Staying here right now is pretty much all I can do. We don't got anywhere else to go. I just spent the last month straightening out my soon-to-be Father-in-law's checkbook. I had to take it over as my Fiance's sister screwed it up...(i.e. not writing anything down since november 11) He had checks bouncing all over the place. So she has to find a new place to live as Soon to be F.I.L kicked her and her husband and two sons out.(Long story!) I'd rather hear the cows and smell their poo than have to put up with her drama. (plus cows smell better than the chicken poo they spread over the field in front of the house.) I will just miss the trees on that side but I have the left side to enjoy so I am very thankful for that.

I will get some pics of the destruction soon. Anyone got any good Ideas for soothing music? I.e. Rainforest sounds or just soothing instrumentals?[/QUOTE]

Amazon Apps has several free ones and some paid for under $2. You can "test drive" them before you download most of them. I bought one named "Sleepy Tyme" for like $1.49 on my Kindle account and downloaded it to my phone and tablet. It's a sound effects like rain and ocean, trains, traffic etc. and you can blend up to three different sounds to get what you want. Then you set it to play however many hours you want if you're using it to get to sleep. Most rain sound programs just sound like static but when you blend other sounds with them they get pretty cool. I'm using a low beach sound for wind effect, rain on a tent or tin roof for the drops, and a low volume fountain for actual water runoff. You can set the volume on each individually. Fun to play with. Works with smart phones, tablets or puters. There are also a lot of meditation music and sound ones, most of them free or very inexpensive. Amazon is my friend.

Hi Wuzz - I'm still looking for a medittion tape. One of those ones "You are on a blue lake, in the warm sunshine..." something like that. I'll have to look into your Amazon idea for soothing sounds:)

How are you and your wife?

Good morning peeps. Just at freezing here and the sun isn't up yet. I have lots to do but not much motivation. Need to finish my coffee.

Wow, sounds stressful, Celt.

Hiya voltville,

I know, everyone but Terry is asleep. Hi Terry!View attachment 312830

Lizzie, What in the world is a "hula hoe"?

Rave!!!! I am soo sorry about your wrist. I hope it gets well very soon.

Sandy, those pictures were gorgeous! What kind of camera do you use? I know its not just about the camera but mine is a 20$ cheapo camera from wally world. I have been looking at some Sony cameras, especially the Handicam. I need one with a rechargeable battery pack. I really hate buying batteries for my cam. They are so expensive and I won't use anything but duracell.

So sad story of the week. The guy who bought the 24 acres next us is cutting down all the trees to make a pasture. Our trail is gone and when I look to the right of the house and to the rear of the house I don't see hardly any trees. :( There are gonna be COWS next to us! With a barbed wire fence! I won't be able to let my little bruno run around now and I'm gonna need to spend 20 bucks that I don't have to buy a new harness and leash. I miss my woods!

I told my fiance that when we get our own place, It HAS to be a minimum of 20 acres! I need trees dangit!:glare:

Celtic, that's a shame about the trees. I like cows, so I wouldn't mind them next to me. Still, your views will be different, and you want woods. My advice is to get a place next to some state or national forest, which is unlikely to get developed.

Here's the camera I have. BuyDig.com - Canon EOS Rebel T3 SLR Digital Camera w/ 18-55mm Lens II But the thing that makes it special is the zoom lens. I can't find the exact one I have -- it's old -- but here's one that's similar. Canon EF 28 80mm F3 5 5 6 II AF Zoom Lens FOR EOS SLR DSLRS Free UK Postage 082966214059 | eBay

We had the lens already, so we bought a camera that'd fit all the lenses Bill had for an old Canon film camera.

If you want to go cheaper, before this camera, I had a Canon PowerShot that worked very well, except for the zoom lens, which was pretty useless. Also, the lens cover was built in, and that would stick, but a simple flick of my finger would open it all the way. We still have the old PowerShot, but no one uses it now. In some ways, I miss it, because this one is so big and bulky compared to it, and I tend not to take it with me everywhere, since it won't fit in a pocket.

The Rebel has a rechargeable battery, but it lasts a really long time. I just recharge it every once in a while when I'm headed out somewhere and plan to take lots of photos and I want to be sure not to have it fail while I'm out. The PowerShot used 2 AA batteries, so I got rechargeable batteries and a little recharger, and every evening, I'd recharge them. I had 4, 2 spares in case they ran out while I was out and about. Those batteries lasted a long time before they wouldn't hold a charge anymore and had to be replaced.

So the choice would be:

PowerShot: Easy to carry, takes really good photos, forget the zoom, have to recharge batteries more often. Much cheaper.
Rebel: Bulky, especially with the zoom lens, takes really good photos, more complicated to operate, recharging is every once in a while, just to be sure. It has never failed me while out taking photos. More expensive, especially with the zoom lens.

Chicken poo and cow crap....yum. I'd rather smell horse poo any day.

Google Forest Rain Sounds. I got a bunch of hits but I can't copy and paste on my iPad.

Cows don't smell that bad, especially in a pasture, where the smell isn't confined. To me, herbivores' poo smells better than carnivores' or omnivores'. And yes, I remember living across the street from a farm field and smelling the awful fertilizer when they spread it -- or anytime in winter when there was a thaw. That was bad. So much for fresh country air! Also, at another place, they would spray the field across the road for bugs, and my whole house would smell like insecticide. I used to wonder if breathing that was unhealthy. It certainly felt like it was.

Sure wish ECF would get this next unread thing fixed. I've all but stopped reading over here. Takes way too much time to figure out where to start back reading and a post takes me back to page 1. Laterzz ya'll.

I'm having the same problem. Every time I post a message, I go back to p. 1. I just use my browser's History to click on the page I was at, and I'm back again. It's one more step than usual, but it's not all that bad. If everyone's having this problem, try that solution.

Hi Sandy - I put the camera and lens on my Amazon wish list since I love your photos. It would be wonderful to have a better camera again.

Starting seeds this morning. So far,

Silver Wave Petunias - 30 seeds
Cherry Wave Petunias - 30 seeds
Tidal Wave Pansies - mixed colors - 30 seeds
Early Girl Tomatoes - 3 plants [9 seeds]

I'm probably a week too early but it is nice to make sure I have a lot done this week since Mon, Wed and Fri I have plans. Cleaning, Willie and Sassy getting spayed and cleaning. So I must get things done in the next few days. I am prioritizing carefully to make sure the items that must be done soon are done first. I can always get more rocks but I can't always play with the horseys due to the windy weather in the spring:) Next on the list - little horseys.

Hope they fix the forum soon. The page one thing does sort of suck.

Rave, I was betting with myself that it would be you who would know about the duck. I've never seen them here before. I guess I don't go down to the lake often in winter, but I have walked on the shore in winter before, and I've never seen them.

I was pretty sure that was a muskrat. He was am amazing swimmer. I followed his route for quite a while. Sometimes he dived under the water, and I lost him, but then he'd resurface, and I'd see him again. I think I must have followed along with him for about 1/4 mile before he disappeared, and I didn't see him again. He was swimming near where the ducks were gathered, so maybe there was some food source in that area. Why else would he occasionally dive? But he was definitely swimming as if he had a destination in mind, and the ducks were just floating as if they were just hanging out together.

Muskrats eat aquatic plants and critters. They usually have to dive for food. The entrance to their den is also typically underwater.

Thank you for the well wishes, Celti. I'll survive. I'm a tough ole broad. :D

I'm so sorry to hear about your neighboring trees!! That's terrible news. encourage.gif

It's alright I guess. The 20 acres is probably a pipe dream anyways. I'm probably more sad and cranky cause I'm losing sleep over the dang saws and tractors. Not to mention the horrible CCRRAACCKK and death screech of the trees.:(

As you know, I've been through this. Hang in there. hangin.gif

Wellll, The doctor's office called. He could make out a lot of degenerative disease in the wrist and thumb but he didn't think it was arthritis. He didn't see any breaks. It's just that one of the bones in the thumb is missing a chunk from the degenerative disease. No calcium deposits. It could be carpal tunnel, but my neurologist would have to get an EMG to see that. He wants to give me cortisone shots in my thumb. I told the nurse that I would do that as long as he'll also hit the spot in the wrist that's bothering me the most. I can't lift without wearing the brace. This is unworkable and extremely painful. She said okay. That shouldn't be a problem. So, my appointment is set.

They have those type apps also Lizzie. For the sound ones search white noise. They all work on Kindle as well. We're still recovering from all the radiation and chemo. She's got to have another CT scan later this month, then start a more aggresive round of chemo. For the time being she's feeling a lot better at this time and that's a big relief to me. Our son and his dw are comming down for two weeks later in the month so we're looking forward to that.

Rave, sending vibes that the cortisone shots help.

Wuz, sending vibes that your wife continues to feel better.

I went to see Penny this morning. The weather is gorgeous! Sunny, and mid-40s. I did a long grooming. As usual, I put out hay for Penny and whoever would come into the barn to keep her company. The big front door on the barn is tied shut so it doesn't blow off its hinges in winter, but the little people door was open, and I left it open while Penny was loose in the aisle, and guess what? She walked out the little doorway (I didn't think she'd fit, but now I know she does) and looked around outside for bare patches with grass showing and wisps of hay that had blown out of the pastures. So I did an extra long grooming outside while she got her first taste of grass in months. The grass is really poor still -- practically hay -- and we weren't out there more than an hour, and she had eaten some hay so it was mixed in her stomach, so I think she'll be fine. In fact, it's better for her to eat a little grass now to prepare her system for more grass later. For those who don't know, horses can get very sick from gorging on rich spring grass, so you have to limit their intake in the beginning.

I got a lot of hair off her, but of course, it just kept coming and coming, and I had to decide to stop at some point. She has a thicker coat than ever before, even though she was blanketed all winter. The hair on her belly (where the blanket doesn't cover) was so thick that it was matted in places like a long-haired cat or dog will get. I yanked at the mats, and a wad of hair came out easily.

It was so warm today that I felt guilty putting a light blanket back on Penny, but it'll get colder tonight, and then she'll need it.

Today was our first real taste of spring. Of course, I expect winter again soon. It's March after all.

Thanks everyone for your condolences One thing that makes it better is that it's cow and not people moving next door (field?). I'd rather it be animals than people. Course I am waiting till they get the cow and all of our coyotes return. That will be fun. See there is a pasture across from us and just down the road on each side are pastures. I live in cow country. There are several packs of coyotes and wild dogs(mixed with coyotes) that harass the cows. We have maybe 8 or 9 packs surrounding our house. The reason I know there are dog and coyote mixes running around is one of our huskies had a litter of pups and of the 2 that survived one was given away to a neighbor. She ran of and got pregnant with a coyote and took the pups to be raised with their pack. We see them across the road at night.

We have them around here, too. They are called coy-dogs. I hear they are a lot more brazen than pure coyotes.
