Sitting down, facing forward.
Rave, I did an addition some years ago on my own house. I did a similar "bump out" as a big bay. In that case I went four feet out, the maximum cantilever allowed by code. Overall it was sixteen feet wide and tapered down to about ten feet on the center face. I did have an advantage because I was simply able to use longer floor joists, which were also doubled up to provide an effective 4x10, through that area. It was a solid as a rock with no support from below.

Rave, you might suggest a few operable clerestory windows on opposite sides of the house - these would make it a whole heck of a lot easier to cool...since they're making changes...

Yep - they already have them designed in the living room with the cathedral ceiling. :D

My front deck at my last home was cantilevered in such a way. The younguns did manage to get the post holes hand dug yesterday after they'd already put in a full day's work at their jobs. My BF wrestled with the cement mixer until he gave up and used his backhoe to lift it and put it into his trailer. When he tried to start it (for a long time) he realized that the motor was never going to cooperate. So we went joyriding to appreciate the autumn foliage on a long voyage to Harbor Freight where we picked up a new motor for the thing. Today, after he gets a new belt and pulley, he'll swap the motor out so that the younguns will have a cement mixer to use. I do hope that they appreciate the time and expense that he's put into that endeavor.

The "bump out" I did was a last minute change, too, and did complicate things quite a bit. The header for it was "recessed" so that made ceiling and roof construction more complicated. I had to fool with rafter locations, both ceiling and roof, to have clearance for the recessed lighting. Had to fool with spacing for the floor joists to get the heating ducts in. Then, just rimming a 4x10 floor joist at an angle on the sides of the bow was a pain that ended up needing a chainsaw and two people to watch the blade location. It was well worth is though.

Have no idea what you guys talking about LOL but this was funny LOL.
Rave i suppose he tried to change the capacitor (if any) first and then replaced the whole motor.

Good morning to you all :)

Well, it's a condenser, not a capacitor; and the compression was bad. It's a very old motor. To fix the old motor he woulda spent more than what this one cost with a 20% off coupon.

Good morning, Voltpeeps.

It is very windy outside. It is always hard to sleep when the wind is howling!

Raven - Your BF is obviously a very nice person to go to so much trouble for the kids.

I guess I'll stay inside and bake bread and do laundry and clean the house. What else can you do on a day like today?

Another slow evening, another early good night, though I may check back before I go to bed. Here's our local famous waterfall. This was taken last fall, but I bet it looks about the same now. Last fall and this one have been disappointing, as far as fall colors go. The one before, which was the fall I was laid up with a broken arm, was gorgeous.
