We turned south on the 93 just before the Great Basin Nation Park. It was super windy but the scenery was very nice. We stopped in Caliente for gas and when we saw there was an available room for $50 a night, we decided to skip trying to find a campsite and got a hotel room.

The next day we turned onto the road through Rainbow Canyon. Super pretty with trees and colorful rock formations. We were following the railroad.

Good morning Voltpeeps.

We drove up and out of the canyon and turned west to get back onto the 93. We were in a true southern Nevada desert with choya cactus the size of small trees, yucca and creasote bushes. This is the southeast side of the nuclear test range. People staying n Las Vegas used to watch the nukes from the casionos in Vegas.

We headed south and then east to Mesquite. The town had changed so much I didn't recognize it at all from 20 years ago. We jumped off the real roads and into the desert on a Back Country Byway. The scenery was very interesting. We were probably a good 10 to 20 miles from Lake Mead where the river enters the canyon. It was a Joshua tree forest [they look like tall yuccas]. We reached Gold Butte road and decided it would be super slow because it was so bumpy and rough. We turned around and went west across the desert. We are still in Nevada.

We went to Whitney Pockests. Really interesting. Here is a trough someone built.

And here is a dam someone made to catch rainwater coming through a slot canyon.

Morning Volties. Been a pretty busy boy since Matt paid his visit along with trying to straighten out Dw's health ins. Hope everybody is having a great Thursday

Good morning, Wuzz and assorted Voltmaniacs. Hubby cut down a bunch of the poplars that were getting old so I have a lot of clean up as well. It is really cloudy and it even rained so I guess I'll have to stay inside, do a little laundry and read a book instead. Yeah, I'm heart broken.

We had coffee at a "tank" which was a waterhole for cattle. We found the tracks of bobcat and coyote in the mud.

We were driving to Mt Trumbull when I saw this old windmill. It has fallen into disrepair because the rancher has put an electric motor on it and brings out a generator to pump water. I love these old windmills. They make me think of the Old West.

We have to have at least one photo of an abandoned cabin.

Signage was actually pretty good in the Arizona Strip.

Morning Voltaranians. Getting ready for my workout and then finishing Matthew cleanup and mowing both at home and the Church. Nice cooler weather here and with the shorter light cycle the grass id finally slowing down. Still haven't gotten anyone out here to give us an estimate on the roof. Roofers are all pretty busy. Y'all have a bodacious Friday

The wind is ripping outside. I need to get out there and feed the critters! but I don't want to:( The farrier finally called to come by today but I don't think he can work on the horses in this kind of wind. We have a fair chance of rain at 43% Rain is always welcome here.

I'll be back later to give some info for Catlady on Mt. Trumball/Poverty Flats area. It's fairly interesting.

Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

The winds are going to continue to be pretty bad today, The farrier did come by yesterday and we were successful in getting the little horses feet trimmed.

The area around Mt Trumbull was originally settled about 1918. The area was always very poor. The town was called Bundyville. I

Interestingly, they were able to do some basic dry land farming of the traditional corn, squash, beans until the Dust Bowl days. After the Dust Bowl, the climate had changed permanently and people turned to running cattle.

The population topped out at about 300 people but today, basically, no one lives there full time. It was a Mormon community.

Essentially, the lack of drinking water limited the ability of people to live in the area. There are very few springs and those few springs were taken over by a few individuals.

This is the Mt Trumbull schoolhouse. They have a huge amount of local/family history and photos inside. This is a recently built replica as the old schoolhouse had burned down a few years ago. The community decided to rebuild it to hang onto their heritage.

After we left Bundyville, we climbed up and up. We traversed a cliff and it was scary going up that one lane dirt road that was a ledge on the side of the cliff face. Here is the view from the top.

There were lots of flowers blooming but these were the most spectacular.
