NO. Don't take it personal, but this thread got boring. Art criticism can just go too far. I am branching out in my interests, too.

To be fair, we do discuss more than art. Personally, being interested in art, I don't find it boring. I think, if you do, then it's up to you to bring up a new topic and see if anyone responds to it. Start a new discussion. I do this fairly often, and sometimes it doesn't provoke a comment, and sometimes it does. Sometimes it starts a whole new topic. It depends on whether everyone else finds the subject interesting enough to comment on.

I'm glad to hear you are branching out in your interests, too, though. I think the more things you find interesting, the more interesting you are. Tell us about your new interests.

I'm sorry you fine art boring but I'm afraid that I do take your comment personally since I'm the new kid on the block and have contributed to that subject. But to be fair, there is more talk about horses and the weather than art. This is a small group and there are several people here that ARE interested in art including Sandy, Rave, Uncle, Celtic and myself, so the conversation is naturally going to go in that direction from time to time. It will probably continue but you could maybe just skip over those posts. I agree with Sandy about bring up new topics, something that you are interested in. I'm sorry you haven't been working on your book. I hope it isn't writer's block.

Time for a tutoring report. Are you all getting bored with this? I asked this once before, and everyone said to keep posting them, but I just got a timely reminder that not everything we discuss may be of general interest. Anyway, here it is.

The kids had birthday gifts from their math tutor. He gave the girl an origami kit to make flowers. The boy got a book of interesting places in the world. The gifts certainly reflected the kids' interests, but they were way too sophisticated. The girl and I tried to follow the instructions to fold the paper, and they were vague and beyond me. Of course, part of the problem was that the girl wanted to progress to the flower, and there were previous instructions that had to be followed, but one said to push the edges of the paper together, and I couldn't see how to make the shape in the book. There was a video, and the girl thought watching that might help. It probably would, but not on English tutoring time.

The boy tried to read the book. He chose a section on the Great Barrier Reef. It was hard going for him, so I suggested he read a paragraph, then I'd read one. We tried that, but after a page and a half, he said, "This is really hard. It's written for adults, isn't it?" I said it was. But out of it came a mention of climate change, which he knew nothing about. We discussed it a little, and I promised to find something he could read and print it out for next lesson.

We worked on B from the alphabet book. The kids like finding things, and learning what the pictures mean, the words for them, helps their vocab. I had the girl write down the first page of names, then asked the boy to take over. Neither of them wanted to write the names down. They wanted me to do it. But I said they had to, since I thought it was good practice in penmanship. The boy printed very neatly at first, but it deteriorated after a while. I didn't say anything, other than at the beginning, I praised him for his neatness. When we found all the words that were easy to find, and we were slowing down, I suggested we stop. I don't want the kids to get tired and bored with it. It seems like such a great teaching tool.

I had printed out a word search for the girl using words she supplied. She worked on that while the boy and I struggled with the Great Barrier Reef.

Then the girl and I tried the flowers, but when that seemed too hard for both of us, we moved on to some exercises and then I had her read a poem about a frog. She didn't want to, but it wasn't long, and it gave me some words she didn't know for her homework. Of course the Great Barrier Reef provided words for the boy to study.

I had them go over these words they have for homework, and then it was time to go.

Next time (Monday), we'll make rock candy. They will have fun doing that. I also have info on climate change for the boy, and plenty of word searches and other paperwork for the girl.

I think that is a good part of the problem. Lack of male influence. Post Wabbit----

Regrettably I didn't know Wabbit but I agree. We could use more male companionship.

I think most of the guys are lurkers because there aren't many MANLY conversations. We gals can keep it active but it would be nice to have some male interaction. Some of us gals are single and have had to learn to do guy things so we can appreciate some male talk, perspectives, topics (as long as it isn't about hot chicks)

Awsum, and You, and Wuzz, and Jerry, and Lis all make the place more interesting. But none of you stop by on a regular basis. I think women without men around tend to get-- difficult. I think we behave ourselves better when men are around. Or something like that, when the men are flirtable.

I don't want to change anybody, and I am not going to change to please others. I have done so much of that in my life that I didn't even know who "I" was.

And, remember, vaping and smoking related topics come up so rarely-- and that is what this whole internet place is about. I have been working out lately-- treadmill and weight machines. Health-related topics.

What kind of manly things would you discuss, Terry? If the guys can do it, the girls can, too. I may not be much for following sports, and I can't fix my car, but I could discuss some things men discuss. Why not bring up a topic and see who wants to get involved?

Meanwhile, I'm off to bed. It's snowing out! I knew that little taste of spring wouldn't last. So my good night photo is a snow scene.

I hear Ya' all, but I can only add so much "Myself" . . . As one of "those" Men that only pop-in every so often - in "My" Defense - I do read the thread everyday as Ya' can tell by the "likes" I leave for everyone . . . Also - I contribute when I have something to say I feel might add to the conversation or even add some humor . . . Other then that I don't know what else to say right now . . .

Except - I hope everyone remembers that tomorrow . . .

I've noticed that nobody talks about vaping here but figured this was a place to get away from that so I haven't brought it up but since you have I'd love to know what everyone's favorite mod and toppers are and favorite flavor juice.

Wow! That's a tough question and I'm not sure if you really expected an answer but lets see:
Fishing, boating, skiing, camping, backpacking, building projects, home improvements, woodworking, target shooting/guns, playing pool, sports cars (not repairing them), BBQ,...I'm sure there are lots of other things but my brain just quit. Notice I didn't mention sports or chicks.

That is a gorgeous picture Sandy.

Wow, I don't think even the MEN that stop by discuss any of that stuff! I take that back. Yes they have. Guess you gotta read back, cuz they seem to have stopped.

OK, you asked for it. Check out my new vanity:

So cool. 12"D cabinet with a belly-front sink. The one and only bathroom at Dad's house is really tiny. What's in there now is a wall-mounted sink with front legs, and every time you go in, you kinda have to open the door wide open and wiggle your way around it. I'm hoping this solves that problem, without having to sacrifice having a full-sized sink, which this one does. Needs so much modding though, for what I need it to do:

1. There's a really cool Hall & Mack Concealed Lavatory (along with some other cool MCM stuff in there) right smack where the faucet would go. To clear the faucet when that door revolves, I have to put a single-hole faucet on the left hole (predrilled for 4" centerset) - which is great, cuz now I can put a counter-mount soap dispenser on the right hole (and cover up the middle hole) and do away with the ugly SoftSoap thing from the dollar store (or any other tacky thing they decide to put on there). Sad thing is, the predrilled holes are too small, so now I have to pull out the RotoZip with diamond-studded tile bit and tediously gnaw away at that left hole for the faucet (sinktop is cultured marble). I love pop-up drains without the lever (push to open/close - just like on my vessel sink at home), putting one of those in here too.

2. I'm remodeling mostly for my mom, who comes back in July. She and I are 4'11". The vanity is 36" high. Great for my nephews, but just a tad too high for us (and ADA, who likes 34" - but who cares?). So now I have to trim an inch or two from the base. Easy enough with my awesome clamping saw guide and circular saw, except there's a support beam in the middle of the bottom. So out comes the cheapo MultiMaster clone (Harbor Freight version, $29.95, instead of $300).

3. Battle of the adhesives: Because the front of the sink juts out from the cabinet, I'd have to glue the sink to the ceramic-tiled wall and base cabinet to keep it from tilting over when (not "if") somebody leans too hard on it (the plumbing helps a little with that too though). Home Depot #1 says Loctite PL-530 Mirror, Marble & Granite; Home Depot #2 says Liquid Nails Tub Surround; Lowes says GE Silicone Kitchen & Bathroom caulk; manufacturer just had a picture of a tube of silicone on the instructions. So walked around the store and found a tube of Loctite Clear Silicone in the GLUE aisle. Holds fishtanks together, so why not? Guess I'll try that one for now...

4. Putting a shelf inside, right under the plumbing, so I can put baskets underneath for Mom's stuff. My sink bases at home all have a drawer at the bottom. I originally wanted to custom-design one for here (I cut up IKEA kitchen cabinets cuz they have the coolest hardware and fittings), but nah, overkill. She'll be happy with this one.

And while we're in the bathroom (that came out ALL WRONG), found this stuff:

CornerFlex Caulking Strips

These guys take so many showers that I can never seem to get the caulk around the tub to dry. These strips have ZERO drying time. Easy peasy, just peel and stick. No gooey fingers. ;)

Next project: putting up a heavy bag downstairs. Manly enough for you, Terry?

Aw, what happened? They had already fixed that "going back to first post of the thread" thing for a minute. Guess it didn't stick. Bummer. Kinda sucks. Almost afraid to hit "Post Quick Reply" and lose my place.

And Terry, almost 3 years in and I'm still just using Volt Spinners, EVODs and Vision VTs (I know, I suck, huh? I DIY and rebuild my heads, at least). Still haven't wrapped my head around fatter tubes and bottom firing buttons, but have been eyeing the Nemesis clones and i-ATTY type toppers. I love the look of hybrids, but ugh, filling while the topper's attached is another thing I can't seem to get past. My favorite flavor changes a lot, but loving Capella's Sweet Guava right now, with just a few drops of Coconut. What's YOUR favorite setup?

Edit: Hey...it didn't take me to the first page this time...

 yep. Manly enough. I love hearing about home improvements. It gives me ideas. Unfortunately I don't have all those fancy tools to get the job done. Your sinks sounds like quite a project. Pics when it's done. I thinks it's going to look great.

I wish I had taken a "before" shot. Even just with drywall repair, painting, recaulking and removing paint, caulk and years of crud from all the chrome, it's really come a long way. Just installed the new lights today:
3526412.jpg

and updated all the electrical too. Not looking like 1935 in there anymore.

Funny though. My taste for this house is actually Mid-Century Modern, so it's coming out pretty retro anyway. Retro-Modern. How's that for an oxymoron?

I get all my tools cheap on eBay or Harbor Freight as I need them. And as long as brother-in-law doesn't use them, they last me forever.

Cindy, your bathroom project sounds wonderful. I wish someone would come do mine. I don't want to nag the landlord, though, because I'd have to find a place to go the day they work on it. Only 1 bathroom here.

I don't know what brand of silicone caulk he used, but he gooped it around the faucet of my bathroom wash basin, and it's been peeling off ever since, a little bit at a time, every time I scrub the sink. I like the idea of that adhesive stuff. If it sticks well instead of peeling up, that sounds easy to apply.

I really like those lights! Very sleek.
