Whoa! That would cause me some trouble too.

BTW, I've read that we can't dream about anything that we haven't experienced, hence you not dieing in your dream. I don't know if this is true or not but it has been my experience. When ever I've gotten close to doing something in my dreams that I've never done or seen before I wake up. It doesn't explain all the bad dreams that vets have though.

Speaking of all theses dreams, I had a doozy when I was a kid. It was the same dream for months.

My mom had one of those big dodge vans that was so popular in the 90's . So Mama and I were going down the road and I looked out my window. Then for some strange reason, I looked at my mom and she wasn't there! So then I looked back out of the window and then at her again and she was there. This went on several times in the same dream but finally she always disappeared for good and I would wake up trying to scream for my mama but I couldn't.

    Scared the snot outta me.

I certainly didn't know about it. It sounds a lot like what was done to the Native Americans. But at least the Acadians could settle elsewhere, where they pleased. They weren't shuttled off to reservations. Basil found a nice little homestead in Louisiana, for instance, and he liked it better there because the winters weren't so severe.

When I got to the part where the villagers were all gathered at the seaside, awaiting deportation, while their cows went un-milked at their farms, I could only think, "What a waste!" Did the British eventually move people into the areas where the Acadians had lived, or did they just want the Acadians out? Is this where the hostility between French Canadians and English Canadians started?

Sandy, the hostilities between the French Canadiens and the English Canadians probably goes way back to the wars between the French and the English in Europe. What was Acadia or Acadie in French is now known as Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and northern Maine. A number of Acadien descendents have moved back to those areas and fly the flag of the Acadien people at their homes. I have one here on my desk. The Cajun flag is similar, but has the castle or castile of the Spanish, as part of their flag. The Spanish controlled the Louisiana territory at the time of the deportation and welcomed the Acadien exiles to Louisiana.

The English have since apologized for the deportation and Acadiens are welcomed back to those provinces.

I always heard that you can't die in a dream, too, but I just looked it up, and a bunch of people said they did die in a dream, so I guess it's possible.

Vets have bad dreams because they are reliving bad experiences, I think. I'm no expert of post-traumatic stress, but I think if you have unresolved issues or fears, you'll dream about them. I think everyone has bad dreams occasionally. I wonder if any psychologists have explained what they mean. I'm not even sure what significance dreams have. Are they trying to tell us something, or are they just disorganized random thoughts?

I think dreams are strongly associated with our waking thoughts and activities. When I used to read for a living, I often dreamed I was someone else, not myself in the dream. I was probably making up a character to be because I spent a lot of waking hours reading and identifying with a character who was not me. Since I no longer do that volume of editing, I don't dream I'm someone else.

Dreams are weird, when you think about it. Why do we dream? Why are some dreams easier to remember than others? Why are some dreams very pleasant and others are nightmares?

It's been snowing all day here, since I mentioned it starting this morning. Jerry, is it snowing yet up where you are? I heard this storm is moving up from the south, so you're likely to get it after we do. We don't have a lot of accumulation for the time it's been snowing, but it's mounting up. I think they predicted 3 to 5 inches. We get less than some surrounding areas because we're between the 2 biggest Finger Lakes here, and the large bodies of water mitigate the amount of snowfall somehow. It's supposed to be much worse south of us. We have a bunch of microclimates here, and there's a snow belt that we cross when we travel between Ithaca and Binghamton that's always got more snow than surrounding areas. In fact, they built a ski slope at a spot along that snow belt: Greek Peak.

Yes, Sandy, it did snow here. We got about 4 inches of snow before it changed to rain this afternoon. The rain has tapered off for the time being, but we may get a couple of more inches of snow from the backside of this storm, before it ends tomorrow morning. Our weather is greatly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and the North Atlantic is a cold and nasty body of water.

Jer, Lis - Good seeing you. Glad you didn't get too much snow, Jer.

    Nice Happy Valentine's post, Lis

Terry- Nice, I'm hoping to see my chocolates this evening. Hubby traditionally stops at the grocery store and picks me up a variety of chocolates for Valentine's Day.

All the dogs in the neighborhood were rioting last night. There was also some howling going on somewhere in the distance. Sassy and Willie were barking and running to the fence line to bark. Hubby says it is coyote breeding season. Definitely feel like I didn't get any sleep.

I just went and cleared the snow off my and Bill's cars. I AM going to the barn today. The snowstorm seems to have stopped, though I did see a little snow drifting down this morning, a flake at a time. In fact, as I look out my window, it's doing that now. Maybe even more than a flake at a time now. Still, it doesn't look serious -- yet. The next challenge will be backing over the mound the guy left behind my car when he plowed the driveway this morning. Wish me luck. I think we got 6 to 10 inches, depending on which end of the car I was sweeping off.
