Yesterday felt like summer, the 50 degrees was amazing, and really more seasonable for here this time of year. It was 32 earlier and has dropped to 27. The wind is back, again, and it's supposed to get colder for the rest of the day. When Mrs. Awsum walked Bo at last night, she said our street was solid ice. I think we may be running low on salt here, too. Given that the roads have been white with salt, almost hiding the center lines, for weeks, that wouldn't be surprising.

I've been getting mailers from Duluth Trading and have always looked at their "fire hose" pants. I got a pair for my birthday. They are really great and well worth the price. The material is what a fire hose is made from, tough, but fairly smooth and soft. They are built like a tank and very comfortable to work in, enough room to stretch without pinching or binding. If you do any kind of hard work, inside or out, try a pair. Oh yeah, they have enough pockets to carry a whole tool set as well and everything is double stitched and riveted.

I bought a pair of these after trying on Rave's future daughter-in-law's. They fit perfect and were very comfortable. She bought the men's pants because like me she has slender hips. So I did too. They've been great working out in my woods. They don't snag on those nasty sticker bushes like my denim's did. I think they are having a free shipping sale on purchase's of $50 or more. You want to get in on that because their shipping prices are through the roof.

I really like these, way better than jeans and I'm betting they'll outlast Wranglers or Levis by at least a two to one factor. There's even a hidden pocket, inside, with a Velcro closure. They look nice enough for casual wear as well. Treat yourself and hubby, Lizzie.

Rave's kids say they come with a lifetime guarantee. I'm not positive about that but they said they've sent them back for new ones when their's wore out. Those 2 front pockets are so deep I almost can't reach the bottom.

Yeah, the front pockets are very deep and I have trouble finding the bottom, too! The patch pockets on the thighs are the same way and the only way you'd get anything out of the bottom of them is to pull your leg up high enough and look like a stork!

Whenever I see "lifetime warranty" I always wonder whose life?

Hey, Celt, how are you making out with the weather?

What's happening, Tritium? Keep us posted, huh!

Uncle, I assume (and you know what that can do) that it warmed back up down your way.

Our driveway is a virtual skating rink. Ice from one end to the other. Bo doesn't even want to walk on it and he has "four wheel drive". I can manage, but it can be dicey. I put some sodium chloride out and it looks like I didn't do anything. It is kind of hollow and cracks as it's walked on, but it's still a pain. We had bright sun for most of the afternoon and that didn't help either.

Bad weather still, Awsum. That's no good.

Well, we did our taxes.

Cleaned out the horse pen. Cleaned the water bucket since the wind had blown a lot of dust and such into the bucket.

Got the hedge trimmer running and did some hedge trimming.

We resolved our issues on exactly where to place the new rabbit thwarting chicken wire. We got several T-posts in but we have plenty left to do for that project.

Of course, that means I have to take out some greasewood, purple smoke bushes and large clumps of rice grass. I got a start on that.

All this work means we have plenty of grass and hedge trimmings and native shrubbery to burn in the veggie garden section of the yard. Maybe next weekend.

It was cold and windy most of the day so we took a long nap and will hang out for the rest of the night:)

I've been at a Flower and Garden / Craft Show over the weekend and just now finding the time to catch up with this thread.

Rave, clonk him on the head and drag him to the hospital. Deep puncture wounds are nothing to shrug away.

We have farrier come by every couple months to do our horse's hooves. I used to be able, but my back -ouch- no longer allows me to.

The weather here has not been wet, but it has been cold! We're having to break the water 2 and three times a day.

I went on a coil building binge. I've built dual parralel coils, single coils, rebuilt Aspire heads and Kanger heads - the small ones, not the Subtank heads... Does anyone know if I could rebuild SI cartos or nano clearos?

Someone on a horse group I belong to sent this link: LIFE - Google Books

She was telling us to look at the article on the clairvoyant horse on p. 20, but I found the whole magazine fascinating and looked through it all. Lizzie, later on, there's an article on minis, too. And the rest of you may enjoy a trip down memory lane. So many ads for smokes and alcohol! I never remembered them being so numerous.

Shawn, my wife uses the nano and there's no way to rebuild them that I can develop. I do rebuild CE3s but have stopped doing things like Protanks, T3s and such now that I'm on the RTA bandwagon. Much more vapor and flavor and way easier to work with. The downside is that all that vapor and flavor means more liquid gets used, but since I DIY that's no biggie either. In fact I've got to list a bunch of Apsire and Kanger stuff I stockpiled and no longer use.

Rave, if he refuses to get a tetanus shot, I guess the only thing you can do is look for symptoms and rush him to the hospital if he shows any signs. See Tetanus Symptoms - Diseases and Conditions - Mayo Clinic for symptoms. It's so silly to take the risk when there's a shot available!

I agree. It's silly. Why do young folk think that they are immortal?! Turns out that he just doesn't like shots. So, I gave my son a pride-killer and told him, "You know - I have to give myself a shot every morning. I don't like it either, but it's the smart thing to do." Last I heard, they were going into town for something tonight and were going to stop and get him a shot. They didn't go. :(

I've always wanted a pair of those Duluth fire hose pants. I need to buy a pair for my birthday. They have girl work clothes, too. Kind of cool.

Ah yes - the wonders of Duluth fire hose pants. The younguns live in them. When they wear out, they send 'em back for a new pair. There's no argument. They just get a fresh pair in the mail. The women's fire hose pants are different from the men's. The pockets aren't as many or as deep. That's why my son's fiance opts for the men's. The men's are just better. Go figure.

It's been colder than hedoublehockeysticks here too. This morning it was -4 when I got up. It's almost -3 already tonight. I am sooo done with winter. :glare:

I've been woodworking all day again today. I built and sanded the box to hold up my refill bottles in the center of my lazy Susan Leo holder. Also laminated a couple of pieces of wood together for a mod holder for my studio downstairs. After all - if I'm going to paint soon, then I'll need something to replace the ashtray that's down there now. Man! It has been a long time since I've painted. Now that I have good glasses, there are only a couple more things to do, and then I'll be ready. I'm kinda scared ...

Better yet - I hit him below the belt by implying that he wasn't as brave as his mother. See my post above. I know. It was dirty pool. But, a mother's gotta do what a mother's gotta do. He still hasn't gone yet though.

I mean, c'mon. The guy gets shot twice in one day by a nail gun, and he's afraid of a syringe?

Tell me more about these fire hose pants. They sound wonderful from what you all say, and I looked at the site and they have good reviews. One negative thing I read said they shrank when washed. No one else complained about that. What's your experience about that or anything else? How warm or cool are they compared to blue jeans?

A lifetime guarantee sounds too good to be true. Rave, do they really just replace worn-out pants for free? How many replacements? Where's the catch?

I was wondering if I should recommend them to Bill. He wears blue jeans, and the first thing to wear out is usually a pocket where he keeps his change. You know how jeans pockets are -- they're made of other material which is much more delicate than the denim. I saw the basic pants in brown, but another style had black. I doubt he'd go for brown pants, but he would wear the black ones, I think.

So, everyone who had experience with them, let me know what you think.

I use the CE3s on the cig-a-likes. Rebuilt with rayon wick they are very hard to beat and super easy to maintain. Just a dry burn and re-wick with more rayon. I know SI discontinued the CE3 but I thin they still have some available and a a reduced price, at least the last time I looked. If they don't and you want to try them out, let me know, I have tons of them.

The catch is: They don't figure that most folks would ever be able to destroy them because the pants are so tough. They don't know these younguns. They are both utilities locators and go through all manner of landscape every day, all day. They can't be stopped by mere thorns. Plus, they are building their own home from the ground up. In a forest. They are rough on pants! And boots! They've returned both repeatedly, no questions asked.

The young folks have never complained about shrinkage. Not once. As far as warmth goes: I've heard no complaints. They also carry flannel lined, but they are not the same "fire hose" fabric.

What about these? DuluthFlex Fire Hose 5-pocket Canvas Jeans - Duluth Trading They say "fire hose" so I think they must be that material, right? That's what I'm thinking Bill might try.
