Just kidding. Sort of. :)

I lucked out here and only got 8" of snow. No ice, thank goodness. It's beautiful, to say the least. Hope that you didn't get the ice, Marlou!

 Ah...that's nice to hear. Thank you. :) I wasn't looking for a home when I followed Rave here but it seems I spend more time here than anywhere else and I'm getting to know you guys better everyday so I'll be sticking around until I feel unwanted. :)

Not likely. You've already "integrated well in the pack".

There are lots of old Voltvillians I still wonder about, even though we haven't heard from them in a long, long time. Rave, do you have any news of Bluesman? And what about Raynes? And I still wonder about Holly. Last time she posted, she said she wasn't feeling well. I hope it wasn't serious, and that's why we never heard from her again. She was always so jolly and so into going to Disney World. And there was another person from way, way back. I forget her name now, but she had an avatar with a dog, and she often referred to herself as if she was a dog. She was very funny. She said she was getting busy and said good-bye, but even though she's probably OK, I still miss her. And remember Vapian, who made the great song about stalking the mailman? What happened to him? Anyone hear from Steel Jan? There are so many I remember and miss!

I haven't heard from Blues since August. At that point, he was struggling with voice to text in order to communicate, and made a point of saying how difficult it was for him. He was unable to "find words". And so, constructing a message was becoming very hard. He was spending all of his time with the animals at the refuge. In order to not frustrate him, I haven't been in contact. And since he hasn't contacted me further, I can only hope that he's at peace within his own heart and spirit with the animals that he loves so much. I cling to that hope and image. Don't even know if he would remember me by this time as the disease progresses. Breaks my heart just thinking of him. But, I do anyhow. :(

I was thinking of Blues the other day when they were playing some Stevie Ray Vaughan songs on the car radio.

Every once in a while, one of you pops into my head, and if you haven't posted here in a while, I wonder about you. As I did about JoAnn this morning -- and then she posted, maybe even about the time I thought of her. I'm glad we heard from her again.

It was so good to see JoAnn again. I miss her being around regularly. I've seen Holly in the fasttech thread. Raynes - I haven't heard from her for a long time and miss her A LOT. :(

Winnie is a whole new dog with Sassy here.

Sassy is growling at Rusty. let's hope we can integrate this pack!

They are both gorgeous!! I'm glad to hear that Winnie is so much happier now that she is reunited with her sister. Chances are, they'll get along with Rusty once a pecking order is established. Hang in there! I have high hopes that this will work now that the sisters are together again.

Even from the photos, I can see a more cautious look in Winnie's eyes. Sassy looks more outgoing, maybe even aggressive. I think the dogs will work it out among themselves. I'm glad Winnie's mood has improved since Sassy came. I bet Sassy's mood has improved, too.

As I already mentioned, Nika brought about 8" of snow. That wasn't too terribly awful except that moving around out there is quite difficult. My son, however, managed to pop his knee outta place in a slip and fall while working in the field (literally). He pushed it back into place and relocated his patella by himself. Have I mentioned that my son is tough? Luckily, the contractor was on site, so he didn't have to hike the 3/4 of a mile back to his truck. He's now hobbling around the house (when he has to move) using one of my canes. Since the locating company that he works for does not allow its workers to be out in the field unless it's an emergency if the local school system if out, he's been able to take time off. He won't go to a doctor unless forced to do so by his employers. I can't see him returning to work any time soon. He has different ideas. More power to him. Dunno how this is going to play out.

Personally - I'm doing just fine. Can't complain except for the frigid cold. It was 4 degrees outside this morning when I bundled up and hiked down our un-plowed driveway (about 700' long one way) to retrieve the garbage can. It was really beautiful because the snow was pristine with the exception of deer tracks and either a dog or a coyote. I hated to muck it up with my own footprints. Dave can't put the plow on the truck in his condition, so I don't see the driveway getting cleared in the immediate future. And, we're expecting another storm this weekend. :glare:

So, I've just been keeping a hot fire goin' in the fireplace, hauling firewood in and filling bird feeders at least once a day, and relying heavily on infrared heaters to defray my propane costs. All of the heaters go off when I go to bed for the night except for Old Faithful. That's about the only time that the regular furnace kicks on.

I'm seriously tired of winter. Just sayin'.

I'm back from the dreaded laundromat! The first load of clothes are in the dryer. I brought them home wet, since there are only 2 loads, and I think the 2nd load can wait for the dryer for that little while. I left lots of stuff at home, waiting till my washer is fixed. It's stuff we don't need right away, like the bedding I took off the bed and, when the washer broke, put other bedding on our bed, and towels, which I have plenty of, etc.

I was shocked at how high the cost of a load of washing has gone since I last darkened the door of a laundromat. I shouldn't be surprised. The price of everything else has gone up, too. Anyway, that's over, and let's hope that the washer actually gets fixed on Friday.

I'm sorry to hear about Dave's knee. I wonder if he tore cartilage, as I did in an injury years ago. They did arthroscopic surgery to cut off the torn pieces, but I have wondered ever since if that was necessary. My knee will "go out" every once in a while if I use it wrong, but over the years, I've learned how to avoid that. The only thing I can't do is mount a horse from the ground since that knee injury. I've tried getting on the right side, but I just can't do it. Old age is my excuse. I hope Dave feels better soon, and it'll heal completely.

As for winter, February is the month to get tired of it and long for spring. Still, enjoy the winter wonderland while it's there. I am. The trees are still coated with snow, like lace, and it's white and bright today.

They are both beautiful lizzie. It was good to hear that Winnie is happy again and I sure hope they all get together well. It might take some time but I'm sure they'll figure it out. :)

Me too. I've had to turn my thermostat down even farther at night this week because it was coming on too soon after I went to bed. It got down to 19 last night and my bedroom was 52 degrees. Brrrrr and Grrrrr! I turned the furnace up to 70 and climbed back in bed until the trailer warmed up. It's sunny so the solar heat is keeping it in the lower 70's for now but we aren't expecting the daytime high to get above freezing. I'm dressed in my arctic gear and comfortable, or should I say warm, for now with just the radiator heat on full. I just hate this. I see $$ every time I turn a light on. :(

Glad you survived that ordeal. Now don't you feel better having that out of the way? :D

The laundromat experience was relatively painless. The worst part was lugging bags of clothes from the car into the place and out again. I have a washer that needs HE detergent, and that's what I have here, so I wondered if it'd work in a machine that's at the laundromat, but I used it, and it seemed to do the job just fine.

While the clothes were washing, I went a few doors down to the pizza parlor and had lunch. Then I went across the street to the bank. When I got back, the clothes were done. Now the last dryer load is going round. The first load took 2 rounds of the dryer. I think the laundromat's machines are bigger than mine, so one load was bigger and thus took longer to dry.

I wondered if it was safe to leave the clothes and do errands, but I decided it was OK in our little town. One time when I lived in NYC and our apartment building had a laundry room in the basement, and I went back upstairs, someone stole our clothes! I used to get the Sunday Times delivered, too, but if I didn't run right out to get it when I heard the thud outside my door, someone would steal all the best sections, like the magazine, out of it. Ask me why I don't have many fond memories (I do have some) of living in the Big Apple.

Hopefully, you won't have to do launderland again for awhile:)

. Hopefully, they are settling in. I took them for another walk around the property and then we talked to the neighbor. Willie is all worn out and Sassy and Willie laid down while I talked to the neighbor for half an hour.

Is her name Willie? I thought it was Winnie.

If they were worn out, they are happy. Do you think they are out of shape from being cooped up, or did they do a lot of racing around to wear them out? I'm so glad they seem to be settling in. They are probably really happy to be together again.

Willie? Was that a typo or do you have another dog named Willie? Sounds like it went well. :)

Edit: Oops. Sandy beat me.
