I've had vertigo several times but it never lasted more than a day. I have symptoms that really stress me out like buzzing feet, bizarre pains that come from out of the blue and in different places, a bad gut with a mind of its own, super duper hot flashes but there doesn't seem like there is much to be done about it. Guess we'll see what this doctor has to say.

I hope he doesn't treat me like a nut. I am not making this stuff up. I started taking B vitamins and I stopped having twitching in my toes and near my eye. I think I need to get some sort of meditation CD to help me deal with stress but so far I have gotten one Tai Chi DVD that even my husband who loves karate and tai chi couldn't follow and one tape that sucked.

Any one have an idea for a meditation/relaxation tape that they love?

What about going to a class? I know you'e busy, but a class might help more than a CD. I know with riding, you really need an instructor on the spot. You couldn't learn to ride from a CD or DVD. Could it be the same with meditation?

As for something to meditate to, I've heard of people making their own, which sounds good. You could custom-make it to suit what you respond to best. What about some restful music you really like, and just sitting back with your eyes closed and listening to it? I think listening to music can be like a meditation.

Maybe a glass of wine before or while listening to the music would help.

Here's another meditation idea, Lizzie. I don't meditate formally, but I find grooming Penny, especially during shedding season, a very restful thing to do. I don't allow a certain amount of time for it, never watch the clock while I'm doing it, and it's just Penny and me, communicating while I scrape off all that winter hair. I have treats on hand, and every once in a while, Penny gets a treat. When she starts getting restless, I end the grooming session. Later, when the grass is up, I'll let her graze while I groom her. Now, I put a pile of hay in front of her, and that keeps her content and occupied longer than if she was just standing in the cross ties. It's more than just hair removal. I have my hands on her body, telling me how she's feeling, noticing any little scrapes or scabs, learning anew the subtle changes from day to day. It's a way of checking her over, communicating with her, and also getting her clean, which is good for her skin and hair, all that stimulating currying and brushing. I know I'm a grooming fanatic, and at various barns where I've been, they have laughed good-naturedly at me for how long I take to groom a horse. But it's not all about getting the job done so I can saddle up and ride, it's an end in itself. I usually allow about an hour for this. But I don't watch a clock or whatever. If I'm meeting someone at the barn to ride with, I get there an hour earlier and just groom her till the other person shows up. Then I know while they are quickly grooming their horse, I have to finish off the job and get her tacked up.

You could try this as meditation, if you enjoy grooming your horses. It also works grooming dogs.

Nice, RAven, glad you have warmth and beauty all in one place!

I'm nnot feeling my best this morning. A touch of vertigo. Maybe my ears are a bit clogged up...allergies?

I have a doctor appointment tomorrow. I had to find a new doctor since our old one quit. Not that I ever go since they aren't going to do much for arthritis, hot flashes or any other irritating condition I have:) Middle age sucks but at least I have horses to hug and dogs for kisses. Oh, and my guy is so sweet and still loves me with all his heart:)

I get vertigo all the time but it is usually caused from my whiplash injury. Sometimes when my neck is out I get vertigo and my chiropractor adjusts my neck and it clears up the vertigo.

If the vertigo is caused by the crystals that Rave mentioned, there is a procedure called the Epley Manuver that you can do yourself but it has 1 drawback. After doing the procedure you have to keep your head straight, no bending over or looking up or laying down, for 3 days. That sucks and I knew I couldn't do that but I had this procedure done by my chiropractor and it worked, even though the first thing I did when I got home was I forgot to not bend over. I reached for my cat dish on the floor, forgetting to keep my head straight. Normally they say this will undo the procedure but it didn't for me. The vertigo was still gone until my neck went out again. You can see several ways of doing this procedure here epley maneuver - YouTube

Oh man - vertigo is not fun. Hope that your doctor can help. I wonder if he'll do the test where you lie on your back and he moves your head around to dislodge a possible crystal. It's a simple, painless test. My neurologist did it to me to see if that was what was causing my vertigo, and ruled it out that way.

That sounds like the Epley Maneuver I was trying to explain.

Fortunately the vertigo is gone but how could you not do any of those things for 3 days? How do you sleep, strapped into a dining chair?

That's the problem. I couldn't sleep in a chair for 3 days but I had her do the maneuver anyway. Thankfully I didn't have to keep my head up for it to work.

Glad it worked for you, especially without having to keep your head up for three days. Too bad about your neck, that is rough.

How could someone keep their head up for 3 days? It sounds impossible. Maybe they could keep their head higher than their feet, but when they fell asleep, even sitting up, their head would drop somewhat. Maybe some sort of neck brace? Did the doctor give suggestions?

Yes, a neck brace like is used for whiplash. It also serves as a reminder to keep you head up. I still wouldn't be able to do it.

Yep - That's what my neurologist called it - the Epley Maneuver. However, there was never any mention whatsoever about keeping my head straight up.

To say good night, here's an owl. Rave told me it's a barred owl. It was at the zoo I visited last summer, too.

Ah ... I love barred owls. They're my favorites. Gotta love those soft, dark eyes. Great shot!

Not much goin' on here. It's only 5 degrees, so I'm keepin' the home fires burnin'. I have to go into town at some point, but I'm not eager to go out. My kingdom for a car with built-in bum warmers! Just sayin'.

They have them. My friend has a van with heat in the seats. I think it feels weird, but I guess it's because I'm not used to it.

I woke up to see a thin new coating of snow this morning, but now it's sunny. The weather forecast never mentioned it, so I guess it was lake effect snow. I've had that explained to me several times, but I'm still hazy about what lake effect snow is. I think it's very local and is because of the lakes hereabouts having different temperatures in the water than the air, but any more detail than that, and I'm lost.

One neat thing about the lakes is, if I get up early and drive someplace, often there will be a big, thick cloud just over a lake, not over the land. It's an interesting effect. I have never had my camera with me when I see it, or I'd show you a picture.

Brrr. Can't even imagine what 5 degrees feels like. I think maybe 37's the lowest I've gone. How about one of these?

My car has heated seats. When I first turned it on for my mom, she said "It's really nice, but I feel like I just peed in my pants."

I slap on one of those heat patches for sore muscles on each bun and hit the door.
