Geez, Celtic, what a day! From one old car owner to another, I'm proud of you for persevering on the cheap. It ain't easy! Been there, done that.

Me, too, but I finally decided that getting a newer used car and making payments amounts to the same money I'd spend fixing the old car, and there's less hassle, so I'm done with that.

Oh celtic what a day indeed
Maybe invest on a tire repair kit (the one with the needle) and a small air compressor, will make it easier in case something happens on the road.

I would love to do that but everytime I get a hole in my tires its a big one on the sides....Never ever drive a little city car in an area with an infinite amount of bad roads.

    I want me a truck.:p

    Good morning, Voltpeeps.

I have a house to clean and some errands to run today.

I had a talk with Hubby about the garden. I told him I've been a bit depressed and I have decided that one reason is the size of the veggie garden. It's gotten out of hand. I spent hours and hours picking strawberries which were pretty small and beans. I think I'm tired of spending so much time working on that garden! My summer is over and I didn't have the time or energy to work with my little horses much. I explained to him that it just isn't all that fun anymore with the picking and prepping and blanching and freezing taking over my entire summer.

We decided to consider what is most important to us to plant so this winter, when we go through the seed catalogs, we are going to bear that in mind. The stuff I can buy that is pretty tasty from the store we will not plant.

I can buy pretty tasty frozen green beans from the store and they take forever to pick from the garden. So, maybe we will plant fillet beans only. Those beans are absolutely delicious fresh and they can't be frozen.

I also can buy delicious frozen strawberries for smoothies, so maybe we should be planting raspberries. Raspberries are expensive, one of my favorite fruits and are fairly easy to pick.

I didn't plant garden peas this year because the frozen peas from the store are pretty tasty and they are another crop that takes forever to pick and then a lot of time to shell. I was happy not to have to work so hard.

Also, maybe we need to plant less of a few things. There's no need for us to supply veggies to the neighbors!

He took the news better than I thought he would. I am so glad. I explained that I am feeling worn out and like the fun has gone out of my summer. I do want a garden but I hope we can keep it more fun sized next summer. If I were in my twenties and/or in a better climate, this giant garden would be more doable but as it is, it is a lot of work and I don't want to work quite this hard. I like having time and energy to do other things.

I think your idea to reduce the garden is a good one. Good luck restraining yourself when ordering seeds!

I'm not the problem, it is Hubby that I have to rein in. He immediately said maybe we could plant more corn. I said we absolutely do NOT need more corn. That's when I came up with planting the raspberries on the far end of the garden. I could use up a lot of space and he wouldn't have room to grow more stuff:)

Here's an update on the yellow jacket problem. Last night, the landlord and his daughter sprayed, but the wasps were back this morning. So we called the landlord. He already knew he has to take further measures. His daughter saw the wasps flying around this morning when she went out to jog and told him. So his son knows how to remove the ceiling to the porch so they can get up in there better, and they plan to do this Saturday night.

I told him about using Bounce fabric softener sheets to repel them, and he didn't know about that, but he said it makes sense, since he found out that a cube of Downy will repel the mice that were getting into his truck and had chewed a wire. I think Rave had this problem, too, and it might be useful info for her or anyone else who has had this problem.

I killed 4 wasps that were buzzing at the bedroom window this morning. I'll keep checking the windows to find them today. I don't know where they might be sneaking into the house, but obviously there's some little hole or crack somewhere.

Meanwhile, I think today I'll make banana bread again. We have some overripe bananas to use up.I want to get outside today, too, since there's sunlight out there, a rare event here.

Wow Celti - that sounds like one murderous journey. Sorry that you're having such troubles. :(

Lizzie - kudus to you for deciding to downside the garden. Life is short, and there are more fun things to do.

Sandy - the wasps are trying to get into my house too. They want a place to hole up for the winter. My yellow jackets aren't trying to get in, they just want food! The big problem out here now will be the lady bugs. These are the orangish-yellow ones that bite, and they gather in swarms in the autumn looking for a suitable place to hibernate. They end up everywhere. :p

Heard from Terry awhile ago. She's in Montana. The goal is to try to make it to Wyoming tonight, but they're operating on a sleep deficit.

My BF and I are going to do some things at my house this weekend. I think that my bathtub downstairs has a leak because I keep getting water in the guest room. Or, it could just be a problem with the water table being so high that it's seeping in between the concrete wall and the water barrier. Dunno. But, I'll re-grout the bathtub and then seal it with clear silicone after it dries thoroughly. We're also going to cut up some fallen trees for firewood and do some rerouting of surveillance camera wiring. Another thing on the agenda is to make some "apple pie". Here's the recipe:

    2 Gallons Motts Apple Juice
    12 Cinnamon sticks
    1/2 Cup of sugar
1 entire fifth of Everclear.

Bring apple juice with cinnamon sticks and sugar to a boil.
    Allow it to cool.
    Strain.
    Mix in the Everclear.
    Serve chilled.

    Then ... don't drive!!

    Have a great weekend folks!!

    Hi rave :)

I mixed my red strobe composition, made some cut stars with it and now waiting for them to dry, might be a pain since strontium nitrate is hygroscopic and likes water in the atmosphere, i might have to put it in a zip lock bag with dessicant to take all the moisture out and then test the stars and keep videos.

Rainy all day here with very high winds, thunders etc. Will continue for another 2-3-4-5 days.

Hope you all have a nice weekend. :)

I think you re planning a major "Welcome to your new home." party. We will only be able to party in the party room. :glare: Maybe we can post some gif's of ourselves, and delete them soon after.

haha Rave, I used to make this one:

    Hot Apple Pie Shots

Heat 3/4 cup of apple cider till steamy hot.
Stir in 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract, a pinch of cinnamon, and 1/4 cup Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum.
Pour into shot glasses 3/4 of the way full.
Top with sweetened whipped cream and dust with cinnamon.
    Serve immediately. Makes 5-6 shots.

    Sitting down, facing forward.
I slept late today, too. 8:30 and I'm stiff from too much rack time, LOL.

Lizzie, I'm with you on the garden. Yeah it's fun and satisfying to have grown your own tasty, fresh, veggies but it is a lot of work to pick, blanch and pack all the excess. Our cucumbers are "famous" with my wife's co-workers but we're not growing them to give away, really. Peas and beans are a pain, but worth the effort since it's only the two of us. Canning tomatoes is a major project between blanching, peeling, cleaning, cooking and then finally canning them. I do want to look into a stewed tomato recipe for next year though, we both like commercial stewed tomatoes and that might be a way to use some of the excess tomato crop. The thing I really hate is keeping the weeds down, it's a never ending task.

Make sure you post photos/videos of your pyrotechnic efforts, Tritium.
